@Bean Bean Yes, he was moving the knife, but with his wrist exposed. You don’t want to put your body parts anywhere they could be hit by the knife if you slip or lose your grip. Go ahead and tell yourself, “I’d keep a firm grip.” But if your safety habits in general are as sloppy as this guy’s safety habits, you’re going to injure yourself. And you’ll keep injuring yourself until you learn better. Safety is assuming that things can go wrong, and taking steps to prevent them from going wrong. It would take less than 5 minutes to secure the dremel. Heck, even holding it down on the table, pointed away from you, would be better than this video’s demonstration of stupidity.
@@MarcosElMalo2maybe if someone is so clumsy they ort not sharpen anything yea. I’ve sharpened like this my whole life and never had a slip. I’ve had a bit break on me but layin your hand down like that keeps it pretty steady with your rotary tool. As long as you ain’t jamin parts into parts you orta be okay I reckon
i have an apex sharpener, but for quick and dirty, i use this exact method- as to using a vice- not necessary, as long as you have basic comprehension of manual work.

Dangerous method, the stone is spinning towards your wrist when the knife slips in your other hand it will fly towards your wrist. As others have said this method does not sharpen the knife correctly and at the correct angle.
It does sharpen it but you need to make sure you have it at the right angle to do so and have a vice grip or a good clamp to keep the knife in place while you go through the process, *THIS VIDEO IS A VERY BAD DEMONSTRATION DONT TRY IT THE WAY HE DONE IT OR YOU COULD END UP IN HOSPITAL WITH YOU'RE WRIST SLICED OPEN*
Wow, so much hate. Thanks for the upload, was educational and every time anyone watches a sharpening video they whine about stuff being unsafe. Go watch some custom knife making videos where the guys have done stuff for decades yet haven't killed themselves yet. If it looks dangerous to you, don't do it and leave it to people with coordination like the guy doing the video. Do we really need disclaimers for EVERY youtube video on not doing things without checking off a thousand safety checkboxes?
I have tried this before. Need away of mounting the router . Also need a much higher grain bit. This requires a steady hand. If it was me and I was just starting out, buy some sort of a sharping stone and learn how to fell the imperfections in the knife while your sharping .Sharping a knife by hand is an art that takes time to learn. No wrong way of doing it if you get the results your after.
While effective as a "quick" tutorial, as others have said it's not the safest way. Instead of brushing the spinning stone to show direction, since this video obviously has audio, it would be beneficial to have a little narration. (And a tutorial on how to put a Dremel rotary tool bit on the tool seems a little redundant.)
The video poster shouldn’t be allowed to touch anything sharper than a wooden spoon. And he’d probably screw that up. The worst thing about seeing such a sloppy worker careless of safety is how often he must endanger other people.
You have your bit too far out from the chuck. Aint no way you're getting a clean edge with it dancing around like that. You also need a jewelers Dremel or rotary tool as those cheap ones wobble. To get a clean edge it must not wobble or be out of balance. Otherwise you're just making a bunch of ragged edges. I do not recommend doing this The way hes doing it.
I know this tool doesn't have much torque but man that is so dumb holding it while in an on position and a knife in such an awkward way if you lost control there is so much that can go wrong and seriously injure himself , natural selection if you ask me

R U kidding me? Things done right: using a power tool. Really? 5) No monologue. 6) Everything else. Don't post videos like this. Some kid might see them, think they're correct, and maim themselves or others.
@@ihavegivenup7533 Do you mean generally or specifically? In general Dremel's tool quality isn't very good. Specific to sharpening knives: you have this very abrasive, small, convex sharpening surface that is more adept at grinding a small arc into the blade than sharpening it following the linear line of the blade itself. Oh, sure, you can sharpen your lawn-mower's blade, but I would never get a knife I like even a little bit near the grinding end of a Dremel. Dremel may pretend these tools can sharpen knives, even make some bits that you can fool yourself into pretending are bits designed to sharpen knives, but the whole affair is destined to fail because a Dremel is a case of the "wrong tool" for sharpening knives. And the "technique" employed? Hand-holding everything? Some may regard that as "ad hoc." I regard it as "amateur."
First minute of the video is pointless, because every one who has a dremel knows how to attach the bits, also you should sharpen the knifes in a precise angle.

That blade. That wrist. May they never meet.
If the dude is that dumb and unsafe in general, he’s going to have mishaps. Let’s hope he doesn’t injure someone else along the way.
i found the best and safest way was to hold the rotary tool down on a desk or something and only move the knife
Good idea, but I would try putting the dremel in a vice and then moving the knife rather than the dremel.
They also have an attachment for the dremel item 932 I believe that is for sharpening. Holds it at a 45

@MarcosElMalo2 the way he pointed the knife directly at his wrist. Same logic as looking down a gun barrel to see what's in it lol
