- t2p was up in Newport, RI for the J Class Regatta where Velsheda and Ranger went head to head match race style. 130 feet, 200 tons worth of boat times 2 with a history to match them.
We produced 30 minute shows for TV, but we aired a 15 minute version for www.t2p.tv. Check out all of the shows there, this is day 2 of the regatta.
Pretty much the most gorgeous sailboats ever built.
JK7 Velsheda (named for William Stephens daughters, Velma, Sheila and Daphne) is an original 129 foot 143 ton steel 1933 racing yacht built by Camper and Nicholsons though she now has a 173' carbon mast and carbon rigging. J5 Ranger is a replica of the 1937 Ranger, she was built in 2003 of aluminium and has a 177' carbon mast. Both masts by Southern Spars of New Zealand.
The royalty of yacht racing !
Beautiful wave making showing how the waterline lengthens with healing The hull design is probably the only shape that the economical speed is equal to the length of the vessel.
those boats are so bloody elegant.
2 of the finest j class about
Dude, it's VELsheda, not VALsheda.
I knew Ranger would win, she's very fast downwind.
Ate these j boats such as j105
If Audrey Hepburn and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco were Yachts they would be J-Class Sail Yachts PERIOD.
Πολυ καλο
Absolutely right - beautiful lines and classic good looks!
No no no! J's are far too fragile to ever compare to those two legends
Princess Grace and Reinier owned Moonbeam IV, a William Fife yacht.
"are" is a better guess, it makes more sense in the sentence and look how close r and t are on a qwerty ketboard
this is not a race it is a dual.
@SailGroove894 "Ate" as in "hate"? The Johnstone J series of boats (22,24, 80, 105, 111, 120, etc.) have nothing to do with these J Class boats, it's just a coincidence in name.
there were only 10 of those made
they are pretty nice boats, but they don't have a gaff rig....
@ 0:37 Maltese Falcon
Anyone own a J Class in Australia 🇦🇺?
Rich people...
..Typical contemporary mediocrity......all the crew and Tech......why not race
schooner rig......know your stuff.....thx
