I worked in a care home for people with various conditions and the most common there was dementia.
Not everyone acts the same for sure.
I got hit scratched and bites sometimes from some of them, others would be lovely but just very confused all the time.
You have to have a lot of patience when dealing with people with dementia.
Someone said it before me^^^ but yeah, I get the joke and all, but people with dementia are prone to rapid and over-the-top mood swings and less control over their feelings and how they express themselves. Not that it makes anything that Trish is doing accurate, just makes what James said kinda wrong lol.
I worked in the alzheimers ward and the SOME of the residents with dementia/alzheimer would just turn on US and yell racist insults. 😂

@Isabel T I mean… I wouldn’t go that far if it was a dementia patient… seeing as they literally don’t have control over it. Just because someone has emotional problems doesn’t mean you shut them away. Especially when they have a whole life they lived behind them.
The first part of "Boyfriend fatshames Girlfriend at gym" is just a ripoff of the 90 day fiance episode with Nicole and Azan. Moses' script is literally just what Azan said to Nicole at the gym.

Dementia patients actually become agitated and aggressive as part of their pathology, they aren't just forgetting things and choosing to be Karen's LOL. That being said, she displayed dementia still completely incorrectly
Can dementia patients display mega anxiety too? My grandad has dementia but he's not aggressive at all, but I've noticed him becoming more anxious (I guess this would maybe fall into being agitated?).
@@nobodycaresmeimei i have worked for over four years in assisted living, independent living, and nursing facilities (and have volunteered for over 15 years as well). Yes, dementia can manifest in almost any way you can imagine honestly. I have seen people with dementia become very agitated (mostly due to intense and constant conufsion) or catatonically depressed in mere minutes. Occasionally people even seem happier and more relaxed. Some people revert back to the age of 6 or 7, some people go back go their college years.. Almost everyone I've met with dementia has severe anxiety because even in the late stages of dementia there are times of self-awareness. It would also be very anxiety-inducing to wake up without your spouse, family, or in a new place without realizing why you're in that situation.. Being rude isn't really their fault. It is a disease of the mind. Anyone with extensive experience in aging would understand that having dementia can remove any/all inhibitions and be scary and disorienting. You should always listen to people with dementia but if they are hurling insults for no reason it is because a need is not being met and they are having difficulty communicating it. Anyone calling people with late-stage dementia a Karen is completely misinformed.
It is perfectly normal for your grandfather to experience anxiety. The best way to relieve anxiety in people with dementia is reassurance, speaking in a low, calming voice, and changing the subject. Distraction is your best friend. Do a puzzle or put on your grandfathers favorite music. He is probably old enough to listen to records. Sometimes actually getting a record player and playing music on a real record can be grounding. A small drink of water is also a great idea. The elderly don't have the same hydration needs as someone in their 20s but they are still chronically dehydrated.
I was looking for this comment! People with dementia are usually not the same person as they once were before the illness. It’s a heartbreaking illness - kind and loving people can become aggressive and call you a dumb bitch and even attack you.

My mother literally has been hospitalised and diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Turns out myself and my siblings need generic testing because we each have a 50% chance of getting it. I'm waiting for the doctor to call as I type. I'm only sharing here because I need to tell somebody. Right now, only my husband, father, and one close friend knows. Scary times. Live life to the fullest, people, as you never know what will happen to turn your life on its head.
