❓ What navigation do YOU use when driving Uber, Lyft, DoorDash or others? Do you use the in app navigation or 3rd party navigation apps like Apple maps, Google maps or Waze? Why? Let us know 👇
With Uber Google maps but lyft waze I have trouble with Google maps standalone with lyft tells me wrong way but waze no trouble also I use android phone
I use and like Apple Maps driving Doordash. I would love to use it for Lyft, but it’s my understanding that Lyft doesn’t allow it. I like Apple Maps because it tells you what side of street the house is on, it tells you specifically where to turn like “not this light but the next one” or “the house is on the right side”. Whereas what I’m using now (not Apple Maps), doesn’t tell me what side of street the house is on, nor is it specific about turns. It may say “in 1,000 feet, turn left on x street”. Then I have to guess about the 1,000 feet and about the street especially when it’s night time or the street sign is faded, missing or too small to read. At the last second, it may tell me to “turn here”. This can be a problem in heavy traffic.
I’ve been working food delivery on Uber Eats for 3 years now. I have Google Maps as my default navigation app within the Uber app. I like Google Maps for all the features you’ve mentioned. Especially the one touch OVERVIEW and EXIT feature. Since Uber partnered with the Beans app last year, I’ve noticed the in-app navigation is more accurate with respect to the drop off location. It doesn’t matter if it’s a single family residence, quad unit or apartment building unit, the Uber in-app navigation is very reliable now. So I will use Google Maps until I’m around 1,000 feet from the drop off then I’ll tap EXIT and toggle to the Uber app for better guidance to the drop off location. This method of delivery navigation has been working well for me with Uber Eats.
Absolutely agree with you after driving for Uber over 6 and half years my primary GPS navigation app is still Google maps . I still have Waze on my phone for backup purposes only. Plus, for enhanced GPS accuracy I use Dual external GPS receiver connected to phone via Bluetooth that kept accuracy down to 12.4 feet range.
Hi Sergey, I’m very curious on what external GPS devices that your using that are connected though your phone? Thanks for the help. I’ve been a taxi operator for ten years & never a gig driver. Taxi drivers can drive there own routes without our company telling us what routes to drive. Unless we have a passenger give us there favorite route which usually cost them more 😂🤣Thanks for your Help
I used the Uber app. It just seems more convenient I don't have to switch in and out of the app and I haven't had many problems except I would like to avoid tolls and occasionally I could tell the route is not the greatest and then I will look at Google maps for help. You got me thinking maybe that extra button push will be worth it
I like the feel of Apple Maps the best. Especially when it says stuff like 'go through the next stop sign and then make the 1st right' vs Google's 'in 1200 feet turn right'. The one complaint that I have is that when I tell Uber to navigate with a different GPS, it sends a pin with Lat and Long.... I've had that be wrong almost as many times as it's right. I find myself having to go back and type in the address or business name.
Sure Waze has its issues, but I do prefer it over Google maps. Apple can bite me... They will never be given a shot, but I also don't buy crapple phones. Joe, whatever $, time/other advantages you've gained having navigation the way you like it... You've lost in the cost of the crapple phone and being locked into their ecosystem... MAYBE it's a wash in the end, but if it helps with your sanity? So be it! Now, for my Lyft nav story... I recall when Lyft first brought their nav in app (KC MARKET) many moons ago, I decided to try it on AP pickup...MISTAKE! Rider said she was going to X hotel and I trusted the nav MISTAKE! It took us about an hour the wrong direction before I realized something was wrong, I was distracted listening to the riders story and she never been here, so she trusted me/app. MISTAKE! Upon arrival there was no matching street name, no hotel in sight, just some alley... Lyft nav took us to BFE. I asked her to verify hotel address and pulled up my Waze and when she said a street name I recognized... I was OH CRAP, that's like an hour the other direction. Mr. Nice Guy said, I'll get you to the correct hotel and before she exited my car, her and I got Lyft support on the phone... I explained it was their nav that took me in the wrong direction and they adjusted her fare for the correct ride/route and let me keep the additional time/mileage driven. Granted this was when Lyft had awesome support. But they also told me, it was a good idea, that I called with her there to confirm what happened, otherwise I would have looked like I was trying to pull the old taxi trick, taking the long slow route to increase the fare. So what did we learn today, kids? #1 Always confirm the riders destination before you start driving them. #2 NEVER TRUST LYFT NAV or really any new nav. It could affect your earnings!
Before I used to use Google maps. It always leads me distracted when I'm on route with Google maps. Now I use Waze which is very accurate and the highlighted route is not thin like Google maps.
