+astorcrombus nebulus I absolutely love their studio albums, but this recording doesnt exactly inspire confidence in seeing them live. Is the lineup even the same as when they recorded Faust through Faust iv?
This clip includes original members Jean-Herve Peron and Werner Diermaier, but for a long time now Faust has been some of the original guys and some other people.
Faust is always pure magic, no matter in which line-up! (Their new album "Fresh air" is another masterpiece just BECAUSE they include changing guest musicians!")
Faust , back in the early 70's, was as important to the inventive advancement in avant-rock ( not that it so labelled at that time) as the Velvet Underground, Zappa and Capt Beefheart were in the late 60's. They flipped, together with Henry Cow, my teenage head away from 'commercial' prog rock popular in that time. Nowadays, can the same be said about, what's essentially reconstructed, Faust? Try to imagine Henry Cow reformed with it's original drummer and new, much younger musicians attempting to recapture the band's original sound. It wouldn't be Henry Cow, would it? Why? Because it was a specfic sound born out of the socia-political era of the early 70's. Just as reformed Velvets in 80s wasn't the Velvet Underground. I'd say this applies to Faust, for sure they were once sheer visionaries in post WW2 Germany, but in 2000's, are now little more than a revived legacy and no longer revolutionaries of 50 years back.
I only saw them once, way back in 1973. Henry Cow played at the same gig.
lucky bastard
Jesus Christ what a gig
if one ever has the opportunity to see Faust live, take it!!!

Honestly, I don't think they're trying to be revolutionary. I think they just want to play. I'm sorry that isn't significant enough for you to enjoy.
