I would say if any one sprocket is that worn you should change them all together along with the chain. The components all wear together. The chain stretches to match the worn sprocket teeth so an old chain won't work well on a new cog and an old cog won't mesh well with a new chain either.

I love the concept of this bike. Unfortunately, Pebl has apparently become vaporware. They twitched to the 2.0 in 2020, but there's no evidence that they've shipped even one. It's very disappointing, because we need more vehicles like this in the world.

Hi I ride a motorcycle and this will apply to you re maintaining your drive train, I'm guessing that you have two sets of chains on the pebble and the rear chain is from the electric motor to the rear wheel, normally on a motorcycle you change both front and back chain wheels along with the chain at the same time replacing individual parts in the drivetrain is really a false economy the old worn parts will reduce the life of any new parts of the drivetrain ask any motorcycle mechanic, hope this helps.

That is correct, I did replace the chain, front and rear sprockets. I even had my motor cleaned. Runs like new again! I got my sprocket from RebelGears if you’re wondering.

Found your channel looking to know more about PEBL ... thanks for sharing. Subscribed. I imagine with gas prices so high and with this thing able to go 100 miles without peddling (with peddling, I imagine you could go around 130 - 150 miles). This is something that I am looking into. We often times need to commute 200 miles one way and this might just be the thing for us.

Thanks for the sub, the batter info is based on rider weight so keep that in mind. I am 230 lbs and have gotten 60-70 miles out of it. If you live in a hilly area this would take up more juice. I would not recommend this foe a 200 mile commute if you’re doing it daily. It does take 6-8 hours to charge the batteries as well. You could rig a gas motor and convert it to a hybrid if that is something you’re able to do. Though I would caution the amount of torque you put on the chain. Hope this helps!

@@jdrum3053 Doing some research on ebikes and you are on point about the 200 miles commute. The commute won't be daily though we are also looking at a sturdy electric tandem bike which can go up to 100 miles a day without peddle assist (we would still peddle) ... we will be fully loaded as well so a tandem seems like the better route for us. Neither way, we will still be keeping our keen interest on your channel because the PEBL will likely end up being our elderly parents' ride.

Have you had any luck finding a Pebl or anything like it? I can find about a dozen different brands along the same lines, but they almost all appear to be vaporware. That unfortunately seems to be the case for the Pebl now too, as they switched to exclusive manufacture of V2 in 2020, but I can't find any proof that they've shipped one yet.

    • @drivestorage1779

@@P2TE I'm with you. It's next to impossible to find one. about the only one that does okay is the Organic Transit Elf but those can not go long distance. We are now looking into recumbent trike, either 2 of them or one tandem. This is still not perfect because we can only take 2 at a time (2 people peddling) and can not take any passenger. If you found a way to totally replace cars (something that we can peddle, carry cargo and carry at least one passenger), please do share. thanks.

This is an excellent video demonstrating what happens when you don't clean and oil your chain periodically
Properly lubed chains are notoriously filthy, the lube naturally attracts dirt, and that's why chains need to be cleaned and lubed periodically.

    • @jdrum3053

I live in an area with harsh winters. There is no way to avoid sand and dirt grinding the sprocket. Which is what happened here.

@@jdrum3053it's always been a common problem for motorbikes, although belt and shaft drive have made inroads chains still reign, break out the plastic and make a full enclosure, your chain would last for years and would be an interesting project.
