Not sure why people keep spending hundreds to complain about a lackluster product they always have problems with and have to upgrade. Insanity. Any other company on earth would be out of business by this point. But nostalgia... meh.
Recently bought the street fighter 2 legacy cab, had no issues putting that together, which seems to be the same setup as this. About those raised edges, they were annoying me too but it's easy enough to fix. There's 2 blocks that the control panel sits on which are attached to the side panels. Just take out those screws and measure how much you need to raise them for the control panel to sit flush with the edges when re-installed. I didn't even need to drill new holes, just got some wood screws the same size, as you'll need to pierce the inner vinyl/plastic coating into the panel. Takes a bit of effort to get going but as soon as you're through that it's easy, just make sure your screw are the same size as the originals as you don't want to be going too deep into the panel. :) My control panel now sits flush with the sides and it's much better, most time consuming part is getting the new positions of those wooden blocks accurate / marked out - a clamp sure comes in handy to hold them in place as you screw in the new screw holes.
Thanks for your well thought out fix! I will check that out. All in all - I’m enjoying the cabinet a lot. I didn’t buy killer instinct, but I’m waiting for Tron. I’ll probably pick up Dragon’s Lair as well.
I don't know what they're thinking with this redesign... the sides are a problem, the controls are now too close together, the monitor is too vertical, and the ears up top are ridiculous. They're getting better with the software, but man, they sure didn't do any testing when it came to the cabinet. I think I'll stick with my Gen 2 original, for now.
Yeah the software in the monitor are great. But they should’ve tested out this physical cabinet design before production. People in the comments are giving good ideas about raising the deck, etc. I’m sure the community will come up with some thing.

Try a flat top screw. In video it looked like the screws were round top screws. Maybe they meant to put flat top screws in box and forgot or put wrong ones. Maybe you used screws that were meant for somewhere else.
OK I, I’ll look into that. Thanks for the advice. It seems like others are having the same issue, and others are not. But I don’t think it’s just me going crazy which is what I was worried about.
I was about to comment, but figured I'd check the comments for the common sense answer. You got the wrong screw in there. Flat head screw for a flush mount.
I actually bought another one at Walmart just to check it out, I had the same problem, but the same solution works. I remove the dowel rods from the marquee so I can get out of the way of the bezel.
This is incredible. This cab is a piece of shi$. I’m sorry. The screw and assembly issue, the raised CP edge, the blue sides (wtf, why in the world would I want blue side art) , the straight up and down monitor, crappy joysticks and buttons. This cabinet is fine for my mom who knows nothing about arcades, but for any half enthusiast , it’s no good. There are some great features though and good changes they made. Great video , review done well.
Well I can’t totally disagree with you. The assembly was a nightmare. The games are better than they were the first time around. But I am still irritated by this cabinet.
It appears a new control panel for these would be great solution that raises the control panel up just a bit. This is something we will look into. Awesome video

Remove those screws from the top of the bezel. it will stay in place cause their are other screws holding it. i rather that than the other way u did it
I have an idea of doing a pcb swap. I would have to buy the whole cabinet, but I would take just the monitor out of the box and store the box and the rest of the parts away. I’ll unscrew the pcb and put it in my Costco monitor, I already unscrewed the old pcb to mod the cabinet to play game systems with an X-Arcade stick but I could always go back to the old deck. I want the new pcb for the stereo output and scanlines and extra games, but not the new cabinet. I’ll just leave the other parts in the box in case I need any of them in the future. I’ll store the box in an unused basement we have that nobody goes down into. Maybe I’ll take the speaker board and marquee and deck out as well but leave the other panels and riser behind.
You’re right, defender is really hard. I can’t remember if I mentioned it in the video, but you can adjust the controls to steer the ship with a joystick. I appreciate that change!

I do like the new look of the cabinets. Only position of the monitor don't know if that is an improvement 🤔 That you get more than 3 / MK games is cool only wished they do the same like atgames. Slap that machine full of games let's say 100+ games 🙄
Yeah I’m a sucker for Arcade1up‘s business model. I like having several cabinets for my game room, but I do wish they were packed with a bunch of games. At some point I’ll have to mod these. My Pandora’s box helps for now. Thanks for stopping by!
Got mine yesterday. Came together like a breeze. The only Arcade1up cab I've ever had an issue putting together was the Star Wars, because I'm sure they sent me defective parts.

