I love your videos, Dana! I totally feel this way. It’s all about societal perceptions, right. I drive a 2010 minivan currently. Told myself I would NEVER get caught in a minivan lol. Well, I finally broke down because there’s 5 of us and I really wanted the space but something affordable because I’m dealing with debt. But people do treat you differently on the road. They pass you like you’re driving all slow and I’m driving with the flow of traffic. You can just feel a different energy on the road. But I’m not too worried about it anymore. I love, love, love the space and like you, I do not need to impress anyone

Such a good video, thank you. About ten years ago my car was towed and I had a courtesy car from my insurance that was a very big expensive car. The way people treated me on the roads was so different to when I drove my own small old cheap car! Every day people were much more courteous to me and deferential at junctions etc. So weird to observe! Like you, I’m happy to keep my financial business private. I don’t need to impress anyone and hope instead to leave a good legacy for my children. ❤

I am surrounded by people with more money than me but fortunately they aren’t braggarts. Some of them are frugal, some not. I used to compare myself to them but have learned not to now. We are all just making choices based on what’s important to us. My priorities might be different to other people’s, just like my capacity to earn more money is different to some of my friends. I like that we can all find things to do that fit in everyone’s budget.
So glad you are back Dana

I love to travel and it's a priority for me. I am fortunate that I make enough money that I can travel internationally most years. I also love to talk about my recent trips because it keeps the experience alive for me. I don't buy a lot of new clothes and my car is 11 years old (bought used in cash). I also contribute to my 401k and max out my HSA every year. It's all about priorities.

We took a trip of a lifetime to Disney World. It was so stressful even though we had the money and planned ahead. We really didn't though, because a few months later our daughter had surgery and maxed out our max on our health insurance and had to see a specialist on top of that who wasn't covered at all. We also live in a nice house with college furniture and beanbag chairs. I did finally replace my 15-year-old car because it's second engine and transmission were dying and my mechanic husband declared it not safe. It's all about perspective. I actually love not having (much) debt and a big net worth. Having a plan and a budget gives me peace.

Paper cup feels luxurious? Hmm, it really does reinforce why it’s so common that people will overspend for a “brand” or logo instead of buying something with the same or better functionality and quality at a lower price. For example, I don’t buy shirts with upitty logos because the more expensive the shirt the more likely I’ll need to sew buttons back on.

Other people should not be of our concerns. They prioritize differently their spendings. Having multiple vacations for one family is where they put a lot of thought and effort. For some other is having big savings, paying off home, helping family members to get by…
We are all Johnses to someone and someone is looking up to us.
My family was invited for a trip for New Year to Egypt. We thanked our friends who considered us, but declined as this was not planned in our yearly budget. We have no issues telling people that something is not in our budget. We traveled this year, had few vacations, and bought a home where we moved 2 months ago. Not everything is our priority.

If I find myself with an extra $50-$150 after everything is paid, savings are bulked up, etc - I'll go there either by myself or with my husband or a friend, have a couple drinks & a really nice meal. I know it's not for everyone but I'll spend a pretty penny on a really good meal. ❤

I do get my hair and nails done because where I live, I absolutely notice a difference in how I'm treated. But I also drive a 2008 Tahoe that's getting pretty worse for wear. It just got some major work done & I'm hoping it'll last another year or 2 before the exhaust manifold in the engine needs to be replaced! That being said, I love being able to pay for things in cash (or all at once with a debit card) & have to remind myself that I've put that "nice car" money into my retirement instead of a nicer car so that I don't have to work until my death bed like many of my coworkers who spend all their money on flashy items. When I got promoted at my last job, I did celebrate by buying myself a Kate Spade tote. It's been 4 years, and it is living up to the hype! I told my husband that if it doesn't last 10 years or more, I'll go back to Walmart & TJMaxx purses. Only 6 more years to go!

I was in a church group years ago. Most of the other women were career women and I was a stay at home mother. One of the other women complained that her housekeeper took a bag of donations to Goodwill with the pillows to her Queen Ann chair in it. She put this woman down even though she admitted that she was the one who put them in the bag and forgot to take them back out... I sat there quietly and someone asked me what I was thinking. All I could say is " I just realized I am the housekeeper". (Crickets)......

Also, people have different priorities. For me, building my retirement fund and hopefully retiring early is a priority. For others, being able to travel while they're young and healthy may be a priority. Some people prioritize big families and lots of kids, others prioritize freedom and experiences. I could make a case for my choice, but I can't really say that one way is right and the other way is wrong, as long as people live within their means. The grass may always be greener on the other side, but as long as you're clear about why you made the choices you did, you can hopefully keep the envy in check.

