@@CarmelQTfulbecause Allison Williams dress was a way better reference to Karl. People who are well versed in fashion history appreciate good references!
Anok Yai's dress was lovely (the fish scale effect with the piettes, and the genius effect of the deep brown of the train against her skin), and appropriate, but the other dress deserves equal or more praise if we are looking at it through the lens of "how does this reference Karl Lagerfeld's work". He is way bigger and more influential than just black & white camellias and pearls and tweed and lots of costume jewelry, as Luke's video on his professional history illustrates.

You are officially my fav RUclipsr after this series of Met Gala 2023 roasts. Wow - what attention to detail, history, and HC house codes. For the record, Karlie Kloss was my fav Karl homage in part 3, although not my favorite outfit. But oh, how clever: the pearls on top of the trompe l’oille of pearls. It helps that Ines was one of my idols during her modeling/muse years. Bravo.
“I understand that they are meant to be pearls or look like pearls, but the issue here is that they either look like anal beads that where out in the sun for too long or it looks like alien intestines. And there’s no in between there.” 🤣🤣

1:00:34 I didn’t even know who Maya Hawke was before this Met Gala, but honestly, she was up there in my personal favorites for the evening! I coooould see it being a reference to Chanel brides, what with the white and the long train… but I believe the look is actually an homage to Fendi’s foundation as furriers. As I’m sure we all know, the Fendi logo, designed by Karl aaaall the way back in 1965 when he started working for them stands for “Fun Furs.” He was hired by Fendi to reinvent the brand from old-grandma’s-fur-coats to something more artistic and youthful. Countless shows and designs later, Karl would continue working with Fendi until his death. To this day, Fendi is one of the only companies who still use fur. No celebrity would dare wear fur to a high profile event such as the Met Gala. Just seeing the vitriol Schiaparelli received earlier this year over their Spring ‘23 show, it would be a major hit to your social standing that could even devastate your career if you weren’t an A-list celebrity with lots of die-hard fans. It’s obviously unethical to continue to use furs in this day and age for aesthetic purposes, especially when we have so many alternatives that mimic the style without having to rely on animal pelts. The usage of Prada’s floral appliqué’s to stand in for fur was an absolutely brilliant choice on their part. The way they flow is visually stunning, as well as using something that’s unique to Prada. The “fur” coat with a high collar and long sleeves plus the noticeable pantyhose and sharp toe kitten heel is arguably the most well known fur look in modern history. Did Karl invent it? Nooo… but he did reference that style into his looks with Fendi for years to come. All in all, very nice reference, on theme, and one I’m very sad to see not many people give a second thought to. I’m still glad you covered it! Thank you 🙏
On top of the Anok Yai Prabal Gurung dress being quite beautiful and clever in how it references Lagerfeld, I also give it points for how it looks like the animal that best represent Lagerfeld in life, a beautiful living fossil that's ready with a stinger.

For the Liu Wen look (Tory Burch), while I loved it somehow (probably only to me) the bottom looked a bit like no one could decide on the hem/tailoring. Maybe it is the fault of the still? However, all my picky comments aside, it is quite a beautiful look.

Curious what you thought of Pedro Pascal, Barry Keoghan and Sora Choi. Also I felt Halles dress looked better in her instagram photos. The Mets lighting is.... not great. Really washes out some of these dresses.
Seems like a common theme was a lack of accessories & styling. If someone is going to wear a simple garment, why not at least style it in an interesting way.
The “alien intestine” comment- 😂. It does look like the alien from The Fifth Element, but in white. Pretty sure I saw that pink and black halter dress on Express or Shien. That gold and silver dress is incredible up-close. It looks fluid. Hardly into the video and so far, gorgeous. I love that you share your knowledge and show us the when, where, and how of these KL references come from. Love the blue and black suit. It’s a great androgynous suit- that suit. Man.