There was a version I think you’re talking about that I believe did not come with a riser or a stool. It definitely did not have Wi-Fi. I only saw this version once and I’m going off memory. You can’t beat 300 bucks. There’s gonna be some new options available but they’re gonna be around 600 bucks.
If you’re a serious player, yeah it is. I’m more of a casual player so I can deal with this. If they would come up with an improved version of this, I’d probably get it.
Great review! Mine arrived earlier in the week, no issues with the build for me. WiFi would have been great. I agree that the deck on the first release was better. I sold that one in anticipation of this release. Also, I’m 5’11 and the marquee blocks the screen if I stand to play. Overall we’re loving it. Great review!
Thanks Sean! I’m glad to know that the cabinet can be built the right way. Hopefully I get hooked up with another one. That’s true, I forgot to mention that marquee would block your vision if you’re standing. I’ve been sitting on those stools and they’re getting very uncomfortable.
My suggestion on the deck height is to glue together some washers to reach the correct height. Then glue them to the bottom of the deck on each hole. Then reinstall the screws. Haven’t done it yet on mine, but it should work. It may need longer screws though. 🖖🏼

Have you seen the new version of this? It has the red/yellow dragon from Mortal Kombat 1 on it. I would go with that one because it has an extra game and the deck looks like it’s better designed. Check that one out I think it’s starting to ship.

I had a problem too with mine! Step 12! The boards where warped cause of how tight the wrapping is, but I got it after an hour of messing around with it.....
Just got my MK Cab. The only issue I have is the bottom base and front panel with the coin slot decal doesn't line up together, so the front is open until I figure out a way to fix it
Oh wow, I’m trying to visualize this. Hopefully you got this at a good price and the problem is something you can figure out. I know they have come out with a couple other versions of this thing with slight upgrades, but I am not upgrading until we get a version with a lot more games added.
Dear Eric had no problem putting cabinet together and does look good however after 1 night playing on defender my hand was sore but worse than that the reverse button storted working intermittently , has anyone else had any problems with the buttons !! Andy
Hi Andy, no I’ve never had any problems with the buttons. You might just have a bad button which should be easily fixed, that’s the good news but you’re gonna have to replace it. I would start a ticket or you can go on Amazon and find a comparable button. They’re easy to switch out.
I have a pandora box with a bunch of stuff. They’ll make another MK cab soon, hopefully with MK 4. I don’t mind the games on it, but those raised edges are a problem for long gaming sessions
Bro I thoughs edges next the to control panel. I reached out to Arcade 1up and told them about that problem. I also told them not the fuck up the killer instinct cabinet like they did with these legacy editions!

Also the coin door sticker looks like crap it's way too big an oversized very cheap looking seems like they didn't care about these Legacy cabinets too much the good ones are going to come when we get the fake molded coin door and they're still going to be crap
I hear ya! Robotron is one of my favorites! I don’t know maybe they’re going to try to sell us a separate Robotron cabinet and probably put some of these games on it as extras. I’ll probably buy it!
That’s cool, yeah you’re not really missing anything. I have the black generic riser on my Star Wars cabinet. I bought the bench version but I really wasn’t using the bench. They are coming out with a more expensive version of it with one more game that’s not that good, for a lot more money. I think I’m good with this one until they put Mortal Kombat four on a cab.
That's pretty lame how they also had to add a WB 2021 copyright on the lit marquee. I bought the lit marquee from Arcade1up for the Gen 1 cab last year and it doesn't have anything in the lower left corner. Overall I definitely think the original wave Mortal Kombat's are definitely the superior version if you are just into having a Mortal Kombat cab despite there only being one speaker. I prefer the old deck and marquee placement far more.
Ya, You’re right. I sold my old cabinet yesterday on craigslist, it went fast. Should’ve kept it and did some kind of swap with the board. I also noticed the Warner Brothers on the marquee. Yeah the old marquee is better too.
Disappointed as it took about an hour to assemble and the unit was dead on arrival. It worked for a second while i moved some wires but as soon as I moved the cabinet into it’s final position it doesn’t come back on
Will games like joust and Tapper we're Williams entertainment. And if that's the case I would have loved to see Smash TV on there but I'm pretty sure it would only be one player cuz you need two sticks for each player just like you would for Robotron
I hope smash TV is coming. They did do burger time and karate champ, didn’t that have two sticks per side? I absolutely love Robotron as a kid. Smash TV and Robotron in the same cabinet, take my money!
The original did have them but the deck was wider and the ridges stayed away from your hands. Its ok for casual play. If you are playing through the game, it sucks!
I had the same issue with the cabinet assembly, but was able to get the marquee/speaker assembly in place with the dowels by just accepting there would be pressure against it from the screws in the screen. All in all, I'm VERY happy with the Midway Legacy cabinet. I didn't have room for A1U cabinets until later in 2020, and missed out on the original Rampage cabinet. By all accounts this is an improvement for those games (3 player Rampage notwithstanding), and the screen quality, interface, and games seem improved overall for those that existed in Gen 1 cabinets before. I did manage to get an Atari 12-1 used late last year, and I'm actually considering an upgrade to the Atari Legacy eventually, but will hold off until I see reviews of that (I do like Quantum, which is missing from the newer 12-1 cabinet).
Quantum is great! Yeah I’ll be getting the new Atari legacy soon so be sure to check things out. Yeah you’re not missing out for not buying that original rampage cabinet. This is a much better offering as far as the games go with all the new settings. At least they fix those bugs.
I’ll take that as a complement, I’m older than you think. I wish they would make more of the older classics, a lot of these games like turtles and Simpsons came out when I was getting out of arcades
Yeah, the scan lines add the horizontal lines that those old CRT TV screens had. They end up making things look a little more pixelated, it’s subtle. Despite the nostalgia, I don’t use them.

