It makes me cringe to hear that clip of the producer talking like they're the first ones to come up with the idea of doing a sequel or pseudo-sequel to The Wizard of Oz, plus he seems happy to pretend that this movie is connected to the MGM one somehow. From that statement, I can't even tell if he was aware that L. Frank Baum wrote thirteen additional Oz novels. If you're doing an Oz movie, why not cull from those instead of adapting something by his coattail-riding great grandson? Sorry if that sounds mean; I honestly don't know a lot about Roger Baum. I've always had this (admittedly potentially erroneous) impression of someone just capitalizing on his family name, but I haven't read his books, so maybe that's unfair of me to say. I feel a little guilty for thinking that after you talked about how lovely he is.
I was one of the people who failed to see Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return when it was in theaters. I remember going to see Godzilla instead with my siblings. However, I rented it on DVD and I thought it was kind of cute and inoffensive. As an artist and cartoon fan, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't recall even being especially cognizant of the weaknesses with the animation, but maybe seeing it on the small screen made it less noticeable.

I remember I went to see it on the Thursday night preview screening at the Campbell 16/Wehrenberg Theater, which is now an Alamo Drafthouse I regularly go to. I was the only one there.

YES!! I'm so glad you two are devoting an episode to this movie, I REALLY Enjoy it!!
When I saw this movie in the cinema, there were very few people in the seating too.
I think if they had included More of the BOOK Colours into the animated environment - you know like the Purple / Red / Blue / Yellow in the foliage and the trees and such - it would have looked more Oz proper.
The "Candy Candy" song is definitely the weakest and rather jarring compared to the rest of the songs, I think it was disappointing that Bernadette's Glinda was all Pink instead of "NEW" and the contradictions with the 1939 film aspects, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry have a rather poor design ... but overall I still love the film much more than I do "OZG&P".
    I have the Comics too!
I would love to see the Deleted Scenes from this animated movie ... what an interesting viewing that would be!
I see your TOTO in the background!!
For a long while I just couldn't figure out what "little bit" it was that I didn't like about Dorothy's costume or look, besides how her hair was braided ... but recently I realised it was her BOOTS. I discovered that the design of her boots was too "singer on stage" like and not "living on farm appropriate" enough, but I have no problem with her dress or outfit (unless they're trying to clarify whether it's denim or cotton or whatever fabric).
    Thanks for this!!

I kind of had trouble with the movie after hearing the Tin Woodman say "I've never had feelings before!" So... becoming tin also removed your memory of the girl you really shouldn't have fallen in love with?