Love this series. often throughout it I'd think something about a look and then you'd say what I'd thought. Surprised though that you didn't mention on the Julia Garner look that the halter coming from the collar referenced a tie with the ends creating the wrap, perhaps because it wasn't black? But I thought it more subtle in white. i agree the skirt was lacking a certain something. Awesome videos Luke & team.
I know. I see Burberry is doing this blue roses? on black theme, not sure if its a house code I don't know about? I actually really liked this dress, it had a very unique look to it in terms of its hanging crystals, I enjoyed it. Also glad to see Maude Apatow get her flowers! I often like how she dresses and she usually gets almost zero attention.
Thanks for doing your Met Reviews,3/4 and to be honest with you you spoiled me by having the Chapter Headings so you can jump to these fashions. I don't have time to look at this right now because it's too long and I can't henpeck to what I want to see. Oh shucks.
I really love your movies. You go boy 🤣 Although I have to admit that Anok Yai was a perfection at the Met Gala. I loved it. Recently I also saw the refrences that were not that obvious of Karl's Lagerfel's work. It is one of my numbers ones (?), one of my utmost favourite looks, though.
I don’t like all the visibly squashed boobs: I think that signifies a bad fit(ting), i.e., either too small for the breast size, or too negligently fixed (so that the pressure of the fixings is visible. High fashion should be able to adjust upper body material perfectly to the size of the wearer…

Mary is stunning but she definitely has a Look, which I think has perhaps slipped into a Rut, bc she has been doing it for so many years. I just want to see her hair styled differently....maybe more avant garde cosmetics....not a boot or a jacket for once.
Thank you for showing looks I haven’t seen yet 💚
You know I really appreciate your knowledge of the fashion history - I learned. I think you're great! Keep it up
Ok where is Cannes? Can't wait to hear your opinion of some of the looks....
I would really like you to be one of the people interviewing celebs at these types of events. The people I have seen, appear to be clueless about fashion and it would make sense to have someone more informed doing the interviews.
You're the closest thing we'll ever have to Fashion Police. Thank you for your service to fashion!!!
You saying ugly at 18:15 killed me!!
'Fanny Brice cosplay' lmfao
2:37 It looks like that guy is about to take a dump on the carpet 😅
We need to talk abt Ava's look ahhhh 😩 she ate 💅
You’re the only source I go to for fashion lol thanks for this in depth look! Just a quick correction but Cai XuKun's name is spelled with a K! His stage name is Kun :)

Hey if you have the time, I’d love to hear your opinions/review on the new Dua Lipa x Versace collection. Not sure how to feel about it personally and I thought of you immediately when I saw it. Need your take on it 🫣 thanks for all the work you put in!! Love ❤️❤️❤️
I am not sure why more hats were not involved overall. I would love to understand that decision on the part of many designers.
Not true a lot of work in editing
Totally waiting for your impressions on 2023 Cannes Red Carpet. Have to say WOW!!! Cant Wait to hear your thoughts. I think they brought their "A" Games
Love this, love your videos. When you like something-- or when you don't-- you have reasons. You have scientific explanations. You have the references.
Thank you man, you go totally in… and I appreciate it
Loving your Northern English "Ugly" accent, it put a smile on my Northern English face. Great critique as ever!
Ava Max looked great. The Paloma Spain look interested me. The fit, not perfect, but it's definitely intriguing. I enjoyed Lila Moss' look a lot so I appreciate that you noticed it. I also really liked Liu Wen's Tory Burch and not too many people seemed to notice it. THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING MADELYNE CLINE'S LOOK. I actually really liked this dress, it had a very unique look to it in terms of its hanging crystals, I enjoyed it. Also glad to see Maude Apatow get her flowers! I often like how she dresses and she usually gets almost zero attention.
Love your videos! Will there be a Cannes Film Festival roast?
One suggestion put a banner on the bottom thought to say the model & designer I'm old, keep it up longer thx
The description sums it up perfectly lmao, ruthless
Please review Taike Waititi and Rita Ora's met looks. Love his coat.
Thanks for doing your Met Reviews,3/4 and to be honest with you you spoiled me by having the Chapter Headings so you can jump to these fashions. I don't have time to look at this right now because it's too long and I can't henpeck to what I want to see. Oh shucks.
Not 'not scary to the Midwest' 🤣🤣🤣
I really love your movies. You go boy 🤣 Although I have to admit that Anok Yai was a perfection at the Met Gala. I loved it. Recently I also saw the refrences that were not that obvious of Karl's Lagerfel's work. It is one of my numbers ones (?), one of my utmost favourite looks, though.
I don’t like all the visibly squashed boobs: I think that signifies a bad fit(ting), i.e., either too small for the breast size, or too negligently fixed (so that the pressure of the fixings is visible. High fashion should be able to adjust upper body material perfectly to the size of the wearer…
jeees-uuus, I was eating pasta that came out from my nose at the "anal beads left too long in the sun" part 31:07 🤣🤣🤣
