    I see a few people on here commenting on how George Hurley is an underrated drummer. RUclips isn't giving me the thumbs up icon option, so I just wanted to say that I wholeheartedly agree!

    Never forget the moment a guy in my Spanish class opened up the Thrasher with D. Boon’s obit and showed it to me, somehow knowing how much The Minutemen meant to me at 16.

    '85 seemed like the year it was all starting to happen for them.....they turned out to be that super-cool dream that you wake up from than immediately get bummed out that it was only a dream that cut off way too early.........that was 8 years before I was born and it feels like I could have been there...Their sound doesn't sound constricted to the era that their music was born of.....They are just extraordinary talented ordinary people who's music could have been created decades ahead or earlier.....D. Boon just seems like an angel or a spirit when I see him living, breathing, talking, singing, playing and shredding in the only footage we've got of him.....

      I got to see him play in November of 1985 (opening for R.E.M.) only to have him die a month later. I was devastated for months as I bought 3 of their records after seeing them. I only knew 2 or 3 tunes before the concert. Still one of my favorite bands.

    And today (Dec. 22, 2020) marks the 35th anniversary of d. Boone’s death
    at the age of 27 in a traffic accident. The axel fell off of his van
    while he was resting in the back. For punk rock in Los Angeles, that is
    the day the music died. Mike Watt did amazing work with fIREHOSE (and
    other bands) after that, but it definitely broke a part of his heart
    forever.

    • @KravMagoo
      @KravMagoo Год назад

      I saw the "broken heart" with my own eyes. I drove up from NOLA to BR to see fIREHOSE open up for Sonic Youth. Kim was standing in the audience right beside me...her eyes were fixed on Watt and it looked like she was getting a woody from watching him play. When their set was over, I wandered toward the back of the building and found Mike...I told him how glad I was that he and George had hooked up with ed and were keeping the sounds alive. All the sudden he was balling like a baby, tears all over his face, going "Why D? Why D?" I was too young to really know how to console him--he just sat on some steps weeping, so I just sorta backed away and let him cry.
