Honestly that is not bad at all. Obviously some of the intonation was a little funky but they don’t look for absolute perfection. I’m assuming that’s the technical excerpt so they’ll probably be looking for good general sound and rhythm/intonation. I’m from PA and we have lyrical excerpts for PMEA as well (which I think you posted in your other video) where musicality is more prevalent. You have to go in confident and play with a confident sound even if you feel super unprepared haha. You should be proud of yourself for making it this far and even taking the leap to audition for all-states!! Most kids at my school don’t go past regions. For audition day, I always like to run through excerpts slowly a couple times before I audition to adjust intonation and then I do one run through at “concert” tempo. To warm up, I always do a really slow chromatic scale (I play in triplets at at around quarter note = 60) just to get my fingers moving and help my ear. If you go in looking it as an opportunity to play for the panel and have fun with it rather than as a measure of your self-worth and playing ability, it will be much more enjoyable. I get really bad anxiety when it comes to playing for others or even taking tests at school so much so that I get sick. In case you feel similarly, I’ve had some teachers give me some words of advice that I try to keep in mind. A lot of things in life are scary-but it doesn’t mean they’re dangerous or even a bad thing. Say, someone jumps out from behind a corner and scares you. It’s not dangerous and you’ll laugh it off after. Same thing goes for tests and auditions. It might feel really uncomfortable and scary, but it isn’t dangerous. That kind of helped put it into perspective for me in case you’re worried about it. Best of luck and keep us posted on how it goes!! I apologize for such a long and scattered message 😅

Maybe it’s because I’m a double bass player and don’t really understand the levels of difficulty for violin but this seems harder than what Illinois did for state, we played Les Preludes, and this seems like another level of hard. Good luck on getting in, this is good playing
Its interesting how you guys in Virginia prepare actual exerpts, here in NY they make us prepare a whole movement of a solo. I played the Popper Hungarian Rhapsody (cello) and got in, but i wonder if i am able to get in for other states if they just required an exerpt. Im assuming that it must be hard to differentiate players from just a few exerpts
@realdanielshock I guess that's true, but I'm also assuming everyone plays those exerpts to near perfection. That's why I thought it would be hard.
