- -----------UPDATE-----------
I can't thank everyone enough for the overwhelming amount of kindness and positive feedback. You guys are incredible and you've really rekindled my aspirations of recording music again. Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU. THANK all of you!! ...even you. =)
-------END UPDATE-------
Rather than be a responsible human being and spend my Thanksgiving break finishing the mountain of homework I had accumulated, I decided my time was better spent attempting to videotape myself playing all five parts of Motion City Soundtrack's "Hold Me Down". All music and lyrics written by Motion City Soundtrack and performed by me.

FAQ: Now only answers!
I started by recording the drums, then used in-ear monitors to listen to what I'd already recorded while playing the next instrument.
Every note you hear on the audio track is the take you see in the video track, save a couple of very minor touch-ups... also the backup vocal "ahhh's" beginning at 2:47 were extended.
I did NOT use Auto-Tune at all, only compressors, EQ, and reverb.
The audio was recorded through Shure SM57s, Shure SM58s, and Audio-Technica AT4041s into a PreSonus FP10 using the Sonar XL 8.5 digital audio workstation.
The video was recorded using a Panasonic HDC-TM55 camcorder and edited using Adobe Premiere CS5.
The colors are from sound-activated PAR lights with colored gels.
I used a bit of fog from a fog machine to make the lighting more prominent.
I put a pillow on my ride cymbal to hit so I could keep time without making noise. Originally I was using my leg, but that became unpleasant rather quickly.
I looped part of the lead guitar part played from 4:14 -- 4:46 (adding distortion and reverb) over the final chorus and entire ending.
No, I am not a witch or a practitioner of black magic.
The ambient noise at the end is a loop of the C# played during the verse run through unimaginable amounts of reverb. - Видеоклипы
Motion City should be proud.
Great song and you performed it well. I moved to a new city and can never find anyone to play with. This is one solution.
This is actually one of the saddest songs that I know, and the shakes and fades on your voice makes the lyrics feel so alive. You did an excellent job. I hope you're still up to covering more songs.

This is actually better than the original version.
Alaric Jenssen Haha, THANK you, sincerely! I worked really hard on it, but I respectfully disagree and still believe the MCS version to be superior.
Your very kind compliment totally made my day, though. Thank you, again!
-Kevin
Well, thank you very much! That really means a lot!!
It took 2 or 3 evenings of actual recording. Then many sporadic hours to edit it all together. I was trying to accomplish all of this during the last 2 weeks of my final semester of college, haha. "No time for meeting up with classmates regarding final group project... must edit video..."
Thank you thank you thank you!! ALSO - Yeah!! Homework be damned! ::secretly also got all the homework done somehow, but doesn't want world to know I'm not the rebel I masquerade as::
See you at New Years tomorrow!! =)
awesome dude (:
Oh, THANKyou! You know, one cover song every eight years isn't too bad, right?
I'm quite proud to be the potential catalyst for someone's epiphany. Do you happen to be able to recall what it was??
A thought now that I finished watching your video: It must really suck if someone moved your camera accidentally.
Yayyy!!!! I'm glad that it did so. Thank you!!!!1
Thank you!!
