few tips stealing from a hall or library are good way. paper is also good if you have a lord with 15 management and a passion in it you can use them for a Chancellery that doesnt need paper (Chancelleries are very strong btw and combined with this they are OP) leaving it to sell you also you can 80 fertility field and fit a lot more onto one fertile patch to make lots more food that you can sell
I was sceptical at first too. But since I tried it out I aim for it as fast as possible. With a bit of investment in paper you can spread the production bonus from one lord to 20 buildings. That means your king is free mist of the time to do more things on the world map.
I like this game but IMO it suffers alot from not allowing isolationist gameplay. Basically, I just want to build my city up on my own for a while - but you simply don't produce enough goods to keep up with the population. Even turning away migrants in both my villages and having low happiness doesn't stop them from flooding my population until I can't feed anyone. Time progresses way too fast unless you set "longevity" option. Started with a 20 year old king and dude is 40 in 30 days!? come on. Especially considering you have to wait around a bunch for researching buildings that are NEEDED like the temple before you can even touch the better ones... Unfortunately all these methods are ways I already knew, and it simply is not enough ime. So far the ONLY way I found to keep up with my people's demands is pillaging my neighbors villages :P
The math is this game is pretty questionable and quite often so. specially coming from a Rimworld player unfamiliar with CK series. I hope they fix the math across the game so we can really build a colony instead of micro managing who is supposed to have s*x with who... im about to load my last game and give a final try before leaving the game for a year and coming back later
I agree, usually after some early build you should be good and start enjoying its role playing aspect but micromanaging the economy all the time occupies your brain. Also the math sometimes doest make sense specially when the traders or the freelance lord didnt visit u that day. 1 mismanagement will ruin everything its gonna snowball for days setting you back significantly
What's so bad about new people coming in? If they can pay for they food it's good. If they can not you can control how much work less people get. Rutabaga grow everywhere with 40% decrease in production. Worst foreign people can do is either become bandits (free cash) or become criminals (that's where the police comes in). If you want to stay for yourself, become best Buddy with someone and become part of they alliance. This give you enough time to grow, your industry, make trade deals and train your troops until the King dies and you can take over.
Update for anyone who cares: Norland is currently a 9/10 for me, after the patches the last two months I no longer have this issue. Turns out workers not working was a common bug and now I find the normal difficulty too easy in fact.
Early game you should sell alcohol until you reach the limit. With that money, recruit 10 dudes and buy 5 maces and 5 bow. Now you should be able to clear a few bandit camps, since bandits are cowards and get captured easily. Just make sure to stop your archers when your lord bind them, to maximize the amount of slaves. With the slaves you can work your fields until the trader comes by. With that money buy a workshop and later coal ans weapon production. To get a trade agreement, first make a Wolf hunt with your king, then send your envoy (good manners needed) and last send bribe if nessesary. Keep in mind that you have to stay above 25 relations, so most of the time it's best to sign a non aggression pact. All in all, around 200 - 500 gold are needed to get a good trade agreement, it's cheaper if you keep your eyes open for map events like disputes or revolts. Your goal should be to get wood, iron and rye to keep the production going. Keep in mind that soldigers tax is calculated by the level they have when you recruit them. Coward peasants are useless for 2 days but can be trained up with a training ground.
