Esther Winfield Anderson, known and feared as Aunt Esther, is a fictional character from the television series Sanford and Son. She was played by actress LaWanda Page, an acquaintance of series star Redd Foxx. Page was Foxx's first and only choice to play Esther.
When TV was entertaining. Redd and Esther traveled the comedy circuit back in the day.
I've seen every episode multiple times. Hell, i still watch it occasionally.

One of my favorite shows growing up. It was this, Good Times, Fantasy Island, and I went out when The Love Boat came on😂

Back before this show came about, many of the cast members made a record called Back Door Daddy. Absolutely filthy, but hilarious.
They were great friends for decades going back to the "Chitlin" Circuit. LuWanda was a very refined lady and Foxx would not do the TV Show unless the Network signed her on.
Lawanda Page and Redd Foxx grew up as kids together and were the best of friends. They both played the Chitlin Circuit together. ❤
LaWanda Page was a very funny comedienne in her own right!! She also did stand up comedy!! She was the first choice of Redd Foxx to play Aunt Ester 😊 You should look her up and react to some of her videos!! She has several on RUclips.

Oh man Fox was the best. I grew up watching this. One of my favorite shows.
Redd said they knew from the start that they could not be funny unless their characters hated one another.
You should definitely more Sanford and son but also you should check out some clips from a show from that same era called Good Times, it’s about a family living in the projects of Chicago.

Totally worth the wait! You're really missing out not knowing about Sanford and Son. One of the great comedy classics of the 70s. Actually, Redd Foxx and LaWanda Page were great friends. And wowee, did she do some blue stand-up. Absolutely hilarious! Long live Sanford and Son. RIP Foxx RIP Page.
This was part of the black after school lineup on WGN Chicago, that we could pick up on UHF, in Kansas City. To a white kid in the Suburbs, this, Good Times, The Jeffersons, and other sticom reruns, were our only exposure to black America.
His son always tried to set Fred straight when Fred got out of control!!

My favorite exchange between Fred and Esther is when they are discussing drinking and Esther says, “My Bible says, ‘Be not drunk with wine!’” and Fred replies, “What does it say about Ripple?”

I saw Redd Foxx in Las Vegas he was hilarious I laughed all through his comedy show. I use to watch this show on tv so funny,he was a character!
You gotta see the movie Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx.

Sanford and Son is great classic comedy. Fred was an equal opportunity insulter. He gave it to everyone. To answer your question from early in the video…..”Why was Fred always going in on Aunt Esther?” Fred’s dearly departed wife Elizabeth was Esther’s sister, and Esther made it known up front that she did not approve of him as a suitor, and definitely not a husband. Esther saw Fred as nothing more than a lowly junk man who was not good enough for her dear sister Elizabeth. Esther’s voicing her disapproval was immediately met with Fred’s relentless bombardment of never ending insults.

When Esters sister Elizabeth married Fred she Ester didn't want her to marry Fred because Ester thought Elizabeth was to good for him. We watched this show every week, my dad looked so much like Fred Sanford and my dad loved that.

There was a video showing Fred not liking anyone Chinese, Puerto Ricans but can't find it anymore. Aunt Esther said to Fred she has inner beauty Fred told her well you better put your liver were your face is 😅
