26 mins in. Not shot an Air Rifle/Pistol in 20+ years but looking to buy a springer this year for that nostalgia feel. What a fantastically produced episode. Production quality/entertainment and information.... top notch. My younger brother who never gave up shooting is recommending a HW97 so that shall be my weapon of choice. fingers crossed I can actually shoot!

Smashing show, and it's nice to see air rifles being talked about. Also one of the most fun, relaxed shows I've seen in a while.

It isn't only the age of the child. I had access to guns at an early age (American). Both of my parents shot and were good shots. I was taught how to shoot at an early age (supervised) and also the safety and responsibility that went with it. I had to pass parental approval before I could own or take out my own be-be gun, graduate to a pellet rifle and eventually a .22 cartridge rifle. I grew up in the best of times with very concerned and responsible parents. And I had a great respect for and desire to gain their approval. We still have these traditional families but sadly they are not the norm they used to be. Love your shows and thanks. We share much in common.

    Hello gentleman.
That was fantastic. Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge. Absolutely packed with top information and advice. I really enjoyed it. Some people joke about dieseling/introducing oil to the pellet or barrel. I've never fancied the idea, though didn't know it was so dangerous to the health of an air rifle.

I used to set up a knife with the sharpened edge facing me at about 10 yards out and split pellets in two. I recall placing cardboard behind the knife and ending up with two half moon shaped holes behind the knife, one on each side of the blade.

Great episode. I've walked a familiar road with airguns and have settled on a FX typhoon T12 16 shot 177. 930 fps with JSB exact heavies. Wow. Won the family Christmas shoot with the old open sighted Slavia 177 631. 2 shots allowed on a beer can at 30 metres. 2 hits. I still got it baby!

I enjoyed the video very much. I’ve never seen such nostalgic spring air rifles. Awesome! I started with the springer from Gamo. It wasn’t a “whisper cat.” It was a barking kitty. I kinda’ liked the recoil. It made me feel like it was a strong .177 rifle .Great rifle. Then I wanted to feel the non-recoil and the accuracy of a PCP air rifle...LOVED IT. 🍍🍍🍍🍍🤙🏽🤙🏽

A great video,on air rifles.I started shooting with an 1.77 air pistol,My father built me a shooting range in the house, which had a long corridor leading to 3 bedrooms at the back of the house, where l could close the door and lock it,it was a great shooting range with targets..The ultimate boy hood experience, for father and son in the 1970sThen l progresed to a BSA 22 air rifle,l became a very accurate shot, when shooting rabbits, for farmers.Great sport.

I started with a .177 gat pistol , I got one of the older lads to go n the shop for me, think I was about 10 at the time. Needles to say you could not hit a barn door with them lol.
I then got a .177 Diana rifle one Christmas it was second hand but it was brilliant as we lived out in the country with loads of fields and wooded areas.
The Christmas after I got a second hand .22 Relum Tornado, It had the underlever mechanism
and it came with a scope. As I recall it was spot on, could not miss anything around the 30yd mark, and even better none of my mates wanted to shoot it because it was so heavy. I had many good years out shooting with mates. But then girls came along and well the shooting sort of stopped. lol

Back in the 70s and 80s I had an .22 Airsporter- dunno what mark it was but got it new. Nothing was safe and it supplied all the protein a growing hooligan could ever want. I had took thousands of rabbits, pigeons, and ducks, even two widgeon and a teal flying. Then the farmer decided he’d host a pheasant syndicate.... anyway, them, crows, jackdaws, every squirrel in the valley, and ‘other stuff’. If I could see it, it was dead- if it was edible, I’d eat it, in a stew, with dumplings- could-be-anything animal meat stew. For years I shot a shotgun as well but never as successfully as the BSA and of course, never as quietly- head to toe in DPM and face mask- never seen.

Here in U.S., it's Daisy or Crosman at reta I'm, unless you go Amazon. Choice is 'bleah' since the 80s. Most accurate pellet I found was 3 boxes of asemi- wadcutter head w-/cylindrical body and a shallow "cup" at base sent from a air pumped chamber. Recommended was 8 pumps. IIRC, rated to 850 fps muzzle. Pass throughs on gray squirrels @25-30 yes was often with good expansion. No one at sporting goods stores has a clue and big chain stores are a waste of time. A dearth of choice, IMO.

Diana G80 in .22 as an early teenager. First full size break barrel was an Original 45 in .177, to me it was the best most accurate springer I’ve ever owned. Now I own an Air arms S310 in .177 that has to be at least 25 years old and with a little wear likes Bisley magnums in 4.52.
I agree with Roy, the ignorance caused by lack of knowledge, give all kids a chance to learn the rules and know how at an early age.

  • @michaelb.42112
    @michaelb.42112 4 года назад +7

I agree that one should start with a springer and work their way up. Even like you said, start with iron sights to learn the fundamentals, then go to a scope. Starting a kid off on a PCP is like giving a 16 year old a new $100,000 Lexus as their first car. It just doesn't make sense.

