Regarding Lipsyncing: The song is originaly in German. It is called "Finsterwacht" - for their english speaking fans, they "dubbed" the video. Another fantastic video/song from them, is "Pray to the Hunter".
Saltatio Mortis is doing a very medieval style of metal. "Prey to the Hunter" or "My Mother told me" are two of their English songs which are very good. "Darkenguard" or "Finsterwacht" is their Album so they are the people in the Video. Hansi Kürsch, the lead singer of Blind Guardian is doing parts of the vocals but you don't see him. Blind Guardian are true Power Metal Legends, making music since 1984. There is a video from Wacken where they perform "The Bards Song" and "Valhalla" back to back and this is a must see, I think ^^ And welcome to the Germany Medieval Metal rabbit hole ;)
Never heard about medieval Metal? Prepare yourself for a long and epic journey. The Bands Saltatio Mortis and Feuerschwanz are your start into the world of Medieval Metal, filled with Hurdy Gurdys, Bagpipes, Violines, Harps and other traditional Instruments.
Medieval Metal seems to be an almost exclusive German thing. This video here wasn't about Lord of the Rings, there is a German pen and paper game around (with some books as well) called "Das Schwarze Auge" (The Black Eye) and this is set in this DSA universe. To celebrate their 40th birthday and Saltatio Mortis album, they collabed a bit and put the band into the DSA universe, you can play their alter egos in the game, an entire ambience music album to set the mood while playing, and they also added a book (and audio book) with the band included in that realm. If you buy the vinyl, you can get a plastic brick (kinda like Lego) Darkenguard tower as well. If you like this kind of music, other good songs from them are Loki, Prometheus, My Mother Told Me, Pray To The Hunter, Odins Raben, We Might Be Giants. If you want to dig deeper into the scene, try In Extremo (songs like Liam, Herr Mannelig, Spielmannsfluch); Feuerschwanz (with Sgfrd Dragonslayer, Das Elfte Gebot, Warriors Of The World United ... with Rohirrim, Uruk-Hai you get some LotR songs as well) just to name a few.
greetings and love from Germany....try out the founder of Medieval Metal, the german Band "In Extremo".....they have in few months their 30th years anniversery
A nice reaction! :) (but you missed the easter egg at the end :D ) A bit of background: Finsterwacht (as the original title of the song) was the first single from Saltatio Mortis' concept album Finsterwacht ("dark watch" or "Darkenguard"), an hommage to the famous German tabletop RPG Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE) for it's 40 years aniversary, and for their "Burgentour 2024" (castle tour) with many concerts at castles. The box contains the CD, a novel (one of the authors - Bernhard Hennen - is the one, who dies on the field after handing out the map), a tabletop adventure book (solo adventure, choose your own adventure style) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band, but they also mix in different music styles - the band members all play different instruments, nearly all backpipes. There are 5 singles out: Fintserwacht, "Schwarzer Strand" ("black beach"), "Feuer und Erz" ("Fire Ore" - also with the choir), "Der Himmel muss warten" ("Heaven has to wait") and "We might be giants". There are also (German) making of videos for most of the music videos. DSA/TDE might be the RPG with the longest living history worldwide. The Finsterwacht (Darkenguard) are a line of towers/beacons in the mountains of Finsterkamm, as last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs (as seen in the video) at Heldentrutz, a part of Weiden in the Middenrealm at the continent of Aventuria. Their function is to warn the people as seen in the video. Saltatio Mortis (latin for "dance of the death") is the group trying to reach this goal in the video - all 7 members are in the video. The orkensturm was an event, when the orcs attacked the Middenrealm some years ago (ingame). Rondra, who is sung about in the chant/prayer, is the goddess of honorable fight etc. The video took only 4 days of shooting at Burg Lichtenberg (Lichtenberg Castle), Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, with a lot of LARPers - which is why they have such good costumes. The choir at the beginning and end is the Prague orchestra (there is also a making of). Hansi from Blind Guardian sings most of the chorus and also the chant, sometimes alone, sometimes with Saltatio Mortis' lead singer Alea (the blonde, bearded guy - second last one who dies). And there is a director's cut with a narrator, telling the story of the video (so not an music video). But I think you got most of it :) ruclips.net/video/M5cKCLUgRAM/видео.html Aaaand there is an 1:20 h ambiance album, as accompaniment for novel and solo: ruclips.net/video/po3ZdP1az4c/видео.html
I was actually suprised how close the translated lyrics match the original's. The original songs from Saltatio Mortis (SaMo) are usually in German, sometimes Old Norse and they did quite a few covers in English, including an awsome cover of Electric Callboy's Hypa Hypa (highly recommended). Feuerschwanz (foy-air-shvantz) was mentioned in the comments already. They are a medieval metal group like SaMo (members of both bands have collaborated on various occasions) but mostly on the humorous/ light hearted side. Their guitarist Hans der Aufrechte (Hans the Upright) is a massive LotR / Fantasy fan too. The first ever song with English lyrics they've recorded was the Ed Sheeran/ The Hobbit cover "I See Fire", personally I prefer the live version feat. Angus McFife (former stage name of Thomas Winkler, now aka Angus McSix) over the original video. They also covered ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights", among others. My favourite original is "Untot im Drachenboot" (Undead on the Dragon Boat), I mean, zombie vikings sailing a Drakkar, what more could one wish for? Hans has a side project/ second band, The Dark Side Of The Moon. They released an Enya/ Lord of the Rings cover "May It Be" feat. Charlotte Wessels (ex-Delain).
