我是新加坡人，我們與本國人民接觸時，從來沒有去討論與香港競爭的。更多的是，新加坡小島國，如此脆弱，如何在世界潮流，大國夾縫中求生存。所以我們更憂慮的是如何提昇自己，能夠很好的生存，從來沒想過和誰去競爭。也許是因為種種現像，導致大家認為新加坡和香港在競爭吧。

香港人是小心眼和没自信的一群人。
他们很多人都认为自己是伪英国人不是中国人，他们已习惯由中国得好处，以前中国管不到他们，而现在情况不同了，所以他们觉得很不安。
新加坡是一个主权国，自己决定自己的命运，与香港完全不一样。
香港人与台湾人的心态是一样的。想由中国得到所有的好处，可是又想当个独立国，自由的与他国摸肩擦背。
不用太擔心比較，新加坡是個國家而香港是個城市有所不同。星港互補各有優勢，合作工贏是正道！祝願世界和平🙏
所以李光耀才会去美国求奥巴马总统重返亚太 掐死中国同时好给新加坡一个机会
楊榮文先生好一句：「I think he saved China」。楊先生的回應非常客觀公正，且是事實，不偏不倚。楊先生與習主席都值得我們尊敬….

BG George Yeo is right. I am Singaporean and we don’t really care about how well or badly HK is doing. We don’t even talk about HK amongst ourselves. We only care about our own well being， which is a handful already. Most of the RUclips videos that compare HK and Singapore are made by HK or pro independence Taiwanese RUclipsrs. That says a lot. I also agree with him that Xi saved China.

Hong Kong was set-up to fail from the GET-GO of the British hand-over back to China in 1997. No past colonial masters would their evil salt will pass the opportunity to plant "Poison Pills" in their former colonies as a sort of COLD REVENGE for having them kick-off from their pedestal of power. Hong Kong was no exception, as did Singapore/Malaysia, India/Pakistan, Israel/Palestine, etc. Now that the former British Empire has been reduced to mere “Wanabes”, and had since been replaced by an even more dangerous warmongering tribe, aka Americans, who deemed that nothing is ever too low for consideration in its singular pursue of global hegemony.

杨先生的确对中国进行了非常深入的研究，且受华人文化影响，更理解中国的发展理念。不得不说，习在任这些年，中国的官场和到极大改善，尤其是地方政府。如果在15年前，你去地方政府办理某些事，经常会折腾一天时间，时间都花在了跑来跑去（部门之间），且服务态度都非常差。而现在，哪怕是房产这样重大的事情，都可以在1栋大楼内1小时左右办理完成，且服务态度非常友好。这是百姓最直观的感受。看到外网经常说习的反腐只是打压其他的势力，但看到去年两位关键部门部长（习亲自提拔）先后被免职，我想如果还说这是派系斗争。。。难道是习自己与自己做斗争吗？
可是，为什么他自己提拨的人也变成了腐败分子，改腐败改了个寂寞，这本身不就是个大笑话

如果有其他派系，重大改革也是无法完成的，会造成内斗。
纵观中国历史朝代，每个朝代末期，都是派系林立，这时候哪怕君主励精图治，也无力回天。
所以一个明君，一定要是具有非常手段，还要具有崇高的理想，同时还要能在浑水中爬到高位。
这实在是太难了。所以历史上力挽狂澜的领袖少之又少。

