My 8 yr old son just learned how to skate 3 months ago and decided a year ago hes going to be goalie. I had no clue what to do or how to help. Your videos have helped alot and for that i thank you. He got his first metal and game star just last weekend.
It could be and especially if someone wants to learn to juggle. If the primary goal is becoming a better goalie, then there are better ways to train specific skills (I explain it more here - ruclips.net/video/t5aMHlLFhAQ/видео.htmlsi=YS3LO-JEZHQEflfy ); but if someone really likes juggling or wants to become a better juggler, then that is totally fine too.
Wanna go a little crazy? Take a reaction ball, draw numbers 1-6 on the ends of the ball, add the last 2 numbers you see before catching, and use that for your odds and evens. Also adds reaction to the equation.
Awesome Video, gonna try this on the ice as well with tennis balls shooting from behind the net into the wall banking it back to the goalie/net facing the wall a reasonable distance away and see how that works. "1 ball, skate to the left post, a 2 ball, skate to the right post." See how that goes. I have a big skill range amongst my Goalies that I coach and getting them to track the puck all the way into the glove, getting that glove out there in front, so they can see it, is a challenge. Love your videos, I recommend them all the time, and show them to parents, and fellow coaches as well as some Goalies, so please keep doing what you do! As a Goalie myself, catching and retaining is my biggest struggle, has been since I was a kid so showing these videos to my own collegiate coach to try couldn't hurt for on and off ice practice ideas.
Thanks going to try this! Going in to my 2nd year being a goalie. I get a lot of ice time everyday for 5 hours.. My first game of the season is going to be a tournament got a week to train my reaction time.. Everything is good but not my hand eye! Keep up with the good videos!
I sure do - you can get a free Butterfly program here - bit.ly/2J3AYMJ and if you search "Hand-eye" in the search box on my this channel (GoalieTrainingProTV), you will find lots of ideas.
For sure - anyone can make the switch to hockey, it just depends what level you want to play at. Just start off and see how you like it - I think you will LOVE it!
GoalieTrainingProTV awesome! I obviously would need to work on technique, is there certain equipment to work on my technique like butterfly and skating?
hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about sample workout program try Skyarza Hockey Coaching Star (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
Hello! I don’t know if this is too late to comment but, could you make some practice on ice? I have trouble with sliding. I always loose controls of my slide and go far away from my net please help!
For sure not too late to comment, but I don't really do on-ice videos. My area of expertise in terms of education and experience is off-ice training so I stick with that. Sorry.
GoalieTrainingProTV Aye great, just want to say you are an inspiration and I always watch you to encourage me and motivate me! Also thank you for answering to everyone’s comment and taking time to explain.
Maria my son is looking forward to meeting you in Vegas next month. I have a question about the numbers on the balls. I am guessing that the same number on the ball that after a few throws you know what number is on that colored ball. So should you use all the same color to stop from cheating? Or can/have you written different numbers on the same ball? Maybe I missed that on this if you did. Thx
I would love to go to Vegas next month, but I haven't been invited to a camp there. I have different numbers on different colours, so it isn't consistent like that. So there could be a red ball with #3 and a red ball with #2. Have a great rest of the summer - have fun in Vegas.
Hockey Exercises you know all these camps all over get a parent confused. Thought you were going to be in Vegas for USA Hockey 15U event....maybe I’m getting that confused with AXIS camp in Richmond BC???? LOL. Thanks for the clarify on the balls/numbers. I saw the blue/red/yellow and thought you could cheat the numbers after several repetitions. Thx again.
So my goalie broke their leg, out for 2. 5 months (not hockey) but amazing goalie and I wanted her to have exercises to do that don't involve legs, found tons on your site, THANKS, any other advice other than juggling and these ball drills at the wall. I want her to not be too far behind when she gets back out there, Trying for the ODP in local area.
Awesome - glad to help. These hand-eye drills will help - there are others on my channel. She can do core work, work on her mobility, lots of stuff to work on and tons of videos here to keep her going. I would also suggest reading Justin Goldman and Mike Valley's books - start with the Power Within.
Yes I did - the goal is to say it as quickly as you can identify it and that was when I picked up the number, if you give it a try you will see it is pretty hard to pick up as the ball spins, etc. Give it a try and in the meantime, I will keep practicing.
hey ,if anyone else wants to uncover goalie off ice training try Skyarza Hockey Coaching Star (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got great success with it.
Just want to make sure goalies understand the why and the how, some of you really like that. Sorry you don't but I suppose you could just fast forward until you see the drill starting. Just an idea, thanks for your feedback :)

i started being a goalie when i was 8, im 15 now
did he stick with it?
How's it going now?
I think juggling is a great “intro” to hand eye training. Or warm up??
It could be and especially if someone wants to learn to juggle. If the primary goal is becoming a better goalie, then there are better ways to train specific skills (I explain it more here - ruclips.net/video/t5aMHlLFhAQ/видео.htmlsi=YS3LO-JEZHQEflfy ); but if someone really likes juggling or wants to become a better juggler, then that is totally fine too.
Great smart drills for the smartest position in the game! Thanks for your videos!!
You are welcome!

Any benefit to doing this with the addition of wearing the goalie mask?
Yes, I think that would be helpful to get practice working seeing with the mask on

I'm still learning too :)