Germany had a great medieval metal scene. Two good bands are Saltatio Mortis and Feuerschwanz. This song is part of a theme Album in cooperation with a roleplay game Story. Another good song and Videos from them are Pray to the hunter, My mother told me and The dragonborn comes. Feuerschwanz made also a new english Album.
Saltatio Mortis was founded in Germany in 2000 as a band that played medieval markets and street music. They still give acoustic concerts today. Over time, however, they added metal instruments. Saltatio Mortis is Latin and means something like the dance of death. This song has 15 million clicks: Saltatio Mortis - My mother told me (Official Music Video) Other well-known metal bands: ELUVEITIE - Aidus (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) FEUERSCHWANZ - Warriors Of The World United (feat Thomas Winkler, Saltatio Mortis & Melissa Bonny) Actually Celtic pop, but because sooner or later you stumble across her in metal: Patty Gurdy - I Am With You feat. Marko Hietala (Official Music Video) The most underrated for me: LYRRE - North Star (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) Blind Guardian was founded in Germany in 1984 and is a power metal band. They have experimented with different styles, including symphonic. The singers of the two bands alternate in Darkenguard: Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016
Great Reaction! All Members are in the Video. The Singers Name is ,,Alea der Bescheidene,, (Alea the Humble One), the Guy with the arrow in the Neck is ,,Luzi das L,, (Luzi the L) he is one of the Bagpipes Player, the one who dies on the tree is ,,Bruder Frank,, (Brother Frank) is the Bass Player, the Guy who sacrifices himself for his comrade is Till Promill (Till Alcohol Level) is the Guitarist, the with Bald Head is ,,El Silbador,, the Second Bagpipe Player (Funfact the Bagpipe Player is make your own instruments), the Guy with black Hair is ,, Jean Méchant,, the Drummer of the Band (and exzellent Guitar Player to), and last not least the Guy with the Long Hair is ,,Falk Irmenfried von Hasen-Mümmelstein,, (Falk Irmenfried from Bunny-Eatstone) he is the Hurdy Gurdy Player (and Bagpipes to). The Song are from the Upcoming Album ,,Finsterwacht,, comes out in May, and ist a Art of concept Album and Homage to the German Pen&Paper/Table Top Game ,,Das Schwarze Auge,, (The Black Eye). Please look the making of from the Finsterwacht Video Clip Music Video Tipps for Saltatio Mortis ,,Pray to the Hunter,, - ,,The Dragonborn Comes,, - ,,LOKI Live Version,, - ,,Löwenherz (Lionheart),, - ,,My Mother told me,, and many more
that wasn't exactly lip syncing. The original was recorded in German, this is just an english version they released later when they saw the song went pretty big world wide. This is a genre called Mittelalter Metal (Middelage Metal), other bands worth checking out in this vein is Feuerschwanz, In Extremo, Subway To Sally and dArtganan amongst others. These bands use violins, hurdy gurdies, bagpipes, flutes, penny whistles etc. This Saltatio Mortis album (Finsterwacht) comes with a book and a tabletop game complete with character sheets, lore book, dice... basically a D&D game) Blind Guardian is one of the biggest Power Metal bands out there, they provided some of those epic guitars and Hansi's voice of course.
If you liked Darkenguard you should check out the following link. Many German rock, metal and goth singers took part and produced a cover of Manowar with a fantastic video. Feuerschwanz is the group name with guests ruclips.net/video/-rKOoM7S6mw/видео.html
on a more serious note, I believe Saltatio Mortis put out a call to the German LARP community to the effect of "bring your own costume, we'll put you in the video"... I have to assume that anyone answering that call will have contributed to the makeup work

SALTATIO MORTIS is amazing. By your reaction, you will enjoy them. Yes, bagpipes, drums and so much more !
