I had NEVER taken cuttings until I started watching your videos a few years ago. I do now! Always glad to see you taking cuttings - it signals it's soon spring! I'm sorry that you have had germinating issues... but glad to know it isn't just me! Even your fails are encouraging because if YOU have problems, it's easier to face our own 😉

Hi Cliff. What fantastic germination on your home saved seed . My bought begonia seed was rubbish, just 3 from one packet and 4 from another. Very disappointing. I had great germination from my sweet peppers and aubergines. I was so pleased. I had really poor germination from my Bedfordshire giant onion seed but fantastic germination from Toughball and the Zebrune shallots. Really interesting to watch how to do petunia cuttings. Thank you so much. I think I would love to hve a go at it- as you say theya re so expensive to buy and can'r be grown from seed, I don't think? fantastic vlog, Cliff. Thank you very much. Happy gardening 😃

Well done on your shallots bewoodford, lots of seeds this year are very disappointing to many growers. Bedding petunias for the boarders are easily grown from seed, the trailing type for baskets etc need to be propagated from cuttings. Take care regards Cliff.

I have always saved my seed, and this year, I was unable to get to the carrots heads for a week, while concreters were laying a path. Now I am finding carrot babies all over the place. Home grown seeds do far better as they absorb the environment they grow in, seeds grown in a foreign place dont thrive as well. May I recommend The Seed Savers Handbook by Michael and Jude Fenton, founders of the seed savers network. Everything you ever wanted to know is in there. Heritage seeds and originsl varieties are best as they haven't been tampered with. Chris in sub tropical Aust.

    Sorry about the onions 🧅
Try to let some onions go to seed or just put any shooting onions into the garden for flowering then seeds.
I did this last year with great success, but it’s a lot of work separating the seeds clean, I’m sure I have 3000+ seeds, they have taken well as we sow seed here in Sydney Australia in February. To add a friend gave me some mixed onions and shallots in flower form again good taking seeds where good germination but lots of work being in flower form.😊
That’s for showing the cutting process😊

My onions seeds never really materialised! So I ordered sets from DT Brown on the 6th March and I’m still waiting for even a despatched notification, so not sure what’s going on! No real big problem as I’ve been told not to plant until after the Spring equinox! Which I believe is the 20th of March,if you do they could go to seed if planted before that special time! So fingers crossed I’ll get them Monday or Tuesday 🤞anyway have a great week keep safe and will see you both next week! 👍👍

Hello Cliff! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Nice to see you again. You are looking good. It's been a while since I've seen any of your videos. I always learn something from your content. How long does it take for those petunia cuttings to develop a good rooting system? Is that distilled water? Why do you cut the leaves in half? Always enjoy! Have a nice day and good luck with your gardening. Love

I think I'm going to try cuttings with my petunias this year. This is the second year I've tried to grow Purple Tie Dye and had horrible germination. I doubt it's the fault of the seeds, I'm new to planting petunias and don't have great technique yet. I'm thinking that cuttings might allow me to have more than two plants without going to out to buy them.

Cliff, I have a question that perhaps you could address in a video comment sometime.
How do you stay limber and fit?
I want to spend most of the day working out in the garden at this time of year, but my body is slower to perk up and get moving well than those reluctant onions!
Even if I think I am ready for the active gardening season, I find my joints- or my back or knees- don’t think so!
I know everyone should be careful and each situation is different, but what would you recommend to condition our limbs and build basic gardening stamina ?

Hi Heartshape I have worked outdoors in the garden, although I have slowed down as I have got older 75 now. I always eat and sleep well, and garden little and often, this helps. Take care regards Cliff.