George Yeo is right. Singaporeans don’t think of competing with HK because it always focus on how it can better itself to survive amongst all the big countries around it. HK is lucky to have China backing it. It is sad that the young generation in HK does not see it that way..
Yes indeed, the Young Hong Kongers are fortunate, China will never allow it to fail. Unlike Singapore, we don't have a " God Father " we are surrounded by Muslim Countries with different Religious Beliefs. We must learn to live in harmony with our Big Neighbors otherwise Singapore will be swallowed up. Do you think the Western World will come in to support Singapore ? I fully agree with what George Yeo had said. Singaporean rarely compare with HK'er on economic conditions. I was a Singaporean since 1992. When I moved to Singapore in 1990 , HK at that time is better than Singapore in all economic aspects. My reason of moving to Singapore is all because there is no racial discrimination against Chinese in Singapore. Openly I never say it . I just said Singapore has better life style. Later on when Singapore starts to overtake HK in economic terms I still wish HK the best. This is not a zero sum game.
Singapore wants to be top class which I don’t see anything wrong, while Singapore always seeks for win-win not comparing to win competitions unlike hkers, they always compare hk to sg that’s pointless.
HK is not in trouble. It’s growing slower than few years ago is the result of global slow down & our high expectations of post COVID recovery.
If we compare with other countries HK is in good shape.

My Hong Kong friend told me Hong Kongers or Chinese have what it takes to overcome all odds. Hong Kong was great not because of the British, but the locals themselves. They make things happen….this is also what I observed. Just organize a FO party to people like Jimmy Lai, Agnes Chow etc and make it a grand FO and move on.
Trust me, HK and Taiwan have way way way more potential for great growth than Singapore.

杨先生说的很符合实际，新加坡整个领导层认知度都与世界潮流及实际情况相符，因而制定符合新加坡长远发展的国策并得到坚持与贯彻，所以新加坡虽国小却行稳致远，而且国力及影响力得到保持甚至积极向上，功不可没。习近平上任的时候，当时我们认知是，不查腐败亡国亡党，严查腐败亡党。目前看来，有严查腐败，但是习近平的决策团队已经有相当的稳定度，所以腐败指数已经相对以前低很多，但是国家大又一党执政，国民又是从一个贫弱国家向历史复兴的快速爬升过程中，腐败无法根治是肯定的。但是目前这个国家是有希望的。

Selective prosecution on corruption due to rule of man. Inherently deep rooted in Chinese culture 升官发财。As he said Singapore is blue then this isn't practised in Singapore. Had Singapore continued its education policy based on the Chinese or Taiwanese model then corruption in Singapore would be as rampant as CCP ruled area. Indeed, Singapore Government and Singaporean by enlarged don't have such kind of mentality of looking down or stepping on others to rise. Singapore mentality is to improve ourselves and everything just falls in place. In other words, we compete with ourselves not with others. That's way there is hardly and anyone from Singapore talks about Hong Kong or Taiwan or other countries not doing well. It's just like studying in school, one can only get good results by studying your own. You cannot get good results by hoping that the others get lousy results.
Or rather we wish, but others never got lousy result. Easy things never happened. So the only way to study and get good result.
HK has a negative mindset! Stop worrying about others' achievements, instead have your own goals. Be inspired not threatened by others. Celebrate and utilize our similarities to our advantage. Don't be divisive nor focus on differences and negativity. Singapore leaders have the same positive growth mindset like that of China as well!!

Hong Kong hardly crosses the mind of Singaporeans, except for a food holiday. We really do not think or talk about competition with Hong Kong as an economy or with their people.
But strangely sometimes we encounter Hongkong colleagues who behave like we are in competition and get all sensitive and political… it doesn’t even cross our mind. We are happily doing our own thing and see no reason to compete with them.

The questions posted by the audiences were quite hostile. That lady questioned Mr Yeo and wanted him to explain (on behalf of Singapore government) does Singapore wants to overtake HK; and when Mr Yeo praised XJP the host (and some audiences) seemed uneasy and must bring in Communist Party of China (CPC) to frame the whole thing as dictatorship. I see no hope in HK.
Compare and contrast Singapore vs HK 20 years ago may be a meaningful exercise. But looking at the GPD composition now, the two places are so different, it's not even relevant.

Excellent insights by Singapore ex-FM on Hong Kong and China. Hong-Kongers should be proud of the national security law or else it will be a chaotic and lawless society. If there is no social security, it is useless for Hong Kong to follow the failed democratic system.

