Toby Tarrant is taking on a challenge unlike any other! From Monday 7th to Friday 11th October, the Radio X man will put his mind, body and reputation through a challenge unlike any other; 56 miles on a pedalo! Going from one end of London to the other and then taking on the meandering might of the River Thames!
🔴 The Route:
• Starting at the mouth of where the River Thames meets the Grand Union Canal, he will travel up the the Grand Union Canal and then down Regents Canal.
• He’ll go through West London and Central London, passing London Zoo and going through Camden.
• He’ll go through the half a mile long Islington Tunnel; pedalling in pitch black until he reaches the other side…at which point he’ll turn round and come back the whole way he’s just been!
• Eventually he’ll end up back at the River Thames again, where he’ll pedal down to Putney Pier to complete the challenge.
🕰️ The Schedule:
• Toby must cover 12 miles a day on the pedalo. The average speed he will be going will be just over 1 mile an hour, that means it could take him up to 12 hours each day.
• He will burn the same number of calories as he would running a marathon
• He may be pedalling but unlike cycling he won’t cover the same type of distance. A cyclist could cover of 100 miles in 12 hours, Toby will only be able to do 12 miles each day.
