Theres a bit of a visual bias going on with this machine, i know because i played it and felt it too. Its just a bad design that makes the game seem worse than it is, because that symbol is so eye catching you notice it more when it blocks a reel. But, as you saw that symbol IS the highest paying symbol so if you line it up its usually pretty good.
