  • In this video we take a look at PulseEffect the advanced audio manipulation tool for Linux. You can add effects like compression, deesser, bass boosting and more with this tool. There are profiles you can create and use from the community including the profile that I created for (an attempt) at a spatial sound for FPS gaming.

PulseEffect and I have been going steady for... well I don't know, since audio and video became a common thing on computers. At Least since youtube. And since different loudness from different sources became a unbearable problem.
Thousands and thousands of videos watched with sound are carefully processed by my faithful companion. No more manual volume adjustment for every media played.
Enhanced sound on music. Even volume. Talk only sources, even bad ones, are now a bliss to listen to.
PulseEffect can handle it all. Music, talk, movies.
Never a new setup without PulseEffect anymore.
In fact, PulseEffect should be implemented in every distro - out of the box. It is simply that good.

All those settings are abhorrent xd
There is not a perfect eq. Equalizer is for equalizing frequency response of your speakers in your specific room. If you change speakers or room they're standing in you need to use different equalizer settings hell if you move your speakers or furniture in your room you need a different eq setting. Most of those plugins are making your sound worse, not better unless they are used for a very specific application circumstance and method they were created for. And finally using auto gain in the way u are is clipping your sound producing distortion. That's what the flashing icon next to "applications" is telling you.
I use pulse effects for pure equalizing almost exclusively, and it's a very powerful semi professional tool that you should not touch (unless your messing around to learn whats what) if u don't have at least an inkling of what does what, how, and what should it be used for.

Thanks DASGeek for making a video about this, I didn't know it yet! This is really useful for all kinds of quick audio manipulations, no need to dive into the command line to do these any more. And the spectrum display will make for a nice visualization in OBS. ;-)

Great software for local audio menagement.
But what about routing? Can it do that, or are there apps that'll allow me to do that using PulseEfects?

You have Catia (part of cadence) and qjackctl for Jack. If you use pipewire, then you have helvum and qpwgraph including those.
