Been to Fuji now back to OM-1. I like the 4x3 format. Olympus /OM system is much more enjoyable to me. Live ND, Starry night AF, IS, etc feature come handy. I never got into the film simulations. I tried, but they became a distraction. All the best with your Fuji. You have an awesome eye for composition so no matter what camera you will take great photos. You turned me onto Olympus a few years back. Every time I picked up my Olympus I seem to have more fun with it than with my XT-3.
I've a Panasonic Lumix GX9 It's has that Rangefinder style and both the EVF and back screen articulate. It also has IBIS and would accommodate all of your mf3 lenses I love it and make no apologies for 'Chimping' 🤣📷👍
Thank you for the video. I've been shooting with Fuji for over six years now and have owned an X-Pro 2 for about two years (which, by the way, is now available for little money). For my needs as an amateur, the Fuji cameras are perfect. Small and light and they offer everything I need. By the way, I have made the experience that the lenses of the F2.0 series often work better in some respects than the larger and heavier lenses of the F1.4 series. The F2s were almost always superior in terms of accuracy and speed of autofocus. But of course these were also the lenses of a few years ago. The current ones may be better. In any case, after some trial and error, I stuck with the F2 lenses and have not regretted it.
I love your frankness and honesty. It has caused me to subscribe and am sure I will not be disappointed. Like yourself, I have used film in 35 mm, medium format, and then digital, with Oly, then Nikon, and then to Fuji where I have owned every X100 variant made, now of course, the X100V. With it’s 23mm F2 lens, images are very sharp, it can focus very very close, and I get a silent shutter. All of this is in a smaller camera than the X-Pro series, which i played with. Enjoy your X-Pro 1. 16mp is more than enough.
The grass is greener, in my opinion anyway. I was an Olympus user and then I bought an X-T3 and wow. I have never looked back or looked back in envi at the new OM System releases. Very very happy with my purchase. I hope your new to you Fuji brings you as much joy as mine does to me.
Yes I agree. My Pen F broke, and I switched to em-1 II, and I miss that pen f. I wish new Olympus brand could create one again. Oh Pen F with that 15mm!
Thanks for the excellent video. As an ancient amateur photographer, I used Nikon SLR's almost exclusively from 1971 until 2004. There was a fair mix of Leica M's, a little Hasselblad and Rolleiflex in there as well but F2 through F4 then finally a D70. After working up to a D300, I moved to Canon for a short bit. But in 2018, I picked up my first Fujifilm digital. What a pleasure it was to use! I currently shoot with an X-Pro2 and an X-T3. I get an immense amount of pleasure using them mostly because of the user interface but also because of the image quality. I will be very curious to see what happens to the X-T line and the X-Pro lines in the next generation. It is a very exciting time to be taking photographs!
Just this week sold my Olympus set up, I'd lost interest in photography over the last couple of years for many reasons. Got a secondhand Sony RX100v love it. Got my mojo back for photography again as I can take it out with me all the time because of the size plus it ticks all my boxes for want I want out of a camera now. Guess we all benefit from a change of gear😊
I was an Olympus user for many years, EM-1, EM-2 and Pen F and a LUMIX -GF9. I love rangefinder style and loved my Pen F. Unfortunately, it was starting to limit my low light theatre work as I was waiting for a mark ii. When Olympus got sold I jumped ship to Fuji. Originally, I was going to get an X100V but then the X-E4 came out and I bought that. I love it. I also bought a used X70 and love that too. I’m still sorting out best prime lens choice. On my Pen F, I shot with the Leica/Panasonic 15mm 1.7 and on my X-4 I’m using the new 27mm 2.8 and the older 18mm f2. I was at the Fujikina in NY yesterday and was loaned an X-H2s with 18-120 both were amazing but not Rangefinder style. I was also able to try every lens they make on my X-E4 and will now have to make a decision of which prime to ad. The transition from Olympus to Fuji has not been with out a learning curve but the technology, low light ability and image quality have eased the transition. Good luck with you experiment.
