Late comment. Thinking of getting the 40th anniversary reissue and checked out about the gappy helmet thing.. looking at the helmet props, on RPF and starwarshelmets, it's actually gappy as well for the ESB.. i think it's due to the less "sharp" widow's peak.

The Return of the Jedi is far better in so many ways. The down side is that this came out after the Return of the Jedi figure so they should have been able to bring out a better figure. Here is what I see since I have both. The Empire figure has shoulder armor that is very very stiff makes posing very hard, the end portions of the shoulder armor are held on with a thick tape underneath that does not want to flex at all. while the ROTJ figure had strips of fabric that allow for mobility. The cape on the empire figure has a chain that keeps ending up around Vaders neck while the ROTJ figure has a small catch on the chest armor that keeps it where it is supposed to be. Changing the arm out for the light up light saber requires near total dismantling of the figure and the light saber is powered by a few small watch batteries, batteries that will discharge whether you use them or not. Each of the belt boxes on the Empire figure come off and require several small batteries each, so does the chest box. The stand uses AAA batteries. All in all you need three different kinds of batteries to make this figure work. The leg armor come off way to easy on the empire figure and the armor looks much better on the ROTJ figure. Seriously, this figure really angers me because I paid good money for it and it is truly sub par for them.
Sorry mate I was very disappointed with my figure. My helmet keeps falling off and catapulting across the room. Screws were impossible to remove even with precision screwdriver set. I don’t have any real complaints because I’ve had the previous figures and know what’s involved. Belt boxes are a bit fiddle but the base is super easy and is AAA
For people who don't know anything about the correct helmet design, they would think it's incorrect here, however. Its not lol, it is a perfect replica.
Damn you didn't do articulation at all. 😖 The main reason i really wanted to see it was the following. I dont like the removable helmet if it makes it so when you articulate the head you have to take off the helmet to turn the head first bc what i imagine to happen is the helmet twists when you grab ahold of the helmet to rotate it. And like you said, the gappiness is not as accurate as the ANH. The figure i think looks most appropriate is the 2 pack with Grand Moff Tarkin it seems to have the good gloves, 2 lightsaber options, and the secured helmet. HOWEVER, ive seem reviews of this figure where the guy just pressed down on the helmet til it made a POP noise and brought the lid down farther but he was another one that didn't do articulation. Ugh. Channels doing great "Lord Justin" 😁
They definitely went backwards with the helmet...the only difference should be the placement of the dome and the lack of widows peak, and other than a shinier texture the sculpt is essentially SUPPOSED to be the same. In fact the reveal helmet is made from the base helmet so there’s no reason the sculpt should differ from the first version which was done rather accurately. Now the mouth is too big and not deep enough neatest the top. Also the billets (tusks) are placed too low adding to the size of the mouth. The neck shouldn’t be any shorter than the original either...
From the looks of this, the helmet only sits slightly higher than how it was portrayed in the film, overall, to me the best darth vader helms from the films is still ANH, that scowl in ANH is the deepest one, overall my RO still is my favourite, i may get this guy, but not a priority.
