vega's interesting because he doesn't represent a real life fighter type. he's vaguely based on bullfighters which is where the blades and the tight pants and the jumping around comes from but he's mostly this scary imaginary euro-ninja executioner assassin guy who wants to be the pretty jason or something. him and voldo exist as this purely conjectural continuum of martial artists born from game designers' imaginations about there being these scary heavily bejeweled killers from spain.
i'm just saying i've never seen anyone like this on tv. sumos, karate guys, army guys, kung fu guys, boxers, wrestlers, all those you see, vega was one of the first totally made up street fighters. what if they really turned out guys like this? i don't know what the point would be, he wouldn't qualify for ring fights with that equipment but he's certainly underequipped for conventional war. i guess you could see him as kind of a tribute to medieval fighting styles.
