Everytime I see the scene of all the other horses cheering for Spirit after he throws the Colonel off his back, I feel the waterworks coming on. Spirit was and still is my favorite childhood movie.
This was one of those movies that as a kid, you hate it. You can't stand it, it just makes you cry. And then you rewatch it years later after you've matured some, and you see how great the movie is. It's an emotional roller coaster that is years in the making
This movie hit me so hard as a child THAT I SWORE NEVER TO WATCH IT AGAIN. It hurt me. to my core. I have never had a reaction like that before. I feel like I need to force myself to watch it again…
Escaping from the Colonel's base and the canyon chase are my favorite scenes of the movie because of the bond between Spirit and Little Creek and best of all the mighty music score of Hans Zimmer. 😊
This got me through my childhood refusing to bow to my narcissistic sister. I'm very thankful that I had this example of never giving up or in. I cut her at 16.
And this isn’t considered breaking. It’s flooding. Flooding an animal is rushing the process and overwhelming the animal. It’s gross. Love this movie though.
Imagine what would have happened if Spirit was so strong he could kill a man with one kick from his back hooves. Bet that would have scared the soldiers enough to not go near him.
I think its more along the lines of they didn't allow Spirit to do so. Kinda hard to explain to kids why the main character killed ppl. Even if he's a horse@@Midnight.Creepypastas
in real life, a horse can definitely kill someone. In this movie, most definitely, if he can break the wood of those posts, then yes, he can break a bone
Horses are more than capable of instantaneously killing a human being. My tio died to a horse kick many years ago and my father claims the horse's legs went straight through his chest like spears. Can't confirm this though since I didn't witness it.
@@jonesfarm6501 in this movie the humans tried to break spirit. Make him docile and obedient. The army tried, the workers tried, even native Americans tried. Spirit refused to give up his freedom
rest assured this isnt how horses are commonly broken in nowadays. It's an alot softer approach that's taken, especially for racehorses and other riding horses. This is just a film, spirit is more a representation of the natural american landscape being dominated by colonizers - hence the brutality of this scene. You're meant to feel pity for spirit and his friend because the indigenous way of life was being destroyed at that point in history. Hope this helps :)
When you break an animal’s spirit what you’re essentially doing is taming it and there’s 2 ways of doing it. This is the old fashioned way but what’s more commonly done now is taming a horse with kindness like what Little Creek tries to do. Hence why Spirit, while NOT broken, lets Little Creek ride him in the end. Plus Spirit’s full name is, “Spirit who couldn’t be broken.”
That's what he gets for messing with spirit the horse kicked him in his eye i wonder how that felt did it hurt bro hahhh he deserves it for being mean to him the other horse's was laughing so loudly because spirit the horse wants to be free and he wants to go back to his family
I’ve actually seen wild horses before. I wanted a picture of them. It really was too bad I couldn’t though. I couldn’t really say if I was afraid of them or just respected their right to remain free of human interference even if it was just a simple wildlife photo.
Cutting his hair represented his freedom being stripped away, but it wouldn’t do anything to the horses behavior. Getting dirt out of the hooves is just a simple cleaning routine, if they were careful enough I’m sure it didn’t hurt him any
@@Mel_faye Actually, it didn’t hurt him at all. Although the way they showed it here … No. Just no. That’s not what a hoof looks like and that’s not how cleaning them works.

Nah not really. If it only took one kick that often way more people would be dead lol. Horses aren’t predators, the MO isn’t to kill and it certainly isn’t to exhaust itself. It can take one kick, but it’s usually not fatal, and it’s often more like a broken bone than a fatality, if a break at all. It’s kinda like being hit by your own dog. That blow to the face would’ve required reconstructive surgery in todays era though, so he’d still be dead tho lol

no wild horses in the US, they're feral