Poor build quality. You're absolutely right. Never had an issue with earlier cabs. Also, haven't seen your whole review but just to interject my two cents worth, joust is unplayable. Must be a firmware problem.

@@EvrydayErik the controls are too sensitive when it comes to joust. If you hold the button down, the ostrich flaps its wings wildly non-stop until you reach the top of the screen. The joystick is extremely sensitive as well. One touch and other direction and the ostrich runs at full speed.
Hi, When assembling mine, I just drilled 3 new holes 1/4" above the old holes, and screwed the side mounts 1/4" higher. Took me all of 30 minutes, and the controller platform ends up blush with the side walls. =). I also drilled two other holes in the top marquee to raise the marquee 1 inch higher too. Yeah people have suggested using some washers. There’s a Lotta great ideas in the comment section. I haven’t done anything yet, because I’ll probably just upgrade this cabinet again, actually they already did.
did you try installing it without the screws on the plexiglass? It's got the screws at the bottom to prevent the plexi from falling down and the speaker grill will prevent it from falling out.
No I left all the screws in the plexiglass. I made all my adjustments up near the marquee. I eventually got it together, it was just weird. Now my attack from Mars pinball is acting up. Phantom nudges.
The New design on all their legacy cabinets, SUCKS! The OG cabinets were amazingly designed. The way you have to get everything together is no good!!! That being said, the new screens, are AMAZING!!
Have you thought of maybe trying to raise the control panel at all? Don't know If that's possible but it could make it a bit more comfortable. Just wondering if you have tinkered with it since this review
I'm happy that A1Up kinda helped to kickstart the hobby but man... MAAAAAAN, they just don't know how to make quality cabs, or don't care to lol. Prices shot way up and quality remains questionable at best. I stand by what i been saying for months now. Recroom Masters offered the BEST option for mid size cabinets with their Jr model. Taller, wider, much better materials and they shut down from shipping problems and it absolutely pisses me off lol. I been looking for a replacement company but everyone i look at is either using cheap controls/materials or is sky high.
I was seriously looking at rec room masters too! I wanted to consolidate some of these games into one cabinet. Hopefully another company like them comes along. If you find one let me know.
hmm the fit is a bit strange I really didn't have any issues with my capcom legacy I just put together, the screws where in the same spot but it just left a small gap and all of the pegs fit fine.
Does the scanlines look really great with the mortal kombat games? Better like a crt arcade? I have the original arcade 1up mk and it doesn't have that option :(
I play with them on. It does help a little bit to make it look like the original game. You never really going to capture the look of the Crt screen and the refresh rate. The real reason I picked this one up is because I can consolidate my Mortal Kombat games with other games. I know they’re coming out with an improved version of this, that might be something to look into.

Hi Erik, can you recommend a way to fix the 🕹️ joysticks on Arcade1up machines because I keep dying on Ghosts and goblins and other games due to joysticks sticking and causing Arthur to run off cliffs when I need him to stand still!!!
Go on the website and request a ticket (report the issue) for a new joystick. You can get replacement joysticks and probably better ones on Amazon. They should go in pretty well. I think “ETA Prime” had videos on this sort of thing. I have an experienced this, but it would be annoying. I don’t have any quick fix solutions.
I like that they went with more of a Midway arcade cabinet shape but that marquee location is bizarre. Hopefully someone releases aftermarket stuff to extend that.The deck also looks like it would bother me. I'm not sure how they missed on these design issues. Thanks for the review!

