I’ve been a huge U2 fan since Unforgettable Fire. They’re one of the greatest bands in rock history. Having said that, and as much as I love them, I think the choice to use them open the arena and play a residency was a massive mistake.. Any *objective* U2 fan will tell you that they are a mere shadow of their former selves for multiple reasons. Not the least of which is Bono can’t sing anymore. In the factor that I felt the most disappointed by is they had the audacity to replace Larry with some unknown drummer. On the surface that would seem like not a big deal. Bands replace members all the time. But I would disagree with that statement in this particular instance. Why do I disagree? Well.. There have been 1,867 U2 concerts spanning 44 years. For 1,866 of them, it was Bono, Edge, Adam, Larry. They are the longest running band in the history of rock with *zero* departures/deaths/blowups/fights/OD’s. The one they missed was when Adam was so sick he couldn’t even walk. That’s understandably unavoidable. But this situation, where they decided to throw that incredible dynamic away bc they want to be the first ones to play the arena is incredibly disappointing to me. As a result, the magic they once undeniably possessed as easily one of the 5 best live bands to ever exist, has long since departed.
This is gonna be... "Even Better Than The Real Thing!" (Will be there on Wednesday October 18th.)
U2 has always been at the forefront of technology with their groundbreaking tours and now being the first band to play the Sphere
