Such a convoluted way for something that should be incredibly easy and intuitive.
This is crazy.. They can't figure out right click and stroke.. Look, I love FOSS.. I support GIMP. But man, as a user this should be wayyyy easier.
Thanks, Idk why they made it so complicated but you explained it well
So useful, concise, and to the point. Thanks for making this.
bfr all of this to outline some text in GImp? Why doesn't Gimp just develop an outline feature?
Thank you so much for your help! wasted a whole hour searching for how to do it until I found your video, really helpful!
Helpful and straight to the point. Thanks!
Incredibly helpful, thank you!!! Great explanation
And that is the main reason I didn't switch from photoshop to GIMP.
Super helpful! You helped me understand my problem perfectly!
Thanks! I had been struggling to add backgrounds to text, but this works incredibly well, in highlighting the text.
Thank you for quickly and clearly showing how to outline text.
Thanks that "alpha to selection" part is what all the other tutorials are missing
Very helpful! Right to the point and greatly appreciate the dedicated video just on this topic. Thank you (high lighted)!
Thanks for the simple information friend, it was just what I needed to know.
Great Video Loved It
Brilliant, really helpful, thank you.
nice and straight to the point 👍
quick and easy tutorial, many thanks
Great video! Helped a bunch!
Thank you so much. This helps a lot!
Very straightforward, a lot easier than how I was doing it.
Very Helpful Video, Thank You.
hey, thanks man. you're the goat
KING 👑
awesome!
Good tutorial Mate
This video really helped me with my project. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Quick and straight down brasstack - thanks
Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you sir!
Thank you 🤗
Thanks a lot !
great!
thanks man!
you are a great trainer thank you
Thx for the feedback.
Glad that I could help.
Good job thank you
Thanks very much😍
Thank you for this tutorial! This is great for adding an outline with rounded corners to text. If you want sharp corners, there's a great script for that, "ofn-outline-layer" by Ofnuts. After installing the script you just select layer -> outline layer contents.
Excellent video. Thanks very much.
You are welcome!
Thanks bro
Very useful! I wish there was a simpler tool for this within the program.
Thx :)
SO COMPLEX! Could have just build in outline tool like every other software. Imagine if you need to go though this process for video editing. You would go insane.
Thanks dude
thank u very much :)
Thank you
You're welcome
Because I'm worried that the printshop won't have the fonts I sent to them when the printshop launches the program. The font will not match.
Thank you bro, you’re my savior ❤👍🏻🗿🤡
FINALLY
Hi. Can I ask you about the method to create the fonts outline for printshop?
Sorry, but I've got now experience with printshop.
I didn't imagine it's going to be this complicated on gimp... Need more tools like Photoshop on this case
Lots of issues with Gimp, for sure. But it's a free tool, so I don't want to complain about it too much. In general, I would recommend using Inkscape for many text effects and then importing it into Gimp.
The problem I have is that it stays selected. I have a pic I opened. Put other pics and text on it. One text layer, I did this method. I wanted to go back and scale down a logo but when I try, the text I just put a border on is affected, not the logo. Its pretty maddening. Do I have to merge down or do something to the bordered text so it isnt being selected anymore??
Try to de-select everything before scaling by using Shift+Ctrl+A or go to Select --> None in the top menu.
Let me know if that helps.
@@MichaelBrig No select...gotta remember no select lol
Merci :) enfin j'ai réussi ... loll
why does gimp make everything a pain in the ass
Ikr, even simple editors on mobile have the option to just add an outline to a text
Yeah, but what if I misspelled outline and now want to change it. Is there really no way to do it dynamically?
Not as far as I know. Gimp doesn't have "Smart Objects" yet, like Photoshop.
@@MichaelBrig dammit. Thanks anyways!
Im trying my best to learn gimp but damn, so many steps for something that is just a right click in photoshop. once outlined you can't even make it follow a path or yes? (without doing it twice I mean)
edit: yes you can, using "merge down" in the layers first
I can't find the stupid alpha selection button, it's not letting me right click anything, I hate this app, I'm getting frustrated and annoyed
You need to have something inside the layers menu for the right click to work. But once an image is in there, you should be able to right click on the image-layer and find it.
No recuerdo como hice el borde la 1 vez en gimp, esta es la 2 forma
If I understood you correctly, you can check out this video for two more ways to create outlines: ruclips.net/video/kehzz6jVFYY/видео.html
@@MichaelBrig No sorry, this worked for me. It just a comment to myself to remind the way I did it this time, half a year ago I did other that I can not find now, so to avoid forgetting again.
Yeah GIMP is way too complicated just to do a simple outline
Fr
tysm, now i can make all the histty memes i want (*^_^*)
It works but a long way of doing it.
this is so counter intuitive. why can't they just add an outline option like photoshop smh
Alpha to selection simply doesn't do for me what it does here.
1:30 No, this doesn't work. I followed the exact steps, and I cannot bucket fill in the selection. It just fills the selection beneath it, like pouring water into an empty cup.
EDIT: Okay, I cannot bucket fill the selection, but I can draw on it. What sense does that make!?
Check your selection. It must be active or the layer will be colored fully. When you see the "marching ants" (indicates an active selection), try to use "Edit" --> "Fill with foreground color" in the top menu. But make sure your foreground color has a different color than the layer below for you to see an effect.
@@MichaelBrig No, I'm saying that the layer is active, I am clicking on the active layer with the bucket fill, and when I do, it fills in the layer below it. The bucket fill does not recognize that there's a layer there, but the paintbrush does.
Can you make a video about it, set it to private and send me the link via mail?
@@MichaelBrig At this point, no. I restarted the computer, and the issue went away. So, hopefully it was just a one-time glitch. Though, I'm pretty sure I remember having bucket fill problems before. I solved the actual problem by just making a gigantic brush and drawing over the area I wanted. :/
it is utterly ridiculous how many steps gimp makes you take to do a basic function that is needed for almost every single image that you want to add text too lol.
Harder than putting a rocket into space..., but thanks
If I ever find an easier way, I'll be the first to post an update.
gimp is the worst software in history of software !! the software can't even add a simple stroke in a proper way like photoshop do !
This is way too complicated man. Why is gimp like this?
Everything is so ridiculously complicated with GIMP. Perhaps the development team should use another famous image editor to get some inspiration ...
This is so dumb. Can't add an outline feature? Really? It's 2024!
gimp is so fucking awful lmao im just going back to photoshop. why would people even use this?
