This was so helpful I bought a 4tb hardrive from amazon and was trying to transfer my pictures from my Mac book and wasn’t successful, but I stumbled across your video and it gave me clear directions and I made it compatible with my Mac !
I know this video is older, don't know if I'll get a responce but here's my question. If I format an external drive to this format, will it limit what file types I am able to store on it? Will it restict it to only photos and such?
My disk utility after erase tab has a third option "Scheme" which one do I select? Guid Partition Map, Master Boot Record, or Apple Partition Map? Thanks
I have a 165 GB external hard drive I'm in the process of wiping. The process started an hour ago and the end seems to be no where in sight. This is def not a few seconds to a few minutes? Is there a quicker way?
What if the backup hard drive has malware on it? Can I plug it in and erase it safely? I bought a new iMac desk top and don't want to infect it with malware on the back up drive.
I'm sorry to hear you've run into trouble. Were you able to resolve your issue? If not, you might attempt to start over and do it again (if the drive is visible on your desktop or from finder).

What if my external LaCie Hardrive doesn’t show up in disk utility at all?

Mine is not working.. My drive cannot be erased :(
I did this step by step and now the external is erased and cannot be shown again

My mac doesn't have disk ultity
That's odd. To my knowledge, every Mac has this app within the "Applications" folder, and then inside the "Utilities" folder.
There are alot of old people in the comments, I feel like disappointment to my generation... 😔
