Can we bring THIS type of skating back, where a skater was able to seamlessly combine the technical content with an expressive artistry that had an emotional impact that touches people? Good God how I miss Michelle and the special quality she brought to the sport of figure skating.
Machelle didnt need to win the gold to define her as a legend in the sport .her skating spoke that for her.there is absolutely no one like her then or now today
She deserved the Olympics gold more than the other skaters in her era.....she had bad lucky, she was robbed at the 98 Olympics. Her artistry and technique were better than Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes.
You know. When I watch other figure skaters perform, I get very nervous. But when Michelle Kwan skates. It gives me a sense of calm yet confidence that she’s completely in control of herself. She’s of vivid beauty, the essence of calm with pure passion beneath it all. She smiles and this gives me what I want, she’s just being herself and is not scripted like other figure skaters seem to be.
The fact that I saw this live.... Was so beautiful...I can't express the joy she inspired with her skating... Just magnificent.. Nothing before ( and I've watched skating for more than 3 decades) or since....she is the best ever!!! IMHO 😇😘😄
There was no greater artist on ice than Michelle Kwan. She truly transcended the sport. This program was proof that Michelle's skating was both magic and enchantment. No other skater could elicit deep feeling from the combination of ice and music.
This is still my favorite as it is mesmerizing. The music, the flow of the dance, Michelle's facial expression, the artistic flow of her movement going with the music, wow! It gets to your inner core and makes you emotional. Very beautiful, very touching, very Michelle Kwan. Thank you for this unforgettable performance.
Michell's spiral sequence was a perfect example of elegance in simplicity. She skated from the heart and her motto of "Work hard, be yourself and have fun" changed the way I looked at life. :)
Cast your eyes on the ocean... Cast your soul to the sea... When the dark night seems endless, please remember me... This is probably my favorite song by Loreena McKennitt.... Although I love most of her songs...
It is beautiful in every way. I would watch Michelle again and again because there is no other skater like her,. She is so fluid of movement and in synch with the music
Ladies of 2021 this is what we call skating all wrapped up in 1. Today's skating they emphasized to much on the quads an triple axles an not what skating is supposed to be
This is absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. Can we make this the choreography standard? Current programs are so poorly constructed and have almost no relationship to the music (and the music is pretty off too, especially now that vocal music is allowed and has been a real game changer for the level of awful choices).
She’s simply the best skater of any generation. No one has ever combined the technical skill with the ease of artistry. Spins today look horrific, all for some arbitrary points. I miss the days of an elegant sit spin or a strong-edged spiral. Or skaters who don’t lean into their jumps, with their backs curved. Skating today has become sloppy and uninteresting. Michelle is the epitome of grace, elegance, and technical brilliance.
+Jose Hill How can an alleged "legend" fail to win the biggest prize in all of figure skating, the Olympic Gold Medal? Well, Janet Lynn is considered a legend based on her beautiful skating technique. However, Kwan will always be remembered for her failure to win the Olympics when she was favored to win. It's really sad and ironic that she failed to reach the pinnacle of figure skating by failing to win the Olympic gold medal. Poor Michelle, and to be beaten by that little pixie with horrible skating technique and very small pixie jumps.
+iluvfirenze89 You're (rightfully) calling Janet Lynn a legend, even though she also totally failed to win Olympic gold, losing to that lumbering free skater Trixie Schuba? But you're not affording your same logic to Michelle Kwan, whose longevity surpasses even Ms. Lynn? Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense.
There are so many skaters even today that hope to be able to skate like Michelle.... not sure anyone wants to skate like Tara ...maybe the way she rotates so fast in the air, but that's about it
John Michael To your point the great Yu Na Kim has spoken openly about how big of an influence Michelle was to her skating. That is how you leave a legacy.

Troy Turner for once, I agree with you!
Can we please? Lol
She did 3 triple jumps (toe, Lutz, salchow) and double axle but did them with ease and artistry. The movements matched the music she was skating to.
Seriously. Who cares about the jumps? I just want the beautiful skating
There truly will never be any skater that can match her grace on ice.
She includes a difficult triple lutz in an exhibition performance. Awesome.

How I miss Michelle and the magical moments she gave us!
Say what you will: current figure skaters can't do what she did when she competed. Blended the technical skills with honest and truthful artistry
So elegant, so easy, so light.
I could watch her for hours. True poetry in motion, unlike today where it’s all about jumps, jumps and more jumps.
The fact that I saw this live.... Was so beautiful...I can't express the joy she inspired with her skating... Just magnificent.. Nothing before ( and I've watched skating for more than 3 decades) or since....she is the best ever!!! IMHO 😇😘😄
So beautiful, it's like she's literally flying on her blades, not skating!
This would win the gold medal the next 4 Olympic games in a row easily.
Absolutely beautiful! She's the LEGEND indeed!
After all these years Kwan is still the skater that moves me! I will always associate Dante's Prayer with her.

Dorothy Hamill could and still can.
Truth nailed 🎯.

LEGEND FOREVER = MICHELLE KWAN. PROOF THAT NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING IS EVER IMPOSSIBLE
Michell's spiral sequence was a perfect example of elegance in simplicity. She skated from the heart and her motto of "Work hard, be yourself and have fun" changed the way I looked at life. :)
So beautiful. I got to see her perform this at Champions on Ice 1998. I miss that tour. Michelle was always the lead skater!
Her artistry is insane! Love 💕
One of my favorite exhibition piece ever!
3 favorites are this one..fields of gold... and... east of eden
full of emotion and passion.....but still joy and peace.
Cast your eyes on the ocean... Cast your soul to the sea... When the dark night seems endless, please remember me... This is probably my favorite song by Loreena McKennitt.... Although I love most of her songs...
I will never forget this exquisite performance and music. Sublime
She is just perfection! Definitely the reason I love skating ❤️
Same! Without a doubt!!
absolute perfection. I miss her competing so much!
She becomes the music.
It is beautiful in every way. I would watch Michelle again and again because there is no other skater like her,. She is so fluid of movement and in synch with the music
Wow. That was one of her best performances. My favorite was East of Eden.
Atleta perfeita+esporte perfeito+música perfeita= divino.
concordo
Wowww... so elegant..!!!
Amazing 💖 Simply perfection on ice 💗
Brilliant
Beautiful Job,M
Ladies of 2021 this is what we call skating all wrapped up in 1. Today's skating they emphasized to much on the quads an triple axles an not what skating is supposed to be
They forgot to announce that she's a two time national &World Champion back when this was taking place!
maravillosa..emociona..
Wow she is something special

100% true

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tara may have won the gold, but she did not become the legend. Michelle became the legend. This program is proof why.

+iluvfirenze89 Who won the Olympic Gold Medal in the Salt Lake pairs event?

This program perfectly complements Loreena McKennet’s artistry
3:17 It is actually MORE than a simple inside spiral, Uncle Dick: it is a COE spiral. ;)
Now skatng has evolved to..skate skate,,,,jump...fast fast skate, jump...way to much emphasis on the quads
I miss this type of beautiful skating. So much concentration now on the jumps ruined it all.
I only wish the commentators could have controlled themselves and just shut up during the performance!\
Kwan > Medvedeva + Zagitova
Sorry but the other two don’t compare!
Sorry no comparison
They really messed up this song editing it. Still, Michelle did a wonderful job!
I just heard the full version… its so beautiful 🥲