I've loved every Arcade1up cabinet released until these Midway & Capcom Legacy cabinets. I like the idea of them but the cabinet execution is poor & I personally don't care for it. The control deck sux & I don't like the marqueue raised back instead of front & center. Easy pass for me as I wait for the Simpsons cab in 2022.
Really great video, kind of weird that Arcade 1UP changed the design of the cabinet and not improving anything. Instead they FK it up. This is a 600$ (without taxes in canada) so hell no. The one that I'm waiting for is Killer Instinct. I hope that they see all of the feedback for those Legacy cabinet and don't use that design. May is coming up and still no release date for that one?
Hey thanks a lot. This new design sort of replicates what the original machine look like. I’m not sure it works in a three-quarter scale cabinet though. If you’re standing up the marquee comes out so far it blocks your view of the screen, I forgot to mention that. I still like having it, even though I have not put it together correctly.
Thanks for the review. Definitely looks like they pulled a bezel from the wrong stack. The top screws were definitely in the wrong place. I did a bit of research, and checked some images of the real, commercial version of Mortal Kombat II, and it also has the raised edges, at the ends of the control panel. Which means, this cabinet is closer to being an more accurate 3/4 replica (interpretation) of a commercial machine. However, there is a quick fix you can make. Just make a couple of shims to put under each end of the control panel, and drill matching bolt holes. Oh, you're going to need longer bolts, to reach the threaded fasteners in the deck mount plates, on the side panels. Yes, you'll also need a gap filler for the front edge. This will allow the control panel to lay flush with the side panel edge.

@@EvrydayErik Oh, I forgot to mention, when I reported numbness in my left hand, my doc asked if I was placing the side of my hand on a table, or desk. When I told her I played a lot of arcade machines, she told me to stop resting my hands on the control panel, and hold the stick, as if it were a scalpel, and keep the wrists up. same for the buttons side. The numbness went away, after a while, and now, I'm used to playing like that, so the ridges don't bother me, at all, now.
I HAVE THE FIX FOR THE CONTROL DECK ISSUE FOLKS!!! SO... my Capcom Legacy cab was on my doorstep when I got home last night. I put it together and resolved this design issue, SUPER easy-peasy. I now have the control deck perfectly flush with the top edges and there's just enough clearance to the bottom of the bezel artwork that it comes right up to it without cutting anything off. All that is needed is a power drill with a 7/64" bit, thumb tack or nail to mark your first pilot hole and a flat ruler. That's it. For a PERFECTLY FLUSH control deck surface, on the D or left panel, measure from the yellow taped top edge to the top of the J bracket 1 & 1/4" & 1 cm, or EXACTLY 21 cm. Do this and you can get it perfectly flushed with the cab. If you'd like, drop me your email and I will send you some pics that go along with the steps.
I mean, it’s nice to have all the games in one cabinet but putting it together was a real challenge and if you’re gonna play a lot of Mortal Kombat I would maybe hold off because I know there’s another cabinet coming this year.
I got mine today and as far as those screws at the top of the screen, I took the screws out and its perfectly fine now. Still have the other screws holding plus the speakers flush against the bezel with the other screws out but a flaw for sure! Great video brother! Blessings.....

I noticed the same thing with the speaker panel, but was able to somehow force it all in there. For the control panel wings, I am considering some spacers to raise it up a quarter inch. Sucks that they got those two things wrong. Because otherwise it's a solid cab. Really like the new game settings and ability to pause.
Yeah, some kind of spacers should work. I’m gonna let smarter people like you figure something out and then copy it. Let me know if you find a good fix.
Great review! I got one of these ordered this week (I NEEDED Joust, Rampage, and Gauntlet!) I plan on doing the mods raising the control deck and possible modifying the screen angle and moving the marquee back as well. Should be pretty simple and I can trim the top of the marquee sides of the cabinet as well to look more normal (will have to repaint them if I do tho)
Yeah that does suck, but I know they have another Mortal Kombat cabinet coming at some point. They were actually supposed to be two Mortal Kombat releases this year. Maybe the address that issue on the next attempt. Until then, this is a great cabinet.
Yes some people thought I was crazy and didn’t know how to build these things. But a few of us did get versions with the screw holes messed up. I’m assuming you eventually got it together somehow. That was a frustrating couple hours.
Yeah I think these holes are all drilled in a little off. I’m curious when the second shipments of these go out in the fall whether it will be corrected.
you were screwing it to tight. that happened to me as well and as soon as I loosened them just a bit it was just fine. reason why its like that id because its certain type of wood that is frankly hardly wood at all called plaster board and is usually made in China so yeah thats why it doesn’t work 😆
OK, thanks for the information. Maybe I’ll go back in there and see what I can do I am loosen some screws up! The wood on this one feels different than prior releases.

I have MK2 on very easy and once you get to the 4th fight or so, the AI gets a lot harder. I was a good 20 minutes and like 10 to 15 continues before I gave up. Is this normal?
Great honest review. If you shaved the sides of the monitor board off, you could lean the monitor back a bit and this would also address the issue with the speaker board not connecting (leave it separate)? I want this cab, but might regret buying it if next year they come out with a new Midway Legacy cab with better games selection. I had heard they will offer the Legacy cabs over and over again. I agree with putting it together being harder than previous cabs, particularly the 2 front panels as they do not drop in from the top like they used to. You are forced to try to line up the slots while balancing them on the finished side as you are trying to attach the other side panel. It's very awkward and mine still doesn't seem like it's solid after completion. I can push one of the sides in and out and there is a slight gap between the left side and the control deck...