Mark Novak has done some miraculous work in powder burners that were in a worse looking state .On his YT channel He's run through how he gets rid of rust without resorting to wire wool , wire brushes , or nasty chemicals , including Hot blueing ! , he's a master gunsmith / engineer check out his channel . It'd be a lot of work but I bet it'd be worth it in the end and just think how much that rifle would mean to You once/if You did it ! . Shoot Straight , Stay Safe & Stay Well .

Exactly right about precision=In England you can shoot Crow hooded or carrion, rook, rat, Jackdaw, Dove, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Feral pigeon, grey squirrel and rabbit but that being said I wouldn't shoot ANY, there's no need in these times but that doesn't mean you cannot enjoy some air gunning. I use a long target with pellet catcher at back with 6 rats etc that you shoot down then when you finished you can shoot the main target and the magnetic bar turns and they all pop back up again! If you must shoot quarry remember it is YOUR responsibility to make sure your Rifle is powerful and accurate enough to dispatch your quarry with one shot! I ask, would you like to spend your last month or so on earth dying of lead poisoning? NO, neither does the animal!
*Edit/Those quarry were listed on my BASC insurance at the time.

Issue of the barrels pointing towards the presenters.
Where do you have them pointing? The other way - towards the film crew? Trying to keep things simple and safe. You could make a stand to point the barrels up but where to site it so that the audience could see them? Another option is make a display board like they have in gun shops, but that takes time, money and effort but it also makes it a bit more formal and would have detracted from the ambiance of the location.
I would have preferred a speeded up 15sec clip showing the presenters checking and agreeing that the rifles were unloaded, decocked or air discharged from the pcps from a safety perspective.

Two friends of mine had sons who wanted to be schoolboy scramblers. One asked me what sort of bike should he buy his lad. A twist and go, very small capacity, ligh.t low saddle bike quoth I. The other friend was an expert enduro rider. He bought his son a fire-breathing manual g/box six speeder. A small version of his full sized enduro mount. His lad was totally intimidated, fell off several times and stalled it continually. The other lad had a whale of a time on the easy to ride twist and go and two years on bought the other lad's now abandoned bike and was very happy with it.
First gun .... a CO2. Cheap, light, no recoil. Kids will hit things. Then when they're enthusiastic and bigger built a quality springer. Nothing puts youth off quicker than struggling and not achieving. Just my thoughts.

Now live in the US. In our state an airgun is a firearm so felons can’t own one. The law says I have to be 166 medium (500 small) freedom units from a habited premises to shoot one. But as my Stoegers have integral suppressors (otherwise illegal) I can shoot quietly from the bog window. The last time a neighbour called plod on me the officer said don’t do it when the kids are on their summer hols. Even though I live next to fields I still have to be careful. Technically rabbits can only be taken in season but one year 40 strolled into the 30 degree kill zone (22 version). It is not stated whether house sparrows, an invasive species, and a real killer for native song birds, here, are protected or not but the last time I tried to control them in my garden, 105 of them loitered too long in the kill zone. Take enough of them and it can take years to get their numbers back up.

@@MKChase-uj9vx Any one of them could reach out and touch the others nose for goodness sake. Perhaps I am the self appointed covid police - sick of others breaking the rules, spreading this awful disease and ruining it for those who can follow simple guidance.

@@ShootingAndReloading Yes mate, and I can reach out over a 2 meter space too.
You can't tell what distance apart they are; nor do you know if they have taken Covid tests the day prior to the interview and remained self isolated since the point of test.
What you have done is run your mouth off without knowing the facts. You have judged all three of them and have assumed that they are all mindless idiots and you have then rebuked them on a public forum.
It's easy to finger-wag without stopping to ask/think first.
Like you pal, I follow the rules and do my bit and I agree that plenty don't. But honestly, I really dont think this lot are stupid and so I would 'ask' before I 'accused'.

@@MKChase-uj9vx You are kidding aren't you? :O There are guns on the table to give an accurate scale and the table is clearly less than 2 meters across. All three of them are within 2 metres, indoors without masks. Testing and self-isolation does not provide an exemption of the covid rules for anyone except "Film and High-end TV Drama Production" - see the Government and BFC guidance.
As a trained and certified covid officer for an organisation, I can tell you that these guys are breaking the rules and I'm calling them out on that fact and asking them not to be so silly going forward. I respect these guys and the great content they produce, but it doesn't mean that they didn't make a mistake in this instance.

You seriously need to re edit the ending, might be a funny in joke but not transferring to the viewer as such, do us all a favour in these times and scrub the ending really not a good look and perfect fodder for the people out to stop us . How did this get signed off ? You know the way a sentence like this will be misconstrued 🤦‍♂️

@Anglo Saxon Sentinel I hear you, unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who will will misconstrue this and use it as ammunition. I do understand that it was a throw away tongue in cheek comment. Unfortunately there has been a rise in incidents of idiots with airguns shooting animals that shouldn’t be shot . With the government reviewing airguns etc, I guess I’m saying we need to run a tight ship and not
give any reason to be questioned/challenged in our pursuits . Thanks for replying .

Turn the guns around! Is this why an FAC is required? Obviously common sense is not.
