Superman: Ultimate Escape - Six Flags Ohio - October 2000

  • This video was recorded in October of 2000 during a normal operating park day and one when the park was closed and a commercial shoot took place. We were asked by the park to be extra riders for the shoot. During the shoot, a small remote control helicopter, with an attached camera, zoomed through the loading station and close to the train to get some incredible looking shots. During a break between filming, the staff at the park allowed us to get up close with the train sitting in the station for a few minutes. We were told we could record anything as long as we didn't hit any buttons or mess with the train. The ride wasn't able to operate during this time so we were in no danger. This was recorded during a time when rules were more relaxed than they are today. I wouldn't see a situation when a park would allow that in more recent times.
Six Flags Ohio had a bizarre photo and video policy. While they didn't allow anyone to record on rides, which is understandable, there were times when I visited where you weren't allowed to record video inside the queue or in a loading station. I remember a couple times when I was yelled at by park staff for recording Superman while standing on the midway and not in any off-limits area. Just on the main midway. The reason I mention this is because if you listen closely, you can hear a ride operator trying to get my attention by yelling at me while in the station of Superman during a normal operating day. This was the first instance of my encounter with the seemingly made up rule. Anytime it happened to me after this, I would head to guest relations and ask what their policy was. They seemed just as confused as I was. Very strange indeed.

"I'm going to edit this when I get home." After almost 24 years, glad to hear you finally made it home!

The funny thing is, I believe I did make an edit of this video, but didn't have anywhere to upload. I probably put this on DVD and shared it with other friends. That is how it was done back then. Lol.

My grandparents lived in Reminderville 10 minutes from Geauga Lake, and everytime my grandpa took his boat out on Aurora Lake, I could see one of the spikes from Superman, sticking out from the trees, along with the observation tower.

I didn't get to ride this until it became Possessed at Dorney, although I did get to see this in action in 2001 when it was Worlds of Adventure. I'm glad it's still operating, even if it cost Wicked Twister to keep it going. Great footage too, always fantastic to see more of Geauga Lake during the brief Six Flags years.

Thanks! I went through one last deep dive in my video archives and found this footage. Currently, I have "older" stuff uploaded and scheduled into November of 2025. By the time I get finished with this deep dive, I am sure I will be scheduling into early 2026. I have never done something like that before. Schedule out videos so far out. Every couple of weeks older footage will be released.

My home park six flags great america has one like this that they recently rethemed to the Flash. I wish they had painted the track red, this one looks a lot nicer than the yellow versions.

This was a fun ride. It currently operates in Pennsylvania but doesn't run exactly the same as it did in this video.

It certainly was the first time I had seen anything like that in person. The commercial turned out great. I remember a shot, looking down from above the twisted spike, seeing the train head towards the end. That shot was recorded with that small drone like chopper.
