If you are interested in third division Portuguese football I recommend Uniao De Leiria. They used to play in the first division and had a few great seasons under Jose Mourinho. They also have a nice stadium that is situated under a medieval castle. Great video!
Absolute Legend mate.... you've done more for football in the past year than most of the guys in the football industry. Welcome to my country , have a nice stay here, enjoy the food and the Super Bock :) . You have lots of great clubs here, with lots of history ! Cheers
My friend one of the most enjoyable matches I've seen was Benfica vs Celtic Glasgow. There was 10000??? 😲 Scotish fans in that game, in Lisbon... amaaaazing atmosphere. And you guys did a beautiful homage to our player Mki Feher who was sadly deceased not long ago. Was really something, unforgettable. Football is amazing!!!! Cheers, and all the success to you.
If you are ever stuck for content over the summer I would really recommend taking a trip over to Ireland and covering a game or two in the (republic of Ireland) League of Ireland. Runs all through the summer (apart from a two week break). Brilliant atmosphere and very passionate fans. Some notable clubs to see would be: shamrock rovers, bohemians, Derry city and my club(the best one btw😉) Sligo Rovers.
Great Vlog Sam - I'll look forward to more from Portugal - A little recommendation for future consideration... A vlog from Antwerp covering the 3 clubs who play in Antwerp.... I lived there in (Berchem) wayyyy back in the mid 70s and my dad would take me to games at Royal Antwerp.. Berchem Sport.. & Beerschot... How did Royal Antwerp become the best team in Belgium this season? Their own merit or are teams like Anderlecht, Brugges, Liege just not good enough just now?
@@Daviebhoy25cfc Great question... I only catch bits n pieces via twitter so i'm not fully versed on whats been going down in the Belgian top league... Antwerp are a Big Club.. Maybe a rich chairman with a BIG Chequebook... know they used to have good contact with Man Utd and players on loan from them... All i can really say is "Good On Them" i hope they keep rising to their full potential after a fair few years in the league below ~
Love your videos footy adventures. Looking forward to your Braga video. An old working mate of mine when i was working in Ulm was a fanatic Braga fan. We also had a Sporting Lisbon fan in the firm also. Although i now live in Berlin, i had the luck to ride my motorbike from Gibraltar to Lisbon many moons ago. Beautiful city, especially riding on the trams. Oh and by the way i quite enjoy your videos of closed grounds, or where no game is taking place. Are you a full time blogger, as you certainly get about. Glad i found your channel. Dave in Berlin
Nowt better than a trip overseas for football. Highly recommend Varzim Sport Club if you go anywhere near Porto. It's on the Metro line. Stadium right next to the Atlantic Ocean! Tho I went in December a few years back!
I was in Porto last weekend and went to the game Vs Gil Vicente. Brilliant experience, ticket was €20 and the setup there is something we could learn from. Good atmosphere as well even though it wasn't a full capacity crowd
Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. Will you be doing any Marítimo content when you are in Portugal ?. Benfica are my favourite Portuguese side if I get the chance I like to watch Vitória Guimarães aswell but they dont get to much coverage here in The U.K unless they are playing one of the big three. My favourite Portuguese player growing up was Sérgio Conceição the current F.C Porto Manager he was a truly classy magnificent player for Lazio when they won La Scudetto in 1999/2000 he really stood out to me in a fabulous Lazio side jam packed with class players that Lazio side was one of the best I have ever seen. I am glad you are spreading your wings a little more again now Sam & doing content again out with The U.K & Scotland in particular being Scottish & loving history I already know a hell of a lot about club in Scotland in particular & in the U.K in general so I am glad you are spreading your wings to Portugal & giving us some Portugese Football content Benfica spreading your wings get it lol. Keep Safe Sam.
It’s great to go abroad for football. I was in Germany in November and saw Leverkusen vs Betis and Wolfsburg v Augsburg. Even managed to squeeze in a Berlin ice hockey match. Enjoy Portugal!
