Dude with all respect to One of the finest test captain of India (most successful in terms of results), I think it's not only his results in icc trophies (as captain primarily) but his general approach in white ball cricket which leads to his downfall. Again it's a kind of constructive criticism of Virat and not just mindless bashing of him which most of the fools do so.
Having said that, Virat the Test captain is remarkable and it's a shame that we don't have him as skipper in TEST matches for Indian team. Virat and Test cricket are like synonyms, and the flow of test cricket actually suits Virat more than anything.

One more thing is that it's not like we won series in SENA country under Virat (Only in Australia we were able to win twice, of which credit must go to Rahane and team too). In SA we lost twice of which last series loss was unacceptable as we were in a winning situation after winning the 1st test. Same with NZ in 2020 and England it was so close in 2021-22. However it's actually due to the team and aura of Virat the skipper we were considered in those series as favorite and not just a competitor.

Moreover in SA, Virat didn't play the second match. And he has won limited over series' everywhere and those were not Paytm trophies where you bully teams on your home turf. If ICC tournaments were the only criterion to judge a captain, then India have had only two successful captains in Kapil Dev and Msd. Even Greame Smith who had such a strong south African team never won a ICC trophy but he is considered as one of the finest captains ever.

Moreover, they played a test series against England just before the wtc final which helped them to get more accustomed to the conditions. The BCCI didn't even arrange a warm up match for the Indian team before the final and the players were playing IPL before that.

Cricket teams are not built in 1 day. Rahane, Virat and shastri were 1 unit. I am sure they all played their parts in the 3-4 years they were together. Cricket being captain's game, Virat will always get the more credit. Rahane did a great job in that series but it was still the same team, same character, same brand of cricket.
