Both girls want to be the dominant alpha female. With this play fighting they test each other strength. Iriki should be the highest ranking female, because she has the youngest baby. Tayari has a more extrovert character than Iriki, so she will test to see if she can be the dominant female.D’Jeeco could show the girls who is his favorite female, but it look like he has a good relation with both of them. It’s a happy family with lots of interesting developments in the next years while the boys grow up. The boys will be playing much more in the near future when Iriki relaxes more and allows her son to play without her constantly guarding him.

I agree that Iriki looked as though she was crying, and wanted DJ to stop the fight. Seeing the expression on her face, my heart broke for her. Poor Mama was holding her baby, and still being beaten up by the crazy one. Tay doesn't even know where her baby is for heavens sake! I feel sorry for Iriki, it is apparent who DJ favors, both have given him offspring but are not equal. It certainly did not look like play to me, Tay was staking a claim, and oblivious to the danger that she placed Iriki's baby in.

I really adore Tayari, Iriki, and D'Jeeco. But...People calling this all fun and games between Tayari and iriki need to turn the dang cute music off and watch it that way. Iriki started out playing along, even when Tay was on her head with her butt in Iriki's face and she tried to play several times but T took it to a level as usual that got out of hand because she's relentless and doesn't care about where her baby is, while Iriki was trying to nurse hers and was doing what gorilla moms are supposed to do - keep young babies ventrally where they belong during rest or feeding and most of the time. Oh, and when we see DJ babysitting Jabali🤦🏻♀ while his crazy mom is busy antagonizing her co-wife/sister. Good Lord! 😳 And I forgot one of the most 😳 moments - when Iriki finally goes over to DJ for help and he almost disciplines Tayari but she turns around to walk and he became completely mesmerized and started sniffing her butt instead, he then slowly saunters off in the other direction and takes a seat. Not up on his game that day, Tayari was like the crazy ringmaster keeping them all off kilter.

It’s beyond me how people think this is fun or funny. Tayari, to my mind, is way overboard-agonistic, with fingers up Iriki’s birthing canal (whatever you want to call it, it was violent 2:00 to 2:07), giving her boob a nasty thumb poke, grab, and twist 5:43, and whacking her over the head. Iriki, who’s still looking quite miserable with the hay allergy and meds, appears torn between getting away, trying to give it back, mildly keeping it going, or plain collapsing. What a mix of emotions she must be undergoing. And just an hour ago, I was asking on a different vid whether the girls were still aggressively ‘’wrestling’’ or the episodes were just not being filmed. This is not normal. It’s attack. And, from what I’ve read recently about gorilla agression in captivity, creates mountains of stress for Iriki.

Iriki’s eyes are practically swollen shut from an allergy to a load of hay that came in, and she was on antihistamines that made her groggy and she couldn’t protect baby Ringo. She was so stressed that she was plucking herself bare and plucking DJ into polka dots. Ringo was about 6 mos old, and Tayari was regularly looting him, flying him through the air by one arm, banging him around, all the while refusing to nurse Jabali-he had to fight for his milk for a long time before she finally turned into a good mother. I found this stage terrifying. The girls had the same father, different mothers, born only a month apart and had grown up together wrestling but Iriki was always more submissive, usually on the ground on her back, fending off with her feet. Tay’s aggression got more and more brutal until Ringo was screaming, and DJ started really dishing out some discipline. Then some months later, when Iriki was feeling better, one day Tay pissed her off so bad snatching Ringo that she attacked-teeth bared, raging-and then never backed down again. Their sisterhood virtually ended. And a good thing, I thought! It’s only recently that Iriki is warming up at all, and only slightly. DJ has since grown into a dedicated troop leader, keeping the sisters in line and being a terrific Daddy. I just saw your comment below. 👍👏
Tayari is the one with the smallest baby Ringo, iriki is the one with lighter hair and red head tayari is the darker hair?????? Right??? Someone tell me cause every video they say something different 🙄
Ringo's mom is Iriki, both of them have darker fur. Jabali's mom is Tayari, both of them has lighter hair. I also spent some time to recognize them in the beginning. 😀
None of it is play, it was all an attack. Tayari only cares where her son is when it will save her from being disciplined. When ever dad approached her she ran to her son or he ran to her. It was just a sustained and escalating attack. She was flailing with full slaps right at the baby. Repeatedly.

Don't underestimate them. Iriki tried to engage in play a couple times but I agree, she wasn't liking it. She was holding her baby! She looked very distressed a few times and tried to get away . This was Tayari being really dysfunctional, I think she tries to assert dominance around D'Jeeco - the attacks on Iriki and even Ringo, the chest thumping, are all to show dominance.
I don't know if it is possible but Iriki's going to start to really distance herself from Tayari. Tayari has been faking affectionate action towards the whole family kissing,hugging, grooming and feeding Jabali a little more 👪 , she is sitting herself up to be outcasted from the family. She is going to hurt/kill Ringo if she doesn't stop attacking Iriki.

From what you just explained, I would suggest that they both have behavior problems possibly due to mental illness/disorder or neurodivergence of some kind. They do share some genetics which increases the likelihood. Is this acceptable behavior for females in a wild gorilla troop? I know Tayari and Iriki were born in captivity but perhaps these behaviors are an unfortunate side effect? I love each of these gorillas and wish I were spying on them in the wild instead. 😊❤