Have a great time out in Portugal, looking forward to the vids! If you're going back via Bristol you might as well make a detour to Home Park to come see the mighty Argyle play 🟩⬜🟩
You just got a new portuguese sub and SL Benfica fan also. Welcome to our beautiful country, enjoy it and if you have the opportunity you should go to a Benfica game to feel what our club is about! Good video :D
We took the 3 hour coach journey whilst holidaying in albufeira to spend the day in Lisbon and did the tour of this ground. Lisbon is a stunning place and that ground is something special.... super bock is the beer of Kings. They now sell it in tesco. 👍
Love a "little" away day haha. I actually travel to Germany often as my partner currently lives and studies there and mate, I am buzzing to go see some games there! Apparently the 2nd and 3rd tier have class atmosphere. Looking to go to a Kaiserslautern game mainly, but also whatever comes my way. Seeing football outside of your own country is special! Looking forward to more of these! 🙌
I would suggest Lokomotive Leipzig Chemie Leipzig Hansa Rostock Magdeburg Dynamo Dresden VfL Osnabrück & Hallescher That would be my recommendations in terms of German football. Keep Safe. You should follow ruclips.net/channel/UCGE4OSVoI4jieJPsnX0IMeA This Channel is all about German football it's a Hibs fan that runs the channel he is massively in to German football especially East German football he has did a little bit about Soviet football history aswell but it's mostly about German football.
If you can get a ticket go down to Magdeburg. I live in Berlin and am not really a fan from either of the Bundesliga clubs here. Victoria Berlin were promoted to the 3 Liga last year, started well but are now on a downward spiral. They would have played their games just a bike ride from me, but the ground didnt reach the criteria needed. They now play 20 Ks away in east Berlin, and hardly anyone goes. FCK are now allowing half of the capacity, so you might just get a ticket. Otherwise you have Mannheim or Sarbrücken in same league as FCK. Enjoy yourself L2 and L3 is alot of fun. Prefer these 2 leagues myself, as the Bundesliga is boring
“That new country smell !” Glad someone else noticed that! Super Bock is quite strong btw 🥴 Enjoyed that as always Sam…and, keep the Portuguese up for that Brazil trip !
Another cool video Sam,I was there 2 weeks ago for the City game, did Benfica beforehand, stadium tour etc, actually walked right round the stadium.Benfica murals on the buildings around the stadium, even a Benfica themed roundabout. Being pedantic but it's Sporting or Sporting CP never Sporting Lisbon, sorry mate !
Shame the Rooftop bar was closed this time, that'll always give you a good excuse to go back another time :-) I ran into a very similar problem when I went to the Algarve in March 2019, most of the bars and restaurants in the town I was staying in were closed because it was low season, even though we had temperatures of around 20c every day. Craig Brown was on the same flight as me from Glasgow to Faro, and spoke to him for a couple of minutes and got a selfie with him at the baggage reclaim.
Hi mate, brilliant video as always, I’m from wales but closely follow Boavista, they share a great rivalry with porto and are from the north part of the city, lots to talk about , a great old school stadium too mate 😊 The area around the bessa has great food and drink! Definately worth a trip to Boavista. The ultras are known as the panteras (panthers) 👍🏻 Hope this helps and encourages you to find great content 👍🏻 Good luck mate
A visit to Estádio do Bonfim would be interesting..... Home of Vitória de Setúbal... One of the most decorated teams in Portugal but have suffered difficulties in recent years and now dwell in the third tier Campeonato de Portugal...
This time last week I was in the air flying to Lisbon to week up with a group from football weekends magazine. Arrived home last night after taking in games at Beleneses, Alverca, Benfica, sporting and an u23 game at Estoril. The Benfica ground tour was great getting close to the two eagles. Also visited the other breakaway beleneses ground(original home ground) plus two over the water one of which is opposite the christ the redeemer car park. Unfortunately I couldn't get in as that should have made a good picture during a game with the statue in the background
Sam finding that article in the magazine is called "Synchronization". It's what happens when your happy and life is in order. You will get more and more weird coincidences.
If your going to the National Stadium again get the train to Cruz Quebrada near bottom of big hill. Might save you a 3 hour walk this time. Hha Ha. Sporting have a great tour as well.
Come to Portugal again and please do a video about an also very historic club: Boavista FC. We were champions of Portugal and won 5 national cups, played in the champions league, reached the semi finals of the eruopa league againts celtic and then were relagated. Fotyunatly we are back in the firts divison since 2014!
You should go to Vitoria Guimaraes. Bolton Wanderers went there in 2006 in Uefa Cup and ended 1-1 Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te scored for Bolton. . Passionate support base and have a big rivalry with Braga. Vitoria are the fourth biggest supported club in Portugal, ahead of Braga in fifth. Vitoria tend to umderachieve on the pitch however. Boavista also worth visiting, the last club outside the big three to win the title in 2001 Porto's much smaller city rivals. Maritimo worth visiting tòo but they in Madeira.
Boavista played Manchester United the following season in the Champions League after winning the title in 2001. Despite being a small club they have a really good stadium. Famous for their chequered flag shirts too

Did both Lisbon teams in one day before Xmas and then national Stadium. Didin't realise the Eagles at Benfica were real until we got on the pitch!
