JK7 Velsheda (named for William Stephens daughters, Velma, Sheila and Daphne) is an original 129 foot 143 ton steel 1933 racing yacht built by Camper and Nicholsons though she now has a 173' carbon mast and carbon rigging. J5 Ranger is a replica of the 1937 Ranger, she was built in 2003 of aluminium and has a 177' carbon mast. Both masts by Southern Spars of New Zealand.
Beautiful wave making showing how the waterline lengthens with healing The hull design is probably the only shape that the economical speed is equal to the length of the vessel.
@SailGroove894 "Ate" as in "hate"? The Johnstone J series of boats (22,24, 80, 105, 111, 120, etc.) have nothing to do with these J Class boats, it's just a coincidence in name.

Dude, it's VELsheda, not VALsheda.
Ate these j boats such as j105
I knew Ranger would win, she's very fast downwind.
this is not a race it is a dual.
"are" is a better guess, it makes more sense in the sentence and look how close r and t are on a qwerty ketboard
If Audrey Hepburn and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco were Yachts they would be J-Class Sail Yachts PERIOD.
Πολυ καλο
Absolutely right - beautiful lines and classic good looks!
No no no! J's are far too fragile to ever compare to those two legends
Princess Grace and Reinier owned Moonbeam IV, a William Fife yacht.
Anyone own a J Class in Australia 🇦🇺?

they are pretty nice boats, but they don't have a gaff rig....
