  • Every single practice & culture has its own Upstream. So is Sashiko. So is Our Sashiko. It is our pleasure to upload the Vol.4 Sashiko Dialogue, discussing the Upstream of Sashiko.
I (Atsushi) often say: “Please acknowledge the upstream”.
Ty asks questions about how we can “acknowledge” the upstream. I hope that this dialogue will deliver the message to some of you as we all agree that the message we are speaking up is somewhat different (and therefore difficult) in understanding.
As always, Ty has done all of the editing. I cannot thank him enough to keep this Sashiko Dialogue going.
By watching this, you are acknowledging the Upstream of Sashiko.
Please spread the words - to encourage others to acknowledge where (our) Sashiko came from.
    Thank you.
    Ty ( / tyxdiaz )
    Atsushi ( / sashikostory )

It’s just a joy to watch teaching of sashiko needle work done ‘correctly’. Huge cultural difference between the US & Japan at the learning stage is -Japanese acceptance of ‘right & wrong’ technique. The wisdom of good technique starts early -learning to write Chinese characters. If technique is bad, the writing quickly becomes ugly & illegible. (Master excellence in good technique first, then go on to experimenting to develop your own style.) it is simply a bad idea to focus on woke word misappropriation ideology because then you open the door to what originated was borrowed from from China and India or that Japanese should not design or wear Wester clothes. That ship has sailed! Maybe we should evaluate sashiko as ‘heta’ clumsy … or by how good the process & results are?
