Thank you for your video. For those who are unfamiliar with the gold melting procedure, the reason why borax is melted with the gold is because it is used as a flux. Molten flux acts as a barrier against oxygen in the air and floats off lighter weight impurities. When cooled the solidified flux now known as slag becomes vitreous, brittle and easily cracked. The metal purity assay which Andrew Henn demonstrates on his Thermo Scientific Analyzer is known as X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectroscopy which determines the composition of metals scanned in a sample. The other metal assay which a gold sample is sent out is called as a fire assay. A fire assay is also known as Cupellation where the gold sample is combined with measured out portions of other metals and together wrapped inside a small envelope made of lead foil. The packet is carefully weighed to determine its initial weight. Then the packet is placed in a small crucible called a Cupel and put in a hot kiln for melting the mixture of metals. Because the Cupel is made from a special porous heat resistant material, it will absorb molten impurities and other metals except for gold. At the conclusion, the remaining pure gold button is weighed to determine its final net weight. The calculation of the weight loss of the other metals and impurities determines gold purity compared from the start when the sample had impurities in it to its final weight when it has now been refined into pure gold.

I normally have a hard time trusting gold dealers, but this guy seems completely transparent and above-board. I'd have no problem doing business with him.

  • @stevencouitt4286

Really appreciate his willingness to share his craft.

  • @jakeschlachter3104

You guys must have a great relationship. I hope you appreciate how big of deal it was that he showed you his gold, his process, and let you post it for anyone to see. This business is pretty tight lipped and people are extremely careful. Thanks for sharing this; I always like to see the behind the scenes of gold shops.

  • @RockHudrock

Stormy - this is actually a truly great & unique video. Very cool to see the recycling process from essentially gold teeth 😬 and broken jewelry…back to raw “d’ore bars” …and to have him explaine

  • @homesteadaquarius

Thank you and Andrew both for showing this!

  • @herbash298

Thanks Andrew for showing Stormy and the stacking community the process of melting gold jewelry into bars. It's fascinating to see a bar of that size. Great series guys!

  • @TheHubeef

  • @manboy13

That was a cool video. The process is very interesting and im glad he was willing to show it. More of this type of video please!

  • @EternallyThankful-os6pz

That was really cool and educational to watch - thanks for sharing that !!

  • @rogergriffin9893

This makes perfect sense to me. I spend most of my time watching RUclips mining and prospecting, or chemistry channels. So I've seen alot of processes demo'd for refining gold from raw ore or on some of the chemistry channels different ways to seperate jewelry into pure gold and silver. But I'm always interested in what process each professional uses with precious metals. This helps me understand this step in the metal recycling process and how we end up with the final product of 24K refined, weighed, and stamped gold bars.

  • @mysterybuyer3738

I like his attention for detail and not just pass stuff off.

  • @AndreaPick

Great report, thank you both. Andrew has a nice setup, fantastic.

  • @Teh-Jones

Awesome video, I was wondering what that machine was in the background on the first couple of videos. Next Video we need to see Andrew's gold necklaces and rings he's sporting! 👍🐸

  • @SalivateMetal

THat was a cool process to see! Thanks for sharing!

  • @pmh1nic

A big thanks to you and Andrew for sharing this process.

  • @ericstarszak2076

just listening to that guy talk with his badass accent was cool enough plus the gold bar was amazing to see. great video and love to see that gold being refined

  • @SilverHusky12

So fricking cool. Most I’ve ever melted was about 2oz of gold. Couldn’t imagine seeing this much gold in liquid form. Thanks man.