I've learned SO many people are in crazy debt to go on fancy trips, buy huge homes, nice cars, etc. They are secretly financially miserable. Most of the time, it's all just so they can post their "lifestyle" on social media! The best thing I did was quit all social media and stop comparing myself and my financial situation to anyone else. It's a wonderful feeling to be debt free, live below our means, and save up for truly special trips and experiences. 💕

I am not a bad driver. Often the most aggressive drivers on the road are in a BMW! Funny! I always think they are in a rush to get to work to pay off that vehicle. :) Also I will say that I prepared taxes and you would be blown away by folks who dressed in "ratty clothing" who made well over $100,000. I didn't have furniture in my first house that I sold because my husband and I don't sit on a couch. We sit at our desks. We don't watch cable, we use the internet for entertainment. I bought a couch and no one used it. It just sat there. We ate at our desk. We don't eat at a table. We didn't have furniture or had furniture we didn't use because we literally sit at our desks for everything, or sleep or sit outside. We had a picnic table to sit down at outside. We had shelves and rugs and chairs for the kitchen island that we never really used. We got picked on a lot for no having furniture, but we didn't have guests over and we didn't use the 4,000.00 couch I got, so I decided to not waste more money. I mean, no furniture doesn't always equal house poor is what I am saying.

  • @qq1651

I feel like the saying "keeping up with the Jones" means going into debt to look good like rich people that live next door. TRICKING the Jones', however, is a fun game to me. I have a very nice Starbucks to go cup that I bought for under a buck at Goodwill, that I use when out and about and bring my own special or even plain coffee. If find it easier to explain than explaining why I have homemade coffee in a used styrofoam cup. Its easier to just "fit in" than to explain that Im saving money by carrying my own coffee. When my kids were little, and had peer pressure from their friends, I spent lots of time changing out generic cereal bags into name brand boxes, tearing off labels of generic ketchup, and sewing on designer labels onto cheap jeans. We give into the shoes - one pair per year. lol IDK, I find it fun to live the same as everyone else but more frugally. Because of these things, we are able to tell everybody (who asks us to tell them lol) about our yearly, two week Mexican vacations and our week long July summer lake vacations. We are debt free and very low income. But nobody would ever know it and we prefer it that way, despite the new trend of "looking poor" is good. lol We drive a 2004 Jeep Liberty and our "new" car is a 2010 Subaru we inherited from my hubbys parents about 4 years ago. We just try to keep them in good running order and clean inside and out. IDK what people think about that. If asked, I just say cars are not our priority, although we try to keep them running well so they are reliable and thats it. People DO understand that.

I just bought a townhouse in the "ritzy" part of an expensive East Coast city. It is, by far, the humblest/smallest house on the block, but I paid for it in cash (as a single person). Being that I am insufferably nosy, I used all kinds of online city government databases/resources to scope out my new neighbors. It was quite interesting to say the least. My neighbor two doors down owns a well-established design firm and lives in one of the bigger, fancier houses. City records show that this person, who has been living there for over 20 years, refinanced and/or HELOC'd their house multiple times, to borrow what appears to amount to well over $1 million in total. The neighbor directly next to me, in a house that is almost twice as large as mine, is a lawyer who works for the federal government and anyone could easily look up the salaries for federal government employees. This person probably earns about half of what I earn. So, yes, it doesn't take much to peek under the covers to see that the appearance of wealth is largely a mirage. Just because they live a larger life doesn't necessarily mean they are wealthier than you.

He and his partner make good money, but I was able to convince him that a brand new car driven off the lot is a used car. He is saving money to pay cash for a newer used car. I couldn't be more proud!

Getting a good used car is going to last longer than bad new car.

My advice to everyone is this : if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to make investments. Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. Thanks to larysa Caba, my portolio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.

I feel one Of the greatest challenges that we first timers face in the ma rket is that we end up losing all we have, making it difficult to find ourselves back to our feet. My biggest advice is to always seek the services of a professional just like I did when I ventured into it for the first time. Big thanks to Larysa Caba. I now make huge profits by weekly through her services while still learning to stand on my own.

I know her. she trades for everyone I have come across. I met her twice at a meeting in Germany and after her lectures from Ella I had to personally ask her to be my financial advisor. she is definitely good.

I have never seen a trader as open and transparent as Larysa Caba with her clients. The way she decides to make a profit for her clients. she allows you to express your fears and she still rests your fears and that is my respect. I don't normally comment on videos, but this word should be included. she is really cool.
