I was 19 in 1980 and drove from Framingham to a park n ride. Caught the green line to Beacon St. for school. I felt so grown up and sure of myself. I just LOVE Boston and was sad to return home to Florida.

The Type 7 is in my mind the most romantic of the Boston trains. Old school charm for miles!

I love those old Boston subways. It's like stepping back in time. (downtown on the green line, for example).
    Boston rocks!

Although New York has the best known subway, Boston's subway was the first in North America. It was operated with open air streetcars running under Park Street in 1897. New York City opened for business in 1904. London, England began underground travel in 1863! I did ride on the Boston system in 1973, and later in 2003. Both times were fun!

I can't believe how little room there is for the standees on the newer Type 8 cars. I rode the Type 7s in the 1980s and 90s when I lived in Boston and there was more room for the standees despite the forward facing seats. Or is it because of? With the longitudinal seating clearly 2/3 of the "available" floor space is taken up as legroom for the seated passengers!

Ah Boston subways, where one can observe everything: from the Morbidly Obese to the
    Morbidly Intellectual.

The Type 7’s and the Type 8’s are still around. They have some Type 9’s on the track but they’re so RARE that you could only see it once or twice. The Brand NEW Type 10’s are supposedly in the works. Not sure when they’ll expect these Type 10 Cars to be on the tracks though

@ZivaMJ, although there is one green line, there are 4 different trains that all use the same line, eventually splits (Copley and Kenmore stations) and goes to different locations; they are the B, C, D, and E lines. The B green train goes to Boston University (roughly), the C green train goes to Cleveland Circle, the D green train goes to Riverside, and the E green train, the one I was waiting for, goes to Heath Street VA Medical Center.

Because of the closure of Government Center, not that it was a chore to me, because I LOVE riding public transit (no, I am NOT being sarcastic LOL), I got to ride all four lines in some way to get back to my hotel near the airport. I think the Green Line was my favorite of the four lines, and I was able to see the Government Center station under construction (Early April 2015) while passing between Park Street and Haymarket.
When I first boarded the Green Line, I thought "WTF ARE THESE VINTAGE SCHOOL BUS-LIKE CARS STILL OPERATING IN 2015???" Then it turns out there were more modern cars, I just happened to hop on the vintage one at at that time. I wish I could've rode on it more!
BTW, I think it's time that the Orange Line cars get a paint job...they're looking pretty rustic!

Boston's subway system is great! And I have been riding it since the early 1950's. without it, Boston traffic would be 100 worse than it is. I've lived in cities with no subway system and very little public transit and I can tell you it is very inconvenient to have to depend on your car 100% of the time and deal with traffic, the extra cost of gas, and rude drivers. I'm talking specifically about Orlando, Fl which has the worst drivers I've ever encountered.

Last time in Boston, I used the Green Line a lot- no complaints at all. In fact, I think Boston is generally great. As for the District line in London, UK, it is easier to find your way around on that than the Washington DC Metro.

Nice video- I love the Green Line. Got a HO scale model of one of the old Boeing-Vertol trains in my display cabinet. The "T" is my favorite metro system.

@redsoxguy617 I think they have to combo them (or it is more preferred because the type 8's are easily handicap accessible while the older 7's aren't. Hence you never see a 7 all on it's own and if you do, it's very rare.

The Type 8s looks so much better back then today, why can’t the MBTA take care of there trains? The good thing is we have the new Type 9 cars.

To tape this video knowing it violovated other people privacy

    • @zackboone15

Its not violating privacy unless its a specific person being filmed, and he's filming trains, which are not people. Also the photo policy says you can/photo/film, just no flash or tripods as those are safety hazards.

It has a better system than almost every city in America. 4 lines? Over 120 stops? Seattle just finished their first line a couple years ago and is still a few years away from its second line opening. Even after that there will be like 30-40 stops, not even close to Boston. Boston probably has the 3rd best system in the country behind Chicago and New York