3/8 nuts and 10-24 2 inch screws.....Sit nuts on block screw in with 2 inch screws problem solved.

The design isn’t great at all. They seem to do little to no design research whatsoever. I would probably just put the pcb in the Costco cabinet.

Try a flat top screw. In video it looked like the screws were round top screws. Maybe they meant to put flat top screws in box and forgot or put wrong ones. Maybe you used screws that were meant for somewhere else.

I was about to comment, but figured I'd check the comments for the common sense answer. You got the wrong screw in there. Flat head screw for a flush mount.
Those screws were installed at the factory. They hold the bezel on
I actually bought another one at Walmart just to check it out, I had the same problem, but the same solution works. I remove the dowel rods from the marquee so I can get out of the way of the bezel.

This is incredible. This cab is a piece of shi$. I’m sorry. The screw and assembly issue, the raised CP edge, the blue sides (wtf, why in the world would I want blue side art) , the straight up and down monitor, crappy joysticks and buttons. This cabinet is fine for my mom who knows nothing about arcades, but for any half enthusiast , it’s no good. There are some great features though and good changes they made. Great video , review done well.
Well I can’t totally disagree with you. The assembly was a nightmare. The games are better than they were the first time around. But I am still irritated by this cabinet.

Doesn't help the problem that the P1 and p2 controls are closerr together now.
Remove those screws from the top of the bezel. it will stay in place cause their are other screws holding it. i rather that than the other way u did it

I have an idea of doing a pcb swap. I would have to buy the whole cabinet, but I would take just the monitor out of the box and store the box and the rest of the parts away. I’ll unscrew the pcb and put it in my Costco monitor, I already unscrewed the old pcb to mod the cabinet to play game systems with an X-Arcade stick but I could always go back to the old deck. I want the new pcb for the stereo output and scanlines and extra games, but not the new cabinet. I’ll just leave the other parts in the box in case I need any of them in the future. I’ll store the box in an unused basement we have that nobody goes down into. Maybe I’ll take the speaker board and marquee and deck out as well but leave the other panels and riser behind.
Defender is hard. I remember when I was a kid i would put my quarter in and last no more than 3 minutes. 😂
You’re right, defender is really hard. I can’t remember if I mentioned it in the video, but you can adjust the controls to steer the ship with a joystick. I appreciate that change!

Got mine yesterday. Came together like a breeze. The only Arcade1up cab I've ever had an issue putting together was the Star Wars, because I'm sure they sent me defective parts.

There was a version I think you’re talking about that I believe did not come with a riser or a stool. It definitely did not have Wi-Fi. I only saw this version once and I’m going off memory. You can’t beat 300 bucks. There’s gonna be some new options available but they’re gonna be around 600 bucks.

Great review! Mine arrived earlier in the week, no issues with the build for me. WiFi would have been great. I agree that the deck on the first release was better. I sold that one in anticipation of this release. Also, I’m 5’11 and the marquee blocks the screen if I stand to play. Overall we’re loving it. Great review!
Thanks Sean! I’m glad to know that the cabinet can be built the right way. Hopefully I get hooked up with another one. That’s true, I forgot to mention that marquee would block your vision if you’re standing. I’ve been sitting on those stools and they’re getting very uncomfortable.

My suggestion on the deck height is to glue together some washers to reach the correct height. Then glue them to the bottom of the deck on each hole. Then reinstall the screws. Haven’t done it yet on mine, but it should work. It may need longer screws though. 🖖🏼

Have you seen the new version of this? It has the red/yellow dragon from Mortal Kombat 1 on it. I would go with that one because it has an extra game and the deck looks like it’s better designed. Check that one out I think it’s starting to ship.

Just got my MK Cab. The only issue I have is the bottom base and front panel with the coin slot decal doesn't line up together, so the front is open until I figure out a way to fix it
Oh wow, I’m trying to visualize this. Hopefully you got this at a good price and the problem is something you can figure out. I know they have come out with a couple other versions of this thing with slight upgrades, but I am not upgrading until we get a version with a lot more games added.
Dear Eric had no problem putting cabinet together and does look good however after 1 night playing on defender my hand was sore but worse than that the reverse button storted working intermittently , has anyone else had any problems with the buttons !! Andy
Hi Andy, no I’ve never had any problems with the buttons. You might just have a bad button which should be easily fixed, that’s the good news but you’re gonna have to replace it. I would start a ticket or you can go on Amazon and find a comparable button. They’re easy to switch out.
If you're not happy...just swap out for raspberry pi..and you'd have more games to play. So it's not a total loss.
I have a pandora box with a bunch of stuff. They’ll make another MK cab soon, hopefully with MK 4. I don’t mind the games on it, but those raised edges are a problem for long gaming sessions

