SGT1911 you’re right about the slide feeling like ice on ice and the trigger is amazing, I too own one in the black duty finish. I wanted to add a 1911 to my collection because it’s history so I looked around and did my research looking at different brands like kimber, Sig Sauer, Springfield, Rock Island and others but I wanted something reliable and of excellent quality close to custom and Dan Wesson was the one that kept popping up receiving high praise and good reviews. Someone told me it was the best 1911 you can buy before stepping up to Nighthawk, Les Baer or Wilson Combat.
I've been watching your 1911 reviews lately. Not only are they good ,thorough reviews and honest. I thought I had a lot of 1911s at ten but I'm guessing that you probably have me beat!
I have the DW Heritage 1911 and love it. Fit and finish is what you would expect and probably one of the best triggers for a 1911. Can’t beat them for the price.
@@SGT1911 I’m not sure they still make the Heritage. I purchased it about 7 years ago, had to special order it through my FFL. It’s a full size Government model. There might be a few older reviews of the gun on RUclips.
Love your reviews, you address things that I look for when buying a new 1911 that the people with a million followers don't seem to feel is important. For instance the mag releases on the Springfields lately take two men and a boy to depress. Another thing I always look at is the slide hang-up on the disconnector. Keep it up Sarge.
Man. These Dan Wesson’s are so sleek and beautiful in person. But not so much you are scared to shoot em. That’s a beauty. Would make a great carry gun. Awesome piece🇺🇸🇺🇸
Having built, and customized many 1911s, and owning almost 30 of all different companies and custom builders, Dan Wessons are on the same level as Ed Brown, and they are outstanding guns and gunsmiths! My go to EDC in 1911 is a .45 acp guardian from Wesson. And to answer why I don’t carry my own build, I build full-size steel (to big and heavy to carry all the time) and if they build it as well as they do, I don’t have to!
I have one of these in the Commander size. Dan Wesson has very specific instructions about breaking in their stainless guns,, you might want to check the manual to avoid galling. Also, the rear sight is also a night sight, just a very small, different color tritium lamp. In the dark, stack the big dot over the small one. Simple and easy to pick up. Thanks for all your 1911 content.
@@Joe_Friday DW points out that the gun is not delivered lubricated. The "oil" present is a preservative, not a lube. A cleaning is recommended followed by lubrication with a high quality product. Keep an eye on the hammer for rust. If I touch the hammer without wiping it off afterwards it develops little rust spots super easily, maybe I just have super salty sweat. I'm OCD so I wipe mine down with eezox every now and then which has mitigated the issue. Other than that I really love the straight 8 sights as well which definitely has become my preferred pistol sights. Hot damn thats one purdy gun my friend , another fine pick up !!! The only Dan Wesson I have is a 10mm Titan (15+1 double stack believe it or not) that my old man bought for me when I first moved to Alaska. Awesome gun but heavy .
I agree with you about rails. Most of my pistols have rails. I wish none of them did. I have never found a use for any of them except to add weight, detract from the aesthetics, snag on everything, and increase the footprint. Other than that, this Dan Wesson is a very nice pistol. Thanks for the video
Excellent review Sarge! I have the 5" in 9mm and the commander in 45. The 9mm is like a squirt gun. The 45 is a hoot. Both are like scalpels. IMHO, the combination of the bead-blast finish and those hyena G10 grips makes the Specialist the most fetching 1911 on the market. But it's not all about looks... it has to perform. And that it does. And boy does it stick to your hand. On the most humid of days, you could be soaked in sweat with a palm full of synthetic motor oil and the Specialist will stay put.
SGT this is a nice 1911. I think I’m going to get it. Also remember look for that Sig 938. I really want your opinion on it brother. Have a good Thanksgiving to you and your family!! 👍🏼🇺🇸🇮🇹💪🏼

Outstanding video. I purchased this handgun today …well yesterday paperwork cleared and I picked it up today. Man it’s an impressive pistol and I haven’t shot it yet. I own numerous other handguns but this is my first Dan Wesson and I’m impressed. I currently own 2 other 45ACP handguns …a Kimber Ultra Carry II 3” (which is my EDC) and a Sig Sauer XO 5” that I like as well. The Kimber had a 500 round break-in which was interesting but I love the 1911 45ACP handgun. I shoot the Kimber well and often but I’m thinking now I’d like to get my hands on. Dan Wesson Commander which is a little smaller and more concealable. I will say the way it fits and sticks in my hand is amazing and you can just feel the quality when you manipulate the slide. I just finished reading the manual 😁 and no mention of a break in period. 😂 sorta like my Sig 1911 it just said clean it the first few times and it worked flawlessly out of the box and every since whereas the Kimber was very finicky the first 500 rounds and has smoothed out. I’ll let you know about the Dan Wesson Specialist again after I shoot it but based on reputation, your review, and just the way it feels in the hand I’m expecting great things. It’s huge and heavy but I might just have to figure out a holster setup and lug this baby around as my EDC.
The Kimber issue you state is pretty common. Most all I have owned require more break in than others. You will love that DW, with the weight it is a smooth shooter. Enjoy and let me know how it goes. Probably no break in needed. Polished at assembly. Shoot safe
Well 🤦🏻♂️ my wife just pointed out to me that the manual actually say there’s a break in 50 rounds at at a time. 😅 I’m all excited I missed that.
