- For my final @thegraphicsfairy Junk Journal Design Team Journal, I decided to challenge myself with a tall, thin journal. I chose an Asian theme and portrayed one of my favorite operas, Madame Butterfly.
I want to thank Karen, The Graphics Fairy for giving me the opportunity to be on this design team. I really enjoyed it and met some really lovely artists who have inspired me and become my friends. I also want to thank Jane Chipp for her help along the way, as well.
Bundles used in this journal:
Japanese Watercolors
Japanese Garden Bundle
Asian Inspired Bundle
Modern Ephemera Bundle
Medieval Spring Bundle
Interesting Insects (Butterfly)
Gorgeous Butterflies
Tattered Paper Treasures
Also - I used imagery from the Art Institute's Public Domain Creative Commons website as well.
So very lovely, delicate yet strong, historical yet also current. beautiful combinations of new and old with all looking old and cherished. Very special, jsut like you Dody. TFS
You are the best, Kimberly. Thanks so much. I hope you are well and safe out there in CA and not in any danger. Loved your seed pocket journal - I bought the kit! You are great saleswoman... you are two for two...XO
@@DorothyJanetoo 2 for 2 eh? There's a playlist of all my dtps for Chapter One Papers 😂 The sun has made a strong reappearence today in a light blue sky, giving clean up crews a chance to breath for a few days. My heart goes out to all those seriously effected. There were 452 landslides, I think it was, in one day in greater LA! Many main artery canyon roads are impassable. Have fun using these papers! 💝
Dody, what an exceptional journal. I love it!
Hi Kathleen, Thanks so much. In the end, I really enjoyed making this one!

Thanks so much, Kate. Talk about hoarding... that paper is one of my oldest hoards! I do love to use butterflies, I feel like they really fix things that need fixing. I saw the middle of the page idea in a video somewhere. Loved it. XO

Wow Dody! Such a stunning journal and I loved the story about your great grandfather. All the ephemera is beautiful and your attention to detail is amazing sweet friend! Your theme reminded me that my sister played and sang in her high school’s rendition of Madam Butterfly. xxoo
Oh! I love that about your sister! It is a sad, yet beautiful story and Opera. Thanks, dear Gail, for this heartfelt comment. XO, girlfriend

Oh Rhonda, oh wow, what a lovely comment. You don't know how much that means to me. Thanks so much!
What a beautiful journal. It'll take me some time to observe all the delicate details and perhaps emulate some of the elements you have. Well done!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking time to watch!
I love this so much. It is close to my heart. My husband's (now dead) grandfather came to America from Japan in 1906. So, I have 2 treasures sort from Japan, our 2 daughters. There used to be a trunk in my in-law's attic for many years full of stuff from Junichita Matsushita that he brought with him from Japan. No one will admit to ferreting it away, alas it is mostly gone. We do have a fabulous photo of him in Samuri armor. Supposedly he was from a Samuri family. That was probably true, they owned Panasonic, aka Matsushita Electronics. So, they were well connected. Thank you for this beautiful reminder.
Thank you for this comment. There is a wonderful book about the "opening" of Japan - www.amazon.com/Great-Wave-Misfits-Japanese-Eccentrics/dp/0375754555 - my GGrandfather fell IN LOVE with Japan after his trip. He bought property in Wisconsin, a bit of it was a tiny island, and he wanted to build Japanese bridges across the marsh. He named it "Maru Island", (I think Maru was the word for Island) Anyway - we still have it and it is full of some of the treasures he brought back. What a lovely story you have and I think your daughters are beyond treasure! Thanks so much for commenting. XO
Delightful ❤
Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
Oh Dody this is absolutely gorgeous, I’ve had some Japanese fabric and book pages I’ve been hoarding, I think I need to get them out. And that green paper is so pretty, thank you for sharing my dear friend 🤗❤️
You know, after working this and working with the Japanese ephemera, I just loved working with this theme! Thanks, Jodie!
Dody it's gorgeous. I have a lot of Japanese ephemera and this is the perfect way to use it. I may give this a try 😊
Oh, It really is so lovely! It makes such good clusters! Thanks for sharing that with me!
Incredible! I do not comment on videos too often but your journal is so inspiring, I just had to! Love it!
Wow, I just love that! Thanks so much for your lovely comment. XO
Ditto to all the comments! Your family story is wonderful. Your own designs with birds and branches really added to the theme-I hope they will be available in your shop!
Hi Brenda! Thanks so much for watching! I have debated putting them in my shop - I will try to get around to that! Thanks so much for your interest - I appreciate it!
so beautiful
Thank you so very much!
So beautiful and inspiring. My dad brought back Asian photos/ephemera from Japan, China, & Korea from when he served during WWII. I have never done anything with them but you have given me so many ideas to make something with them that could be passed down after I am gone. Thank you for sharing your lovely journal.
You are so welcome! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'm so sorry for the late response! I am just getting over Covid. All the best -
I loved the story of your great grandfather but that journal completed the story
Oh! Thank you so very much! I really appreciate this wonderful comment and you taking the time to watch. XO
Beautiful! That's so strange about the translation. I wonder if you learn to speak Japanese and translate it yourself you could write it in English then 🤣🤣🤣
You could! It was something I had never thought about, but I'm glad I looked it up! Thanks so much for watching, Carol. XO
