I'm one of these nostalgic +30 year old peope who played the original game when it was released. The Egyptians have always been my favorite pantheon and watching your video made me realize that the reason of this is because it was the one you play just after the greeks in the campaign. Realizing that this pantheon was so different and getting to learn its mechanics made me fall in love with them and with the whole game.. Now i have a 4month old that needs my attention and i cannot find the time to play retold, but whenever possible I will get this game to feel how i felt 24 years ago when i was a teen playing after school❤
In addition to each pantheon being significantly different, this remaster also added a lot of unique mechanics to distinguish each major god within the same pantheon. For example with the egyptians, empowering a monument with your Pharoah does something completely different depending on whether you're playing as Ra, Isis or Set. Can't wait to see how the two new pantheons that they're going to add in the future will play out.
IDK how you have over 300k subs and very few views... BUT that aside, im glad you enjoyed the game bro, youre very welcomed to givi it more hours, the game has a full campaing that you can try if youre not interested in multiplayer for any reason, regards.
I'm part of the old guard of RUclips, made my channel in 2006. Once upon a time I was part of a fairly large troupe of talent called the Yogscast, and that boosted my visibility. Since then I've taken a much more relaxed approach to making videos. All that to say my view numbers are down cause 18 years of people growing up means people move on.
This is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos in like three years, I’ve been subbed for awhile. RUclips did something. I’ve also been on an AoM kick with retold coming back. Anyways, nice to see you Strife.
Interestingly enough, Age of Empires 3 has a lot of AoM influence in it, especially in the original Expansion civs, and it was generally not as well received partially due to not just being AoE2 but again but also not being as distinct as AoM was. Where in AoE3 you have the European Civs (except Ottomans in Definitive) all have mostly the same unit list and playstyle, the expansions add in Native Americans who operate completely differently on a macro scale and the Asian Civs which use a new resource that's basically reskinned Favor and all of these expansion civs have unique unit lists which they don't share with any others (except the Indian navy).
It should also be mentioned how long the campaign is. You really get a lot of content for your money. The hunt for the Cyclops Gargarensis alone takes several hours.
The original AoM is one of my top 2 favorite games to replay over and over, even when every other game got boring to me. (The other was Impossible Creatures if you ever heard of it). I would love to see you do a full playthrough of the story of this game. Maybe even do some matches with some of your friends too! Thanks for doing the review!!! Love your content 💗💗💗
That's how I feel about Command and Conquer: Generals (With GenLauncher and the many mods, like Contra). It's even more asymmetrical than AoM, by a wide margin!
These are good points im new myself and having a blast trying to figure things out. I can't even imagine how crazy things are gonna get when the next two pantheons get added.
@@Justin_Shadow I think I'm more excited to see some total makeover mods, assuming they made the engine thoroughly customizable. I have played C&C Generals for 21 years for that reason. I use GenLauncher, the mod manager and it's mind blowing what the community has been able to do.
I would have loved to have this kind of information when I played the game so many years ago. And, if you haven't, I will like to recomend you to also play Rise Of Nations, then, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. A game I'm still waiting for the story to continue.
Atlanteans? I don't remember those in the original game. Have they been added for this modern update? Ooh, it's so tempting to get it just for that, as I do have fond memories of playing this game back in the day.
Evidently Atlantis was added as a pantheon via the first expansion pack. There was a second expansion too but, as I understand it, it was developed by a separate studio and universally disliked. Thus this new version just focused on the original and the first expansion.
@@willstrife That would explain it. Must not have ever played the first expansion pack, and just the base game, back in the day. So never did see Atlantis. Cheers, Strife. Mystery solved.
The original is a masterpiece and my all time favourite game. Retold seems very promising so far, actually seems more fun to play they've ironed out some of the junk whilst keeping the essence of the game.
So, does the retold game just, not have the introductory videos that explain how the different pantheons work without having to play through the campaign? XD I am so glad you enjoyed this game, though, i hope with this revival it will get more much needed attention ^.^
Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos Even after playing AoMR I still prefer the hero system that War3 had, it was much deeper and combat influencing. And, while I'm not a fan of MOBAs like League or Dota, we wouldn't have that genre of game without War3. So credit where it's due.
Welcome to the fandom! Now thaf you are here, you deserve to know -- new voice acting sux compared to the original voices and if you played it with the updated voices, you played it wrong. ... except for Arkantos because they used the same guy.
My experience with “Age of…” games are the opposite. Never like Empires and totally love this Mythology. I like the diversity, AoE is too copy and paste for me and more into quantity over speciality. The Tiberium series, WarCraft 2 & 3 and most of all the Diversity 👑 StarCraft
Since you said you mistaken aom for a aoe2 clone, I must bring up aoe4 as well if you want to check it out. A lot of people thought the same about that game but, I’d say it’s deceptively complex but the biggest asymmetry was about the economy and base building aspect. Each civ has an entirely different economy, and due to the influence system their base layout are dynamic and unique to each civ.

This is a remake using AoE3 engine. So all of the assets have to be ported, or get built up from the ground. Its not the same of a remake that still uses the same engine and tweaks the assets, essentially "updating".

Upvoted for the excitement. But no idea what you're talking about.
The myth units, god powers, and campaigns truly are what make Age of Mythology stand out from the rest. Really enjoyed this review! Thank you