The Fuji cameras are wonderful as are Olympus/Panasonic cameras. I think the long term support and updates for Fuji are second to none. If your a lightroom/photoshop user though then the Olympus is a better choice due to the worming effect when sharpening with Fuji cameras. Capture One is probably the best to edit raws with fuji cameras. I think getting an Xpro1 to dip into the Fuji system is a very wise choice. The only real downsides of the xpro 1 are the slow auto focus and no diopter. Other than them it's a wonderful camera.
I went from MFT (specifically last MFT camera I had was a GX80) to a Fuji XE3 + 23mm f2 - absolutely awesome and truly feels like my true EDC camera. Don't miss my MFT gear at all even though it was technically more advanced.
The Leica Q2 has an EVF and a prime lens. Super high resolution that allows significant cropping whether using the convenient in-camera facility or in post production. It’s rather addictive. Not cheap but price an equivalent Leica detachable lens and you’ll find that the Q2’s body is virtually free in comparison.
Fuji cameras are great…I did own a XPro1 years ago and loved it. I now have my older X-T2 converted to IR (720nm), a X100V and a GFX 50Sii. If you want to take your Fuji (rangefinder feeling type) experience to the next level, try (rent) the older GFX 50R…you may fall in love with it ! I did own one and had a great time with it. Enjoy your videos… Cheers..
Congratulations! Fuji is a great system. A whole new world to get familiar with. The kit lenses 18-55/2.8-4 and 55-200/3.5-4.8 are worth checking out: match the Panasonic 12-35/2.8 and 35-100/2.8 in image quality and are compact. What is that filter holder you used at 5:08? Thanks.
Congratulations on your new EDC camera. I am in the Fuji eco system and love it. As several posters suggest, the XPRO1 is slow. It is cheap but many Fuji shooters like the XPRO 2 more than the 3. Good choice with the
Great to see you have [possibly] migrated to Fuji - a great retro shooting experience. I'm surprised you didn't mention the switchable hybrid evf/ovf. I have an X-pro2 and it corrects many of the more dated specs of the X-Pro1. Its brilliant paired with the 23/f2 or 18/f2 - lean mean street machine. Also - so many thanks for posting locations - they look brilliant. Keep up the good work.
If your pictures are great it is for sure not the merit of the camera. You have proven time and again that you can get great results with any camera. Hope you like your rangefinder camera. (I don't like them, don't like EVFs and will stick to DSLRs, but luckily we are free to choose!)
23f2 lens. The XPRO is, in my mind, a street shooting machine. A major shortcoming of the XPROs vs the pen 5 are the size and weight. The XPRO is larger than your Olympus. The body and lens is heavier than your Olympus. Important considerations for an EDC camera. Two thoughts. 1) buy another Olympus. You’ve worked with them for a decade. You probably have the muscle memory down 2) Anathema- try a Panasonic. I LOVE my GX85. Or try the GX9. You can use your m43 glass you already have. These are small and light machine. Much cheaper than Fuji. They have IBIS and the video is good even if they don’t have an audio in jack. Good hunting. Mask On Nurse Marty
I use both Fuji X and Olympus. Each has its applications. What I have found with Fuji is that the APS-C is the sweet spot for me, but the Olympus colors and sharpness are more pleasing to me. I owned many Fuji X cameras, including the X-Pro 1. I only own the Olympus Pen F. Like I said, both are great for different reasons. i"ve also used the frustration Sigma DP Merrill series cameras. If I were to print large, I would print from the Sigma DP Merrill series as they come out the best at for huge prints out of all those.
Agree with your conclusions, I had the xpro1, gorgeous sensor, atrocious af, no diopter, xpro2 was good but again af was not up to Olympus. Enjoy the xpro1 and thanks for your hard work. Ps I'm sticking with Olympus for the timebeing
The XE-1 has the same sensor as the XPro-1, but not most of the other drawbacks. After trying the XE-1 for a year, I sold it and bought another Pen-F. 🙂
Have fun with Fuji! I think the back screen issue with your hire Camera is an anomaly. I tried the XPro3 but I couldn’t live with the back display. I look at it this way, I will make the decision whether I want to chimp, or not. I don’t need a camera company calling my shots! And I agree with you about no image stabilisation… Olympus rules? Sean
Right up my street thoroughly enjoyed the vid. As an Oly user ive toyed with the idea of fuji, just aint took the plunge yet. I keep reminding myself of the grief with fleebay.
