- Did you know that SH-4d isn't a groove box but a well sounding synthesizer? Watch the video and find out how to hook it to a mighty sequencer and take advantage of its sound engine. A tutorial that goes through the nooks and crannies of MIDI connections between Roland SH-4d and Elektron Digitakt II. Enjoy, peace!
EDIT: although Digitakt is monophonic per track (not per step as my subtitle alleges) when in MIDI the track can play up to 4 note poliphony, thanks to @borgesol for pointing it out

I'm glad someone is still pumping out the SH-4D content. Underrated imho.
Totally agree, underrated, thanks for stopping by!
Although I was tempted by the digitakt, Ive been pairing the sh4d with an mpc live and its perfect. Only need the usb chord and a stereo cable to connect.
@@harleycoltman2759 MPC is a nice choice as well!
Great video!
How do you go about saving projects and keeping track of the sounds you’re using from the SH-4d?
Saving SH-4d's patch Is a pain. I'll explain it in a next video. Thank you very much for stopping by!
Interesting! I was thinking about getting a SH-4D to add some polyphonic tracks to the D2. Am I missing something? Why did you connect the MIDI Out of the SH-4D to the MIDI In of the D2, but then not use it? Or is this to use in the next video?!?
@@guyjackson1763 good question, I didn't mention it in the vid. The answer is I need that connection to let the MIDI learn work properly. Thanks for asking!
I bought the Arturia Keystep Pro to do about the same thing, only thing is there is only three tracks plus the rhythm part. But I can use another controller for a "lead" channel so I guess that works. A bit cheaper than a Digitakt too.
Absolutely, you can use any sequencer depending on your needs, thanks for stopping by!
Exactly the video for me. I am considering selling my SH4D. But yes, this workflow is pretty cool.
One thing:
You mention each track is monophonic in digitakt ii. I never tried it myself, but I'm pretty sure MIDI tracks on the unit have 4 voices!
From their site:
"
MIDI track features
4 note polyphony per step
16 × assignable CC controls
2 × assignable LFOs per track
"
@@borgesol you are right, I realized the mistake right after publishing the video, I’ll mention it in description I think, thanks for pointing it out! As for your SH-4d, many people keep considering it as a groovebox while it is not. Life changes when you realize it’s a trusty 4 track synth + rhythm. My advice: sleep on it ;-) Thanks for coming by!
