The schrader valves on the ports are also a common leak point. Those caps are part of sealing the refrigerant in!

The caps are simply a dust/foreign particle cap (for restricting debris/air/ect from entering the system WHILE being serviced). The shrader valves (numerous different designs) seals the system. Think of this as a tire shrader valves. If what ur saying is correct... The tires will lose air if the valve caps are left off or loose? tires run a very low pressure, compared to 250 psi on the high side of an a/c system on a very hot day. Wanna trust a plastic cap w a thin peice of rubber to seal that in? No and that's why a service port cap doesn't seal the system....

@@YU-ic1cw Thanks for the wall of text but I'm 609 certified, the caps are the primary seal.

@@cwheels01 no worries at all. More walls of text from me to educate maroons, I'm text and number certified. How many systems run completely normal, w no leaks, for many many years w out the DUST caps? Alot of systems. And as far as 609 goes... She's screaming w the "0"hhh face while I'm 69'n your (of legal age) daughter.

Schrader valves playing hide and seek with refrigerant? Those caps are the real MVPs! And I would have to agree - they do play a large roll in sealing the AC system

@@FlatRateMechanic if you have a "gush" or "squish" of freon when removing ur caps... Then you have a bad shrader. If you clean the service ports with soap, water and shop air... And spray soapy solution on your service ports and it bubbles.... The you have leaking shrader valves. Same as it is w tires. The exact same. Why do the shraderas leak? Interesting question one might ask. Age, millage, heat/cold cycles, and not putting the debris caps back on (introducting dirt into the shrader when the next service couplers are hooked up). I don't understand the disconnect, lack of understanding of logical and experienced information here.

For sure , they all seem like they need to be brighter, but you can feel the heat of it.

Ehhh, I don't like the new ones they have out. Picks up, and ever so brightly every bit of corrosion on all aluminum. Takes your eye away for the dye ur searching for. Just my thoughts. Example.. Look at the compressor in the video. Spots everywhere, is not dye, simply corrosion.

@FlatRateMechanic I was raised in AZ with an old 85 CJ7. It was doors off and top off with bikini top. I get these days with these modern Fiats with all the luxurys ac is needed to protect since doors off and top off isn't a city thing