I am not a fan of Google maps. I’ve had more than a few times wind Google maps had sent me in the wrong direction, and all I had to do was turn left or turn right at the intersection and I would’ve been a lot closer to my destination. With that said, I love Waze when Waze first became available. It was absolutely useless though in my area because it couldn’t seem to figure out where I was or what direction I was going, but it has gotten a lot better since then. Generally what I do is I use Uber Mabs in the app, I just follow the directions most of the time I’m for me with the area and either I agree or don’t agree and I’ll just go my own way anyways because sometimes actually more than sometimes Uber maps is effing stupid. I especially hate this new no left turn deal, it creates a whole longer way to go pick up the passenger same thing for dropping them off. It’s not like we’re driving a big commercial vehicle. It’s hard to turn. We’re basically driving a moped with four wheels most of the time. Yes that is an exaggeration. Apple Maps is OK I use it often, but where is my preference with that said recently Waze has changed their app. For some reason they don’t want you to be able to use it simultaneously on multiple devices. This has caused a problem for me I run ways or I mean I run Uber on my new iPad mini in tablet mode, and the mapping in the screen is great big Mac nice size screen with the whole right side having the extra information and tablet mode. The Lyft app is basically pretty much useless in tablet mode. It does not convert correctly. Anyways, I always keep Waze up on my iPhone because it’ll warn me if there’s something on the road or if there’s a police and I have to speed up so I’m not going to slow ha ha etc. etc.
when i began driving i was new to my major city and collected $2000 in speed and red light cams. since switching to waze Ive had 1 ticket in 7 months. another time the app told me about debris in the road and it literally saved me from wrecking. plus waze sends you information real time, and lets you report in real time. if you drive full time and dont use waze your selling yourself
As I was driving for uberr today, the rider tapped into Google maps and my Android Google phone to send directions to the nearest liquor store she found - out of our way - and in violation of the rules as it was a 3rd party that ordered the ride to a drug and alcohol rehab facility. I was PO'ed.
I use google maps since they have satellite map and really helpful identifying locations. i also use android auto so i use both uber map (on phone) and google on the car screen since uber shows you where safe place to drop riders
Waze will give you the most “efficient” route in theory, but in practice not so much. I lost count the number of times Waze wanted me to make an unprotected left into a wall of never ending cars during major traffic hours. I would usually end up sitting there forever waiting to make a left and the trip would take way, way longer as a result
I dislike when Google Maps tells you to stay on the road you are on for X amount of miles/feet. It should go without saying, to stay on the road you are on, until you need to get off, or make a turn, to a new road/exit
Uber navigation is the worst. Cannot remember when it happened but somewhere along the line, Waze option was taken from me so I used Google maps. Was not a fan. Finally figured out that if I disabled Google maps on my phone, I was allowed to use Waze again so Google maps got disabled.
I’m thinking of going to google maps too. Cause the Uber map has been disrespectful the last week lol. Hate when it rarely ever says I’ve arrived. I’m walking in the resturant, and it ways I’m a mile way . Yesturday a customer delivered to a park ….had me behind the woods . Luckily the lady communicated well.
I use the Uber nav. The problem I have, is sometimes it doesn't tell me quick enough where to go.....until the last second and I can't get over or it's to dangerous to get to my exit. Being a man with a woman in the car, it freaks them out when you miss an exit. I tried Waze and it was a shit show. Just terrible. Now i'll try Google Maps.
Hi, I’m new to gig driving. I’ve been a taxi driver for over ten years & I’ve been also using a separate gps (Garmin) in my van. Because in our taxis we have computers which sometimes give Bad Directions. My question is can I use a Garmin GPS in my vehicle?
I haven't started driving for Uber yet but one thing I can't figure out is when I take a trip, it seems that the map will navigate the route. Once I pick up my rider, do I need to enter the drop off address manually or is there an automatic way, to click something and navigation will automatically begin the process?
I am a new Uber Driver and cant stand the Uber Navigator. Its confusing and has caused me to miss turns and that infuriates the riders and causes 1 star ratings.
How do you get past Uber sending you warnings when you follow other maps I tried this once while still in the Uber app I went to Google maps and Uber sent me a warning that my account was going to be researched for going off navigation during trips so I never did it again Heeelp

@@bigboy-mr6pe Google Maps is built into the app as well as using it standalone though but I think it's still different than standalone

You explained the Apple GPS issue perfectly, in a way I could never do!!

I have Apple CarPlay in my car so I use Uber’s nav on my phone screen and Waze on my dashboard screen.

I agree
Maybe don’t speed and go through red lights. Regardless what navigation you use or don’t use at all.

Waze works better on bigger displays

Yes, it's hard for some people to discern distance, although it is helpful to know when one must start slowing down or paying attention to turn.

How has it been?
Lyft revamped their nav, and it does that zoom out feature while stooped

Garmin GPS is better in my opinion. Either set driving settings to shortest route or fastest route.
Is that still a thing!?
I like Waze cops ahead something on the Road ahead

Waze is superior .
I HATE LYFT MAP
