I too bought my plane on a Friday (Cessna 172) and started training on Monday. Enjoy every minute I am in the air. I am at KAND, just up the way in SC. Enjoy your ride.
Congratulations Anthony, it's a blessing to see Black men like us striving so high In aviation, i recently got my license too, you will enjoy every moment & your fiance will enjoy u even more. Stay safe my brother hopefully we meet 1 day
I’m with you, they’ve made aviation so white and apparently you are not allowed to say anything about white male controlled dominance… Let them cry you are right, I support your statement 100%..
The most economical way to fly is to join a flying club. Airplane rental may seem expensive to the tune of $100-$150/hour, but you don't have to pay through the nose for annual inspection, repairs, and other maintenance. All of these will be on top of paying the monthly loans on your airplane purchase. Also, aircraft insurance is getting very expensive if you have less than 250hours. So if you are new, join the flight club.
@@2Phast4Rocket the only issue is, the clubs around my area don't allow you to have a plane checked out for more than a day or two so you can't go on some trips.
@@AragornTrueKing Exactly, my flight club is a member own cooperative (we all buy in). There are a ton of planes compared to most places and they are still nearly all booked, you can not just show up on a sunny day and go, you might get the plane for a few hours but someone else has it right in the middle of the day so long XC are out, taking more than 2 nights is out, etc. etc. I had been working on my instrument on and off for several years. Finally just went to a 10d intensive in AZ. I flew for 20+ hrs and got about 20hrs in the sim. That's more flying then I do for the whole year some time. And it was beyond fun. Then back home and back to trying to rent. If money is a limitation this is not the hobby for you :) I can afford to own, yeah it makes no financial sense. BUT I want the ability to go flying whenever I want, for as long as I want, to where ever I want. Great video! Something to think about…. I purchased my airplane (Debonair) about 20 hours after getting my PPL. Now doing IFR in it. You often hear “save money and buy before you train.” But they leave it there. Seeing that you are an audit professional, you are the perfect guy to do a follow up video after you receive your PPL and explain “these are the real numbers on what the cost differences are.” Good luck in your PPL and future ratings!
I bought an airplane right after I got my license. I didn't want to rent, or join a club. I started keeping track of my costs and soon found out it was way to expensive to justify. But, I loved the fact that I could go to the airport when I wanted and fly when I wanted. You can't place a value on that.
Just had the exact same experience as you. Had zero hours of flight time when I bought a Cherokee 140 for my son and I to begin our PPL training. Flew the plane back 4 hours from Missouri and logged my first 4 hours of flight time. Fast-forward a little over a year and both my son and I have our PPL's and he is now at the Air Force Academy. Meanwhile I am a loving life and flying all over the place! 👍🙂 Good luck to you and hope to hear status updates in the future.
Congratulations brother! Nice to see you focused on your passion. Keep God as your co-pilot and the sky is the limit. I come from a family of Tuskegee airmen so I’m happy for you…
When you unexpectedly get caught in zero conditions, rime ice building up and your boots suddenly stop working, and your transponder wont let you squawk, fuel gauge looks dire, tell God thanks but no thanks I got this… Get back to me…
Great plane to do all your ratings in, and an easy one to sell if you want when you’re done training. Congrats and good luck in your training! Great video Mike! I like this new format.
This is my kind of guy! He's analytical practical and has and normal talking about his experience. I appreciate this video. Ice been following you for around a decade and love the content
I think one of the hardest things is finding the right CFI. My experience with my discovery flight was that the school grabbed the youngest least experienced green instructor for me. As an older person, it just didn’t click. I really don’t want to go back because they treated me as a second thought.
I get exactly what you're saying. Last year I went to a flight school that I've never been to after being out of flying for 13 years and was a low time private pilot to begin with at 100 hours. I'm in my early 50's and they paired me up with a young kid flight instructor because he didn't have many students and he couldn't have been much older than 22 years old. I only flew with him for two flight hours and we just didn't click. Some of it could have been me as I just couldn't take him seriously as he was around the same age as my own kids and some it was him as I think he was a really good pilot, but he had really bad teaching skills. After I finished the second hour with him I was so disgusted with him I never went back to that school. I could have asked for another flight instructor, but they were all booked up.
My Flight School swap my CFI"s every ten hours ,Milky my money building some else flight time,That school and another after they both went bankrupt,I stop flying for a few months until finally I was able to locate the right instructor to help me finish
I’m sorry guys I’ve been flying since 2004 and now that I’m at the airlines I continue to instruct especially since I don’t care about the hours and money I do it to help others who share my same passion.
I’m so happy I came across your video. I’ve spent the last two years debating whether purchasing an aircraft was something I should do. My wife’s been supportive and I’m taking the first step to purchase and also get my private license. Thank you.
Congratulations on your new plane. I’m in Atlanta also. I did my discovery flight in Lawrenceville Ga. I’m really excited and purchasing a plane is my path.

I'm a student pilot and I consider buying an airplane for the same reasons as him but with my dad looking to get an airplane and letting me use it for cheap, I'm thinking I'll be all set on getting one myself but still want one regardless. It must be awesome to know the fact that you own an airplane.
Great choice for your first plane! Piper Cherokees are awesome. Being familiar with your own plane will accelerate your learning. I can't tell you how many times the rental 172 would have squawks, especially the coms! Maybe look into a powerflow exhaust and a Surefly mag if you don't already have them, adds about 7 hp. Had a Grumman Tiger with those mods before the 235. Very noticeable improvement in climb performance. Again Congrats!
