thank god they redesigned them to be in the doors...cant imagine what that would have been like in a fire..trying to get that slide down

No wonder they redesigned them pretty quickly. Unwieldy things that probably got dropped out the exit before the girtbar got a chance to be connected. Sure didn't bode well in a fire if it took that long to deploy.

You could learn how to play the piano in the time it takes to deploy this slide

707 not 727 / 737 American did not operate the 737 in those days. And I think the 727 had in-the-door slides. BTW: I'd hate to have to operate those is an emergency.
Edit: This was originally posted as being a 727/737 video

I appreciate it was early days, but that design is purely horrific.

so if a man can barely handle that clumsy design, how did they expect a petite female to be able to?
Thank goodness they redesigned them, thats like a 10 minute ordeal...

After all that it’s not even a slide raft 😑

I just had an idea.... what if the slides could be in packs attached to the doors! Or before each take-off we set them up ready to deploy - or both ideas together! Or how about if the slide is also A RAFT! We have come a long way from the old canvas slides and rope ladders haven't we?!

Évacuation in under 90 secs seems impossible with that