Have a look at mpb have used them for years for selling and buying from. Gave me a good price for my Olympus set up only last week and have just bought a Sony RX100v from them. Suits what I want out of a camera at this time.
Left Nikon full frame including the D750/D850 for Fujifilm 10 years ago…..never looked back and the lowlight and dynamic range are shockingly close to the superb full frame Nikon’s ! Think you’ll get the Fuji bug ;)
Nice review craig I’m along time X100 series user love it but recently gave my F to my old dad in Cas’ so agonised for ages about the Xpro 3 as a replacement I quite fancied the screen but heard a fair few reports of faulty screens also it’s still quite pricey for an older camera anyway dropped on a used XP2 with 23mm f2 and a few bits n bibs for a good price. After 6 or so weeks of use have to say I’m happy with my choice. Love the results from it 📷❤️
I used a X-pro1 for two years and it’s one big weakness is the refresh rate of the EVF. So I used the Optical VF a lot. The X-Pro2’s EVF is a big improvement and now I rarely use the Optical VF. It’s also why I now use the X-E4.
" Hi Craig, good vid, cant waite to see what you end up using full time! I'm still using my Canon 5d3 and 17-40, last month I picked up a Fuji xe2 rangefinder, and use it with zeiss flektogon 35mm 2.4(lens is heavier than the camera🙂, and I've found it great fun to use, sort of a street machine. I shoot mostly raw, but you can have fun using the simulations if you like that! The Leica will have to wait.......cheers, Kev."
It’s always worth trying out different brands. I enjoy the learning experience. Keeps my brain exercised. I don’t think your pictures will be of better quality but Fuji colours are well up there with Olympus. One thing that puzzles me though, and it’s not about the kit, and that is whether the factory seen early on is a sugar factory?
I have an X-T10. AEL and AFL are either side of that wheel. The Q button replaces your playback button, mine's top left near delete. The tilty screen pulls out from the bottom (but not easily, there's nowhere to grip it). There is an express version of Capture One for this camera. Fujifilm and Panasonic have both had loaner programs for some of their cameras in UK. Not their lighter cameras AFAIK.
I'm looking forward to the X-Pro3 coming down in price now that the fifth-gen Fujis are here. I'm especially interested in trying the X-mount Voigtlaender lenses with it - as they are built like classic metal rangefinder lenses, yet they transfer the framing to the the X-Pro3 hybrid VF. -- I'd love to see your impressions (I'm interested in the demi-macro VX35mmF2, but they also have VX23 and 35 F1.2s) I migght dust off my X-Pro1, thanks! P.S. Thanks for the dark intertitles!
You never cease to amaze me; and thanks for that. I, too, think about a brand switch from time to time, just like your comments in today's VLOG. But, unlike your reasoning to switch (OM -1 System longevity, unknown new ownership and future quality), I had been thinking about a switch to Fuji simply because I want to. As such, I question your real reasoning too... You, like me and hosts of others camera users (and your followers), buy. trade and operate USED or OLDER cameras and super quality lenses from Olympus... I really don't care at this point or anywhere in the near future about the OM-1 future products and quality... there is plenty of great Olympus gear already out there. I'm betting the real reason you are deciding to switch brands is not because of all the hub-bub of new ownership but simply because you just want to do it. That's really OK. Of course, I am telling that to my self over and over again, too. Thanks for continuing to provide great RUclips content.
I've borrowed X Pro 1 and X Pro 3 in the last couple of years. Both damn good cameras in my view- though I am a vintage-orientated person so they might not be for everyone. I'm technically a Sony shooter, I suppose. But I do like the Fujis.
I edit over 4,000 wedding images a week. As much as I like Fuji, the Fuji files do not hold up well when they are pushed. It does not handle highlights well.
I always look forward to seeing your videos and this is another entertaining one. I might be wrong about this but I suspect that an updated PenF Pro with a new range of 1.4 primes, to sit along side the existing 12/17/25/ lenses would be the solution. Was that OMD 20mm f1.4 Pro really that disappointing? I kind of think had it met your expectations the “itch” would have been satisfied?
