Every older generations always find it hard to understand the younger generations. This is not new. The issues is that as younger gens move in we older gens find it difficult to adapt to the new social changes that naturally come from a generation becoming older and part of the work place. I think as much as younger gens need to adapt to older people, older gens also need to be open to the inevitable social changes that are bound to happen as every generation becomes older. We can't avoid these changes and they happen as every gen moves into adulthood.
My kids are millennials. All 3 kids are over the age of 25. They all have great jobs and great friends and a great life. My nieces and nephews are 25 and under. They too, all have good jobs in entry level positions, great friends and a great life. What else do they all have in common? Great parents, a stable home, a great education and limited time spent on social media.
@Anna I’m Not a Banana Every earlier generation will draw their own conclusion on the next generation. We’ve known this for hundreds of years. It doesn’t matter what this current study finds. The boomers think generations X Y Z are all nuts. Most of generation X are nuts - and I can say that because who would know better then someone from generation X!? We were the latchkey kids who were left alone too much because both mom and dad had to work. The boomers had it easy. Moms didn’t work but yet dads could still buy a house and a car and still have money left over. They also went to college for free, and everyone always had more than enough to eat.
I'm 70 and still work as an RN. The AIDS crisis was horrible working through as so many nurses were allowed to decline caring for that population making the assignments for those of us who would so much harder. I was 66 years old working in the ER during Covid. I can't tell you the situation we were in with patients dying in the ER lobby before they made it into the ER itself. I'm a boomer, maybe the last generation of workaholics. RN for 44 years and I now care for near drowning children on home ventilators. A shame the new nurses today come into the field for the paycheck, not because they are drawn to nurturing. Heaven help patients needing medical attending, the young nurses simply don't care.
I get the Gen Z disillusion with this world and I appreciate it. On the other hand, some gen Z seem to be completely ignorant of the basic rules of keeping a job: 1. be on time, not 15-30 min late 2. a job is not a kindergarden, you´re supposed to actually work !!! (in order to get paid) not to play games on your phone or pretend to work from time to time 3. if you´re assigned to help older collegues, at least try to help, don´t stand by them playing with your phone while they´re working (does a very poor impression) 4. don´t make the lunch break last double or triple the time of the standard lunch break 5. listen to what the older co-worker says while showing you (don´t watch the screen of your phone) and try to replicate the opperation on your own (don´t pretend you didn´t understand every 2 out of 3 situations, you can´t be that dumb) 6. don´t try to symbolically do something on your own (from time to time) while disregarding the instructions given by your older co-worker or manager in order to impress the manager or co-worker - it´s gonna end up poorly, almost always wrong (you can´t be that smart to know better while being new than people who do this for a living many years) 7. don´t visit the WC for 30 min or more (multiple times a day) 8. when told to do a simple task actually finish !!! the task before taking a break and going to play with your phone 9. don´t try without a permission to leave job early by 30 min.
We just aren’t about making money for the CEOs and to only get a small percentage while we’re paying for overpriced rent and living in extremely inflated times. We just have common sense and the greedy people in the older generations are just mad that they can’t exploit us and manipulate us.
The corporate greed has made succeeding in life nearly impossible these days. Money doesn't trickle down; it gets taken away by the top executives; the peasants are thrown scraps after they have their feast. Even if the conditions became favorable for success (by recreating the world boomers lived in), Gen Z STILL couldn't become successful. They lack social skills, problem-solving skills, and drive. They're too emotionally fragile.
Good for Gen Z! I wish my generation stuck up for themselves as they do. The old exploitative, not getting paid a living wage, and treating low-skill workers like trash is a horrible work culture that needs to go.
That's why you have to work 2 jobs, or more. No company is going to pay you a living wage, unless you become a manager who earns a salary. Every entry-level employee working in retail is going to be treated like an idiot, even worse if you're lazy, unreliable, and can't resolve issues with customers without crying or throwing a temper-tantrum. Managers treat you entry-level employees like idiots because you took the job; they assume you're dumb and can't do any better. It may take you at least 5 years to prove to them you actually have a brain and can be taken seriously. I guarantee they won't take you seriously and listen to your ideas until you become a mid-manager. You're just a worker bee, who's not supposed to think, criticize, and be innovative, until you become a manager, so don't bother.
America's become too dependent on internet service. That's for all ages. But I think the boomers would just get out the Monopoly boards and read books like they used to.

Gen z are definitely the hardest to communicate with small talk is always awkward
Social media and technology plays a huge role, sadly.
Welcome to the world of Parents can't spank their kids. It's child abuse.
These kids have no respect or manners.
There is nothing inherently good about spanking your kids.
Or maybe young people are more resistant to being exploited like the generations before them

As a fellow homecare nurse, I totally agree. No work ethic, common sense or tact.

Whats the survey on new generation workers view how difficult it is to work with managers?
true that. wdym by difficult, it has to be defined.