I just got it how you change games? example Im playing mortal kombat and i wanna switch to another game which button to get to the main menu? I have to turn the arcade off and turn it back on to play a different game
No need to turn it off and back on. Hold the player 1 or maybe player 2 button. It will take you back to the main menu.
Also the coin door sticker looks like crap it's way too big an oversized very cheap looking seems like they didn't care about these Legacy cabinets too much the good ones are going to come when we get the fake molded coin door and they're still going to be crap

That’s cool, yeah you’re not really missing anything. I have the black generic riser on my Star Wars cabinet. I bought the bench version but I really wasn’t using the bench. They are coming out with a more expensive version of it with one more game that’s not that good, for a lot more money. I think I’m good with this one until they put Mortal Kombat four on a cab.
That's pretty lame how they also had to add a WB 2021 copyright on the lit marquee. I bought the lit marquee from Arcade1up for the Gen 1 cab last year and it doesn't have anything in the lower left corner. Overall I definitely think the original wave Mortal Kombat's are definitely the superior version if you are just into having a Mortal Kombat cab despite there only being one speaker. I prefer the old deck and marquee placement far more.
Ya, You’re right. I sold my old cabinet yesterday on craigslist, it went fast. Should’ve kept it and did some kind of swap with the board. I also noticed the Warner Brothers on the marquee. Yeah the old marquee is better too.

Disappointed as it took about an hour to assemble and the unit was dead on arrival. It worked for a second while i moved some wires but as soon as I moved the cabinet into it’s final position it doesn’t come back on

Will games like joust and Tapper we're Williams entertainment. And if that's the case I would have loved to see Smash TV on there but I'm pretty sure it would only be one player cuz you need two sticks for each player just like you would for Robotron
I hope smash TV is coming. They did do burger time and karate champ, didn’t that have two sticks per side? I absolutely love Robotron as a kid. Smash TV and Robotron in the same cabinet, take my money!
I suppose I would lift my hands up and use just fingers but I get it. I heard they are period which is why they are there.
The original did have them but the deck was wider and the ridges stayed away from your hands. Its ok for casual play. If you are playing through the game, it sucks!
I had the same issue with the cabinet assembly, but was able to get the marquee/speaker assembly in place with the dowels by just accepting there would be pressure against it from the screws in the screen. All in all, I'm VERY happy with the Midway Legacy cabinet. I didn't have room for A1U cabinets until later in 2020, and missed out on the original Rampage cabinet. By all accounts this is an improvement for those games (3 player Rampage notwithstanding), and the screen quality, interface, and games seem improved overall for those that existed in Gen 1 cabinets before.
I did manage to get an Atari 12-1 used late last year, and I'm actually considering an upgrade to the Atari Legacy eventually, but will hold off until I see reviews of that (I do like Quantum, which is missing from the newer 12-1 cabinet).
Quantum is great! Yeah I’ll be getting the new Atari legacy soon so be sure to check things out. Yeah you’re not missing out for not buying that original rampage cabinet. This is a much better offering as far as the games go with all the new settings. At least they fix those bugs.
Most of these games are older than you so you don’t know how to play these classics (defender esp)
I’ll take that as a complement, I’m older than you think. I wish they would make more of the older classics, a lot of these games like turtles and Simpsons came out when I was getting out of arcades
Are we supposed to notice some profound difference when scan lines are on or off? I can't see what the supposed difference is.
Yeah, the scan lines add the horizontal lines that those old CRT TV screens had. They end up making things look a little more pixelated, it’s subtle. Despite the nostalgia, I don’t use them.
Put some washers under the control deck to raise it flush or above the sides.
Yeah, that’s an option. I haven’t played it much so it’s not really an issue.
I have the Capcom Legacy Edition and I must of got lucky because mine doesn't have that speaker installation issue. Nice work on the video!

Poor build quality. You're absolutely right. Never had an issue with earlier cabs. Also, haven't seen your whole review but just to interject my two cents worth, joust is unplayable. Must be a firmware problem.
I haven’t had a problem with joust. What’s going on with your cabinet? I guess they just announced the mortal combat new Legacy cabinet that’s gonna basically redo this one for more money of course.
@@EvrydayErik the controls are too sensitive when it comes to joust. If you hold the button down, the ostrich flaps its wings wildly non-stop until you reach the top of the screen. The joystick is extremely sensitive as well. One touch and other direction and the ostrich runs at full speed.
On the J posts that holds up the control panel, put something there to rise it up and hopefully that will help.