I've always wanted to try Fuji X because of the layout and great lenses - somehow without a big investment . . . I am heavily vested in Nikon , so I guess Fuji X is always going to be my "like -a" camera .
I agree, IBIS is a must these days and I didn't buy the X-Pro series cameras because of the lack of IBIS. I believe it will make the camera thicker to accommodate the IBIS so Fuji decided not to incorporate it.
I had looked at the FujiFilm XPro cameras but in the end I bought another Canon P. I now have 2 of them and 35, 50, 85, 100 & 135mm lenses. The lenses are all Canon LTM and just little jewels and work magnificently. I understand the appeal of the Leica and even though they are beautifully made and a joy to use for me anyway they just an overpriced name rather than a great camera system. I know let the hate begin but really at the end of the day can you really tell which camera took which image if I handed you a bunch of prints. No of course you can't. So I'll stay with my system of Canon LTM's and use the money I save to travel. Oh and I did end up with a FujiFilm GFX 50SII with an adapter that allows me to use my Hasselblad V series lenses on it.
Oh boy, the humor! It keep and keep going in without a break 😂 That being said, when I saw the bw from RAW, "yeah, definitely Craig's". Plus I realise that you were not using 1:1 like usual, is that because too much crop for apsc 3:2 format? Have fun with your new EDC!
I always enjoy your content. I contemplated switching from Olympus to Fuji many times, but I can’t really get used to the 3:2 aspect ratio especially in portrait orientation. I have the same gripe with the GR III (the II still had a 4:3 mode) and the GR III doesn’t even have a 6x4 grid that would be fairly usable for 5:4 compositions. I don’t understand why Fuji that support 4:3, 3:2, 5:4, 6:7, 1:1, 16:9, & 65:24 in their GFX cameras limit themselves to 3:2, 1:1 & 16:9 on APSC? Preserving megapixels can’t be the answer since that there should be a 1:1 mode. Did you miss the 4:3 aspect ratio? Most likely not, since you didn’t crop any of your images except to square format. Frank
I’ve had, and still have, an xpro1 since release. A couple of years ago I ‘upgraded’ to an xt3 because I needed a diopter and there wasn’t a single one available…what a disappointment. Yes it’s faster, sharper etc. but the images from the xpro1 are somehow nicer to my taste. Speed wise, the f2 lenses do focus well and the 50-140 also. The rest are just workable if you need them (I haven’t tried the 16mm or any other zooms). The original 35mm 1.4 is a great combo for portraits, very flattering and I’d have no qualms shooting it until the end of days. I must say though the optical viewfinder isn’t great and it is wrong to compare to Leica (actual rangefinders). I still have a film Leica and even with my ageing eyesight, I don’t need glasses to focus as the optical system of the rangefinder works regardless of whether you can see sharpness or not
I like Fuji retailers. Once Fuji Poland lend me incredible XF200mmf2 lens with 1.4TC for wildlife photoshoot. Just like that. Have You tried X-E series from Fuji?
Have you tried a squirt of contact cleaner in the wheel slots on the ep, if it's not weather sealed it probably means that the contacts are just mucky.
I changed from Canon to Fujifilm some years ago now and never looked back! I own an XH-1 and an Xpro-2, both giving me lovely filmic looking photos straight form camera (mostly). My XH-1 has IBIS built in as do the XT-3 and 4. But honestly its a small point, I love my Xpro-2 and rarely need to use image stablisation, and with adaptors I use itw ith my film Olympus OM lens'
I am in a very same boat as you. I'm still waiting for Pen F II. Shooting now a used Fujifilm X-S10 but oh man, that camera is boring. It might be Panasonic who comes with GX-10 first. We might see.
Been using the Xpro 2 for weddings for the last 5 years. The buffer is a bit slow sometimes, but it’s a great discrete camera. The Xpro line are built like tanks and are a great EDC camera
I keep trying to convince myself to sell my X-Pro2, as I mostly use my X100V and X-T4; but when I do use the X-Pro2, I really enjoy both the experience and the results.

I used a X-pro1 for two years and it’s one big weakness is the refresh rate of the EVF. So I used the Optical VF a lot. The X-Pro2’s EVF is a big improvement and now I rarely use the Optical VF. It’s also why I now use the X-E4.
