I loved dancing in the late 50s and early 60s. It kept us fit, it kept us young; and you're right, our energy and stamina back then was amazing. If you wanted to dance, you knew you had to be fit to keep up.
Trust me, nobody danced like this. These are professional dancers putting on a performance for the camera. It would be like watching Fred Astair and thinking that all men danced like him.
I showed my mom this very video a few years ago… she and my dad were young back then, but dad didn’t dance - so mom would enter dance contests with dad’s brother who *did* dance - and they used to win, while my dad and my uncle’s wife cheered them on. And yes, they did all those flips and lifts !
I love to see the videos of these folks today as the elderly and can still dance. No maybe not all the throws and such but still great dancers. Sometime after this generation the majority of men decided dancing wasn't cool. Such a shame!
Can I share a story ??? When I was younger in the early 70’s … my Mom and Dad would clear out the kitchen and put tube socks on and put baby powder on the floor and tear it up like these folks … that was us Kidd’s entertainment … lol

Back in the 56 to 62 I went to hops every Sat night and when I got married in 1964my wife and I went dancing every Sat night,we danced to country and rock but we really enjoyed it,I'm +79 and can still dance but to only one song then take a hour break,when I was young I danced to every song they did that night be it fast or slow,I even tried Square Dancing for a time

I'm 27 but I've loved this kind of music for a long time and I'm in a Rockabilly band myself and play similar music. This was from a movie called either Dont Knock The Rock or Rock Around The Clock. I have both on a double feature DVD so I can't remember which one actually but you should check out the other scenes from those movies that include similar things like this!

This was before my time; however, when I was growing up it was before cell phones, flat screen TV’s, internet, etc. I remember when I was 5-7 the original Nintendo came out and we would get 1 hour to play Duck Hunt or Mario. Music wise we had an 8 track player, record player, or the radio. On the farm us kids had to entertain ourselves. I remember rotary phones as a land line and having to make long distance calls to my grandparents. Heaven forbid you messed up dialing the phone number and had to start over! 😂🤦🏼♀️ We also had a CB radio in the truck and my dad was a ham radio operator. Then dial up internet came! That connection sound is something you’d never forget 😂🤣 I did a lot of line dancing growing up. I also remember square dancing with my grandparents. They actually completed! So much fun to watch!!
What you see here is Lindy Hop in the style of the 50s, socalled LA STYLE, which Dean Collins was "the father of", and most dancers are in their 30s and are to depict teenagers (haha). They are youngsters from the swing era, late 30s and 40s. This aint fast, take a look at The African.Amaricans doing the real Lindy Hop in Hellzappoppin´ from 1941 or A Day At The Races fro 1937. Some people call this either "jive" or "rock and roll" but it is just different names for Lindy Hop. And by the way, I can dance like this video and still do at my 60 of age .
Black people created Lindy Hop. You should look up Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. It had a revival in the late 90’s and I’ve been part of the scene since then.
Great fun! I hope you'll also go back to a few songs that are older than the 50s. Here's a suggestion: "Doin' the New Lowdown" (1929) by the Lud Gluskin Orchestra. It really conveys the spirit of the Roaring Twenties, and it will make you want to dance.
Techno Music killed the good dance clubs. I lived in the Dancehalls in Houston on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights! Men could not get in if they didn’t have a button-down shirt on. If was a different time…best memories, going to see/dance at all the Dancehall’s George Strait was playing!
it was the beat too, that beat was up, not heavy rap down stuff where you just stand there and sway...this was pumping jumping music so thats what they did, also these aint McDonalds bodies, these are home cooking America-loving proud bodies, filled with innocence and fitness... no video games no giant TVs with people telling you your wrong for being happy , these are fit lean animal bodies that run, swing bats, do track and jump rope and sing a lot.

It's not that different from the jitterbug. Did that a lot when I was younger (in the 80's). Charlie Daniels' South's Gonna Do It Again and Lynard Skynard's I Know a Little are great jitterbug songs.
Fyi this was a little Richard song,and the when black people did these dances they called it jitter but, the songs back then would take a black artists record have a white artist make there verison of it to get air play,even in 🎵 race was a factor, it you notice there were no black couples in that video.