Hi, When assembling mine, I just drilled 3 new holes 1/4" above the old holes, and screwed the side mounts 1/4" higher. Took me all of 30 minutes, and the controller platform ends up blush with the side walls. =). I also drilled two other holes in the top marquee to raise the marquee 1 inch higher too. You can’t add games. You could install a new board or rasberry pi and load the mame versions.
I would shim the deck if possible to raise it the 1/2 inch above that trim

did you try installing it without the screws on the plexiglass? It's got the screws at the bottom to prevent the plexi from falling down and the speaker grill will prevent it from falling out.
No I left all the screws in the plexiglass. I made all my adjustments up near the marquee. I eventually got it together, it was just weird. Now my attack from Mars pinball is acting up. Phantom nudges.

The New design on all their legacy cabinets, SUCKS! The OG cabinets were amazingly designed. The way you have to get everything together is no good!!! That being said, the new screens, are AMAZING!!

I'm happy that A1Up kinda helped to kickstart the hobby but man... MAAAAAAN, they just don't know how to make quality cabs, or don't care to lol. Prices shot way up and quality remains questionable at best. I stand by what i been saying for months now. Recroom Masters offered the BEST option for mid size cabinets with their Jr model. Taller, wider, much better materials and they shut down from shipping problems and it absolutely pisses me off lol.
I been looking for a replacement company but everyone i look at is either using cheap controls/materials or is sky high.
I was seriously looking at rec room masters too! I wanted to consolidate some of these games into one cabinet. Hopefully another company like them comes along. If you find one let me know.

hmm the fit is a bit strange I really didn't have any issues with my capcom legacy I just put together, the screws where in the same spot but it just left a small gap and all of the pegs fit fine.

Does the scanlines look really great with the mortal kombat games? Better like a crt arcade? I have the original arcade 1up mk and it doesn't have that option :(
I play with them on. It does help a little bit to make it look like the original game. You never really going to capture the look of the Crt screen and the refresh rate. The real reason I picked this one up is because I can consolidate my Mortal Kombat games with other games. I know they’re coming out with an improved version of this, that might be something to look into.

Hi Erik, can you recommend a way to fix the 🕹️ joysticks on Arcade1up machines because I keep dying on Ghosts and goblins and other games due to joysticks sticking and causing Arthur to run off cliffs when I need him to stand still!!!
Go on the website and request a ticket (report the issue) for a new joystick. You can get replacement joysticks and probably better ones on Amazon. They should go in pretty well. I think “ETA Prime” had videos on this sort of thing. I have an experienced this, but it would be annoying. I don’t have any quick fix solutions.
I like that they went with more of a Midway arcade cabinet shape but that marquee location is bizarre. Hopefully someone releases aftermarket stuff to extend that.The deck also looks like it would bother me. I'm not sure how they missed on these design issues. Thanks for the review!

I've loved every Arcade1up cabinet released until these Midway & Capcom Legacy cabinets. I like the idea of them but the cabinet execution is poor & I personally don't care for it. The control deck sux & I don't like the marqueue raised back instead of front & center. Easy pass for me as I wait for the Simpsons cab in 2022.
Yeah I can’t disagree with your points, I wanted this to consolidate space. The new dip switches are cool. Simpsons is a very fun game.
Really great video, kind of weird that Arcade 1UP changed the design of the cabinet and not improving anything. Instead they FK it up. This is a 600$ (without taxes in canada) so hell no. The one that I'm waiting for is Killer Instinct. I hope that they see all of the feedback for those Legacy cabinet and don't use that design. May is coming up and still no release date for that one?
Hey thanks a lot. This new design sort of replicates what the original machine look like. I’m not sure it works in a three-quarter scale cabinet though. If you’re standing up the marquee comes out so far it blocks your view of the screen, I forgot to mention that. I still like having it, even though I have not put it together correctly.
Thanks for the review. Definitely looks like they pulled a bezel from the wrong stack. The top screws were definitely in the wrong place. I did a bit of research, and checked some images of the real, commercial version of Mortal Kombat II, and it also has the raised edges, at the ends of the control panel. Which means, this cabinet is closer to being an more accurate 3/4 replica (interpretation) of a commercial machine. However, there is a quick fix you can make. Just make a couple of shims to put under each end of the control panel, and drill matching bolt holes. Oh, you're going to need longer bolts, to reach the threaded fasteners in the deck mount plates, on the side panels. Yes, you'll also need a gap filler for the front edge. This will allow the control panel to lay flush with the side panel edge.
Yeah I was pretty frustrated when I hit this part of the assembly. Thanks for the tip to rise the deck.That’s a good point, the original did have raised edges. I guess that’s what they were going for. It’s just a little tight on that left stick. Thanks for the advice!
@@EvrydayErik Oh, I forgot to mention, when I reported numbness in my left hand, my doc asked if I was placing the side of my hand on a table, or desk. When I told her I played a lot of arcade machines, she told me to stop resting my hands on the control panel, and hold the stick, as if it were a scalpel, and keep the wrists up. same for the buttons side. The numbness went away, after a while, and now, I'm used to playing like that, so the ridges don't bother me, at all, now.