Yes, it's pretty much optical only on my XPro1.
The standard Fuji loan program is only for 2 days. I needed 2 weeks!
Love your videos Craig. What about the X100V and X-S10?
I'm looking forward to the X-Pro3 coming down in price now that the fifth-gen Fujis are here.
I'm especially interested in trying the X-mount Voigtlaender lenses with it - as they are built like classic metal rangefinder lenses, yet they transfer the framing to the the X-Pro3 hybrid VF. -- I'd love to see your impressions (I'm interested in the demi-macro VX35mmF2, but they also have VX23 and 35 F1.2s)
I migght dust off my X-Pro1, thanks!
P.S. Thanks for the dark intertitles!
Great video, I still love my Olympus gear, but I keep thinking I would like to dip my toes in Fujifilm
I've always wanted to try Fujifilm, however I might have well gone for full frame if I chose that route.
If they can get IBIS in a Pen-F, there must be room in a Xpro!
I still use the original x100 with 12 megapixel. I think it's the best camera when it comes to color.
You can try to fix the dials with some lubricant. Try to a video about it. Did fixed a used D3.
I’ll give it a go 👍

It keep and keep going in without a break 😂
That being said, when I saw the bw from RAW, "yeah, definitely Craig's". Plus I realise that you were not using 1:1 like usual, is that because too much crop for apsc 3:2 format?
Have fun with your new EDC!
Even Pentax have IBIS. and have done since the original K3.
Frank
If I'm given 3:2, I try my best to use 3:2! I still cropped many of my results to square though.
Excellent video, images and thoughts. Too bad, I didn’t recognize the “new” cameras on the Insta Posts 😉🙄😏
I know, i should have made it more obvious!!
Here's a phrase for you: It's not the camera, it's the photographer, and your photos prove the point.
I still have a film Leica and even with my ageing eyesight, I don’t need glasses to focus as the optical system of the rangefinder works regardless of whether you can see sharpness or not
I do have a +1 diopter that I bought for my Xpro1.
I like Fuji retailers. Once Fuji Poland lend me incredible XF200mmf2 lens with 1.4TC for wildlife photoshoot. Just like that.
Have You tried X-E series from Fuji?
X-e still no IBIS 😢
Have you tried a squirt of contact cleaner in the wheel slots on the ep, if it's not weather sealed it probably means that the contacts are just mucky.
Yes that’s worth a try 👍
I changed from Canon to Fujifilm some years ago now and never looked back! I own an XH-1 and an Xpro-2, both giving me lovely filmic looking photos straight form camera (mostly). My XH-1 has IBIS built in as do the XT-3 and 4. But honestly its a small point, I love my Xpro-2 and rarely need to use image stablisation, and with adaptors I use itw ith my film Olympus OM lens'
The x-t3 doesn’t have IBIS
@@FotosyMas. maybe the XT-4 does then iirc.
Great camera. XE1 is better faster smaller newer and has a bounce flash same great xtrans sensor. I got rid of my xpro1 for it
Since Fuji sent you the Xpro 3 I am sure, that they will read this: please, Fuji, the X100V monitor and IBIS on the Xpro4!
The Xpro line are built like tanks and are a great EDC camera
haha i totally agree bro!
I think you take good images even with a potato.
Apart from IBIS, you need the X100V
I still think PEN F is better!
Having owned all three xpro models I stuck with the xpro-2…….
great
I already made a soft in like 3 hours its that hard
I keep trying to convince myself to sell my X-Pro2, as I mostly use my X100V and X-T4; but when I do use the X-Pro2, I really enjoy both the experience and the results.
a HUGE step in the right direction Craig - GO FUJI!
Fuji XT4 might have been a better choice
Can't believe they don't know who you are Greg(winkwink)
You're right! They probably know Greg Roberts, but Craig....who's that?!
Fuji for the win!
1. Get a camera
2. Learn how to use the camera
3. Take pictures
'nuff said!
Photographer just for someone who know how to editing that’ll
You are such a great photographer. You should dump those tiny crop loser sensors and jump to full frame. Unleash your capabilities.
If your bank account permits Just buy a Leica man. Life is too short.
You haven’t met my wife have you?!
Will be even shorter your life 😂