There is this saying... Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners. The fact we start seeing a rise of comparisons between Hong Kong and Singapore by Hong Kong base media outlets goes to show the increased insecurity of Hong Kongers.
Singapore have always model itself after Switzerland, the desire to be an oasis in a desert. Something that had been achieved.
Taiwanese media outlets frequently use Singapore as an example to criticise their ruling party's ineffectiveness or to blame the ruling party in China for political blockade.
Hong Kong media outlets use Singapore as a tool to highlight about the things that Hong Kong is still better than Singapore.
South Korea is so far ahead that they don't even bother comparing. They're probably only pitting themselves against the former number 2 economy of the world which is Japan.
Singapore is comfortable enough to be an oasis in a desert.
If you look at youtube videos alone, those that always use Sg as a comparison are made by ppl from Taiwan, Hongkong and China. Hardly anyone from Sg. Sgreans care about their own bread and butter issues and internal affairs. No time to spend time comparing. Not productive at all.
Singaporeans are just political apathetic. Anything unhappy, just complain to government. Rather than making videos, complain to MP more efficient.

The HK people just don't know the history of Singapore. Before 1959, everything the British owned in Asia, they sent to Singapore. The question is why not HK? They know that they are only leasing HK and must return HK by 1997. Did you know, the HQ FARELF (HQ Far East Land Forces, the British Admiralty/Naval Base, and the RAF bases are all in Singapore. There was the RAF Tengah, RAF Sembawang, RAF Seletar, RAF Changi all in Singapore. There was also the the BMH (British Military Hospitals(2) at Alexandra Road and the Sembawang Naval Dockyard. In fact Singapore was a British Fortress. All the facilities have been put to good use by the Singapore military. Seletar Airbase has been converted into an Civilian Aerospace Centre where Rolls Royce/Prat & Whitney and others have various MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) facilities and currently expanding. Just imagine, the feelings of the British when leaving Singapore to their feelings, when leaving Hong Kong. The Singapore of today never changed the names of roads, buildings due to its historical value.

While Mr Yeo talks from his perspective, viewers can choose to believe or not to believe. The fact that when US is putting china as the ‘greatest competitor’ or ‘greatest threat’ means that China must have done something right in the last decade, u cannot become a ‘threat’ to mighty America if u are not good enough. 😊
China has done right in joining WTO and attract foreign investment and technology transfer. But since 2012, whether it is doing the right thing is a debatable issue. China economic structure and model have run out of steam. The economic restructuring will take years. In the meantime, China has to live with slow growth. Solving the property bubble is critical, also the Government (locals and central) debts will determine how China is going to progress.

Hong Kong have China in the backyard. HK will never be (you don't do better under UK either) sovereign nation and is part of Greater China. You have all the security and future within a greater part of China. So is Taiwan. You don't need UK and USA/ West as they are declining and it's Asian Century.
Singapore does not compete with Hong Kong per se, we are striving and competing within the global economy. Why only Hong Kong ? I hope Hong Kong people stop using Singapore as an excuse and start thinking of other aspect of improving and growing economy. Don't just use financial , wealth management and property sector to drive growth and development. Your Per Capital GDP is well behind Singapore. Why ?
Compare it in this way. Look at what Singapore offers as it competitive edge and see if HK government can do. See what Singapore has done beyond your own development.

Singapore invest heavily in high technology and education and see innovation to improve productivity with a limited land mass and population.
The most important thing is to stop comparing and start working on HK economic growth and development.

Hong Kong is in a transition from an old era that was dominated by vested interests that inherited their positions from the colonial days. Now the vested interest network has been cracked, and a new one is forming. Inbthe interim it looks as if Hong Kong is sinking because the okd interests are pulling out faster than the new one is building. But I believe over time Hong Kong will emerge stronger than before and hopefully more equitable than before.
It's hard to believe he graduated from Cambridge and Harvard with the way he talks, I expect his spoken English would be a lot more eloquent.
