I think half of the time it was sparkle, in his dialogue with Ratio Adventurine said that classic "why so serious" sparkle keeps saying over and over again
It's nice to hear him break the "cunning charm" and performance and just talk- normally. Of course it's short lived since he's still on the job but it was nice :] Also though he's somewhat messing with Topaz and also questioning her for her choices, but he's being genuine with his advice. Though he'd likely like to be kind like Topaz was, it's too risky when it comes to working for the IPC. Let not forget he was tortured in an elevtric chair by the IPC when he murdered his owner back when he was a slave. He knows they are ruthless when needed, he knows they don't consider true hospitality, he's just trying to get that message to Topaz so she wont get in more trouble than she can take.
Well that and also the fact that he doesn't care. Like we know he had a sad backstory and all but his motivation is to keep living on with his family history with him while achieving more. He's cunning and extremely clever which makes him an excellent gambler. But I wouldn't call him uncaring or heartless because he has a facade on. Also it's still important to keep in mind him and Topaz are not close with one another, in fact Topaz dislikes him quite a bit. He wouldn't truly be honest and open hearted with Topaz, aside from the slight crack when she was about to hang up.

It would have gone worse tbh. Diamond sent Aventurine for a reason. This isn't Fatui. They aren't ranked by strength. All of them have a specialty. Obsidian is all about causing a bloodbath and Opal is about leading stuff or probably other things. Neither are social manipulators that easily gain trust and distrust in a perfect way for situations. Aventurine is manipulative af among them. But alot of them were needed for full success. Topaz for distraction and things. Aventurine for social manipulation and Jade for bartering and Manipulation. Jade was another manipulative one perfect for the situation and she also played a part in Panacony. Sunday was too strong. Their best bet was manipulation social manipulation and Outsmarting hence why they sent Jade Aventurine and Dr Ratio

I got my Jingliu now and it wasn't painful. Imma try to get her regatdless eiether 40 or 120 pulls (I did build pity trying to get more QQ Copies) I am aiming for her. I wanna have a lot of fun with her Clara Blade and Himeko and smash the Enemies with AHA.
