I actually came up with something similar to the thumbnail while I was at Philmont.
I call it "the field bed"
Take 3 blankets/shirts/any large fabric item you can ball up to about the size of a small watermelon
Ball them up
Place one under your shoulder, one under your hip, and one between your knees.
Isolating the joints will not only help cushion them to make you comfortable, but it also allows for much more terrain compensation than even a mat.
It's also easier and lighter than a mat since you can just use a sweatshirt, a few shirts you're not using and a pillow to make it.

For the cake you got the amount wrong.... One wheat is what grows in a 1x1 square meter (pl don't ask me what is it in yards) and three times of that should be used for a cake. Ig similarly for sugar too, one sugar is from all the sugar obtainable from a 1x1 meter of sugarcane. Ig the milk was fine (as you can't place it down, its not a 1 x1 cubic meter of milk).... Mix them well and try the cake again

The bed didn't work because you used logs instead of planks. If you use planks it would have morphed into a perfect memory foam mattress.
True. The only issue is figuring out how to turn a 1m³ log into 4m³ planks. Unless the planks are 75% hollow, that should be physically impossible
