Helicopter Tour of Nome, Alaska

Earlier this month, I took a R44 helicopter tour with Bering Air. They operate domestic scheduled passenger and charter airline services, as well as air ambulance and helicopter services such as flightseeing tours. Since we were in Nome during the Iditarod race, we flew over a few mushers, and even got the chance to land at historic Safety Roadhouse for a drink.

I will never complain about the cold again. These people are tough people surviving out there. Looks an amazing place to visit.
This brought back fond memories. I covered 5 Iditarod's in the early 1970's when I was News Director at KNOM. We didn't have the luxury of helicopters back then--only unheated Cessnas and a lot of footwork at -20 and -40F with bulky gear. (no cellphones then).

Interesting place Hope you enjoyed your Helicopter ride I'am not a major fan of the R22 & R44 models I worked for a Helicopter company in Papua New Guinea which back in the early 1990s operated 35 Hughes 500D/E models but these days operates a mix fleet of Airbus & Bell models.
Nice helicopter ride…you can’t see anything but snow.

love that you included the pre flight briefing. behring air are great guys, same for pathfinder. both serve nome and the area. kinda glad evergreen isnt the monopoly anymore.. ugh so crude
Bering had helos at the same time Evergreen was in operation in Nome, as did Olson if I’m not mistaken. Evergreen never had the monopoly on helos, it’s just they only operated rotors and didn’t have any fixed wing aircraft.
@@MizzyPhotoGirl me not being local and being in that industry 20 years ago, evergreen was literally all we could work with.... monopoly or not, when it came to outside contracts, they really had it monopolized.