Yes, it has sound, twin stereo speakers that sounded pretty good. It’s plenty loud.
I HAVE THE FIX FOR THE CONTROL DECK ISSUE FOLKS!!!
SO... my Capcom Legacy cab was on my doorstep when I got home last night. I put it together and resolved this design issue, SUPER easy-peasy. I now have the control deck perfectly flush with the top edges and there's just enough clearance to the bottom of the bezel artwork that it comes right up to it without cutting anything off.
All that is needed is a power drill with a 7/64" bit, thumb tack or nail to mark your first pilot hole and a flat ruler. That's it. For a PERFECTLY FLUSH control deck surface, on the D or left panel, measure from the yellow taped top edge to the top of the J bracket 1 & 1/4" & 1 cm, or EXACTLY 21 cm. Do this and you can get it perfectly flushed with the cab. If you'd like, drop me your email and I will send you some pics that go along with the steps.

I got mine today and as far as those screws at the top of the screen, I took the screws out and its perfectly fine now. Still have the other screws holding plus the speakers flush against the bezel with the other screws out but a flaw for sure! Great video brother! Blessings.....

Great observations on the cabinet design
Yeah, this is the only cabinet that I really couldn’t assemble. And those edges are still a rough on the hands. Other than that, it’s a nice cabinet. Thanks for checking things out.
I noticed the same thing with the speaker panel, but was able to somehow force it all in there. For the control panel wings, I am considering some spacers to raise it up a quarter inch. Sucks that they got those two things wrong. Because otherwise it's a solid cab. Really like the new game settings and ability to pause.
Yeah, some kind of spacers should work. I’m gonna let smarter people like you figure something out and then copy it. Let me know if you find a good fix.

Great review! I got one of these ordered this week (I NEEDED Joust, Rampage, and Gauntlet!)
I plan on doing the mods raising the control deck and possible modifying the screen angle and moving the marquee back as well. Should be pretty simple and I can trim the top of the marquee sides of the cabinet as well to look more normal (will have to repaint them if I do tho)

I wasn’t able to get the original MK 1up cab. So this one works for me flaws and all. Sucks we can’t save the ejb settings for hidden characters.
Yeah that does suck, but I know they have another Mortal Kombat cabinet coming at some point. They were actually supposed to be two Mortal Kombat releases this year. Maybe the address that issue on the next attempt. Until then, this is a great cabinet.

I had the same issue assembling my cabinet. Arcade1up should have done a much better job.
Yes some people thought I was crazy and didn’t know how to build these things. But a few of us did get versions with the screw holes messed up. I’m assuming you eventually got it together somehow. That was a frustrating couple hours.

Yeah I think these holes are all drilled in a little off. I’m curious when the second shipments of these go out in the fall whether it will be corrected.
Love how the A1UP cabs look, but haven’t seen one that that functions as well as as my ALU.
Yeah ALU is a much better piece of hardware, no question. Arcade1up has all the IP‘s, so I’m a sucker for that unfortunately.

you were screwing it to tight. that happened to me as well and as soon as I loosened them just a bit it was just fine. reason why its like that id because its certain type of wood that is frankly hardly wood at all called plaster board and is usually made in China so yeah thats why it doesn’t work 😆
OK, thanks for the information. Maybe I’ll go back in there and see what I can do I am loosen some screws up! The wood on this one feels different than prior releases.

I have MK2 on very easy and once you get to the 4th fight or so, the AI gets a lot harder. I was a good 20 minutes and like 10 to 15 continues before I gave up. Is this normal?
I’m not an expert, but I believe that is normal. There are some videos on how to beat that on RUclips.

Great honest review. If you shaved the sides of the monitor board off, you could lean the monitor back a bit and this would also address the issue with the speaker board not connecting (leave it separate)?
I want this cab, but might regret buying it if next year they come out with a new Midway Legacy cab with better games selection. I had heard they will offer the Legacy cabs over and over again. Keep us updated on any mods you do, Erik. Thanks.

I agree with putting it together being harder than previous cabs, particularly the 2 front panels as they do not drop in from the top like they used to. You are forced to try to line up the slots while balancing them on the finished side as you are trying to attach the other side panel. It's very awkward and mine still doesn't seem like it's solid after completion. I can push one of the sides in and out and there is a slight gap between the left side and the control deck...
Thanks for letting me know, I was thinking I was going crazy. It should be so simple but this was so frustrating. I’m paranoid the thing is going to collapse the way I left the dowel rods out.

I followed all the screw holes. Other people has the same problem so I think something's up.
